On April 27, 2014 at 3:53 p.m., the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) was dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 3015 Hopyard Road, Pleasanton in Zorn’s Restaurant. The first LPFD fire engine arrived on scene at 3:57p.m. and found smoke throughout the restaurant and from the roof. The restaurant was found to be vacant after a check for possible victims. The restaurant was closed at the time of the incident. A fire was located in the kitchen area and extinguished within about 5 minutes of the LPFD’s arrival. A total of 18 firefighters, 4 Engines, 1 Truck and 1 Battalion Chief were on scene of this incident. The Pleasanton Police Department and Paramedics Plus ambulance were also at the scene. No injuries were reported.
It is estimated that this fire and smoke caused $45,000 in damage to the restaurant. The smoke and fire did not spread to adjacent businesses. A joint investigation into the cause and origin of this fire was initiated by the Pleasanton Police Department and the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. The origin of the fire is believed to be liquids located on an unattended stovetop. The specific cause of the fire remains under investigation. It is unknown when the restaurant will reopen.
Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Truck 93 is a late 1990s-early 2000s era E-One rear-mount ladder truck.
Leicestershire, April, 1898, Report number C.-9060. 35 dead.
Early in the morning of Tuesday the 19th of April 1898 a fire broke out in the main intake of the Old Main or Upper Seam of the Whitwick Colliery whereby thirty-five persons lost their lives, of these persons the bodies of only nine have been recovered. The bodies of the remaining victims are still in the mine.
A fall had occurred about half way between No. 94 and No. 95 road ends, and at both roads there had been gob-fires. It was also in a part where all the coal had been worked away, and the strata above was more or less broken. The fires at the bottom of old No. 94 road had been quiescent for a long time, but the fires at old No. 95 and the immediate vicinity had given considerable trouble, and were a few yards beyond the place where the heavy fall occurred.
It will thus be seen that the part where the fire took place is about half-way between the junction of the roads where gob-fires existed, and had been dammed off.
I am of opinion that the heat from these gob-fires would materially assist in developing a gob-fire in any strata favourably situated, or inclined to develop spontaneous combustion, and that the area of their thermal activity would be in proportion to the broken nature of the strata, or the conductivity of the rocks forming such strata.
Report by Arthur H. Stokes, H.M. Inspector of Mines.

Report on the scientific results of the voyage of H.M.S. Challenger during the years 1873-76 under the command of Captain George S. Nares ...
Edinburgh :Neill,1880-1895.
Hey. It's me...McKenzie. You'll never guess what happened. I was sitting there, bored as ever, with Drew and Heather when all of a sudden....Henry's dad came and took me (and some food) away! We got in the car and guess who was there. Right! Henry. I got to ride in the front seat (note: she didn't "get" to ride in the front seat...that's where she ended up after attempting to sit in my lap) and we went....you guessed it again....TO THE RIVER! We had a blast! We saw people and dogs and sand and water and birds and even a coyote. Then we went to Henry's house for dinner and belly rubs....what else is there? Can't wait to see what's next.

About Beauty and the Beast
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

U.P. Breaking News: K. I. Sawyer Latest KC-135 Emergency Landing/Raising Safety Concerns
The following exclusive information was not reported yet by Upper Peninsula TV stations and other media.
Many safety questions remain and a military plane is officially grounded after an emergency in the skies over Marquette County, Michigan on Tues. July 8, 2014
The emergency landing of a KC-135 refueling tanker is the latest in a series of similar hydraulic incidents involving the aging fleet of Milwaukee's 128th Air Refueling Wing, Upper Peninsula Breaking News has learned.
Veteran Investigative Reporter Greg Peterson has the story:
upperpeninsulabreakingnews.wordpress.com/2014/07/09/u-p-b...
-----
Essentially a flying gas station – this Air National Guard KC-135 is grounded – following an emergency that has happened at least 5 times in the past two years to KC 135 refueling tankers from the 128th Air Refueling Wing in Milwaukee.
That's right – at least 5 times in the past two years – a KC-135 from the 128th has developed hydraulic problems resulting in emergency landings at airports around the Midwest.
The tankers are all about 50 years old.
In fact in June 2013, a reporter for Milwaukee Television station WISN TV-12 investigated a rash of KC-135 emergency landings after hydraulic warning.
Upper Peninsula Breaking News called the 128th's public affairs office to verify this important safety problem.
With overcast skies, the three-member crew of this KC-135 declared a hydraulic emergency:
Chief Don Hutchens, Forsyth Township Volunteer Fire Department:
Emergency officials from across Marquette County responded to the plane's call for help – fearing it might crash while landing – which would have been catastrophic.
The KC -135 was among several planes from the 128th Refueling Wing that have been practicing touch and goes on K.I. Sawyer's long runways.
Now the Marquette County Airport, the once vibrant K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base was a Strategic Air Command base – constantly on alert - with bomber crews ready to fly in moments.
This reporter has had the pleasure of riding on two KC-135 Refueling Tankers – as show in this photo when I worked at WLUC TV-6 in Marquette.
We refueled F-16 Jets over Lake Huron.
Then this reporter became one of only a handful of civilians to ride aboard a B-52 Bomber – this while I did features stories for the Mining Journal newspaper.
I was given this official coin of the Sawyer bomber wing and a patch – after as 12-hour flight that included Fourth of July Parades and an airshow in Grand Rapids.
This reporter hopes the officials at Milwaukee's 128th Air Refueling Wing get to the bottom of this hydraulic issues before there is a tragedy – as the large number of emergencies on this flying gas station is scary to all involved.

Military plane makes emergency landing in Indiana
www.wisn.com/news/south-east-wisconsin/milwaukee/Military...
A plane from Milwaukee's 128th Air Refueling Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard is grounded and undergoing repairs after an in-flight emergency Tuesday.
For the fourth time in two months a KC-135 from Milwaukee makes an emergency landing, this time in Indiana.
The flight crew lost control of the hydraulic system and made an emergency landing in Indiana.
It's the fourth in-flight emergency in recent weeks involving four KC-135 refueling tankers.
Each of the planes is about 50 years old, which has some wondering if the aging aircraft are as safe as they should be.

A Special Version
of
The KOM League

Over the course of sending Flash Reports I have learned that including more than one photo, or graphic, is a huge waste of the reader’s time and my energy.
In the previous report it was stated that Bill Clark is usually the only person who admits to reading each one. I heard from Hank Chott of Glendora, California that he reads every report and enjoys them all even though he was a self-described “insignificant statistic” as a member of the 1950 Iola Indians. One thing he did was pitch in a game at Carthage which many people would like to have claimed. He got out of Carthage after one game compared to Yours truly attempting the same tactic and never getting completely extricated from the old hometown until 1968.
Another reader, Jerry Hogan, from Fayetteville, Arkansas, admitted reading about 80% of each report. Me thinks it is about time to cut the verbiage and go to pictures and then, only on demand and sparingly.
With not much about which to write, I decided to share a document that has stared at me for over a decade. It has occupied a special place in my KOM League collection. If I revealed that the legendary Babe Ruth had any connection with a former KOM league player/manager I’d probably be ignored just like most of my reports.
Al Reitz was affiliated with five KOM league teams from 1946-52 and as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics, in April, pitched to Babe Ruth in at home run hitting contest in Spring training of 1925. Reitz told me the story 70 years after that event occurred and he was as thrilled in retelling the story as the day he grooved 24 pitches to the great Bambino. He sent me a cassette tape of his memory of that day which is now 93 years distant.
For only those who request it, a complete copy of material I have put together on an event that
occurred 98 years ago, will be shared. The year, of course, was 1920. Ruth who had just turned 26, the previous month, applied for an insurance policy with the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co., of Hartford Conn. At the time he was listed as 6’ 2” and weighing 190 pounds.
In the collection is a photo of Babe Ruth, a copy of the application for health and disability insurance, the signed contract between the Hartford and Ruth, the insurance brokers terms for payment and the insurance card issued as a result of that policy.
If nothing else, you’ll learn that the subject of health insurance coverage is nothing new, even nearly a century ago.
For those wishing to view the material just described, I’ll be taking names for five days. Those responding will get the items within a week. This offer WILL NOT be repeated. Send your response to my primary e-mail address of j03.john@gmail.com Any other mail sent to the secondary address most likely will fall through the cracks.
