This scene replicates the suicide of the members of Tanomo Saigo's (1830-1903) family. Tanomo Saigo was one of the chief retainers of Aizu Clan, and was engaged in the Boshin War (Meiji Revolution) at the time of the incident. The women of the family were afraid that a concern for their well-being would cause unnecessary grief and trouble for Tanomo Saigo , and decided to take their own lives. In this scene, a girl, whose courage faltered after she wounded herself, asks one of the first enemy soldiers to break into the compound, to finish her off. Moved by her plight, the soldier complied with her request.
I am not sure why, but the screen in the background is flipped upside down.

BOXPOP® REPLICATES HARRY’S HOUSE

situation
You may be familiar with Harry Styles. Former boyband member turned soloist debonair popstar. Performer with a magnetizing presence on and off the stage. Conductor of electrifying concerts to sold-out arenas. That Harry Styles. Having just released a highly acclaimed studio album, and currently in the midst of a whirlwind world tour, it could be said that Mr. Styles is enjoying a moment of unprecedented global popularity. One prominent stop of this continent-trekking tour was the Moody Center in Austin, TX this October. A town renowned for its own eclectic fair, this sold out arena was packed to the brim with the Styles faithful. Often camping out the day (or days) before gates opened, once admitted into the arena, there were hours of downtime for fans before Harry would take the stage. Hoping to occupy the time and attentions of devoted concertgoers, Hannah Baker of the Moody Center concocted an interactive set piece in miniature. Looking to recreate scenes from Style’s music videos, the Moody Center entrusted BoxPop® and the Britten Events team to replicate Harry’s House into an experiential event that would promote fan engagement and let them envision themselves as extras on a Harry Styles music video production.

The Britten team started with a 20-foot single container as the template for this set design. A drop stage door was cut and installed along the container length, allowing the full interior to be viewed and utilized. Next a finished partition was framed through the center of the container, creating two juxtaposed sets that could be viewed simultaneously. On the right was a finished bedroom scene, complete with brooding navy floral wallpaper, a clean white coiffured accent wall, complete with installed flooring. This bedroom set was later staged with furnishings to round out the retro inspired, cozy aesthetic interior. The left side was a true spectacle. Drawing direct inspiration from the Harry’s House album cover, the team recreated an inverted living room scene. Complete with a fully carpeted ceiling with lounge chair, midcentury modern couch, and end table with lamp mounted upside down, the result was an upending experience that paid close homage to the album artwork. Accented with a groovy, amorphous meld of vibrant sherbet oranges, sweet reds, and bubblegum pinks, the exterior of the container was befitting of the 70’s inspired, forward blended palette and aesthetic of Harry Styles himself.

The result was a widely popular space for Styles fans to photograph and experience. Inserting themselves into either half of the presentation, concertgoers could envision one another as cast members within the highly curated world of a Harry’s House reality. Perfect for selfie’s along with actual interaction with the set pieces, it was an immediate draw for fans who sought to deepen their concert experience and was a magnetizing focal point for entrants looking for something to do before the show. A substantial addition for the Moody Center venue, this curated portable set piece was a highly successful element of fan engagement, connecting individuals with the mood and vision of Style’s new album, and helped to enrich the concertgoing experience.

The seemingly laughable title somewhat obscures what is now thought of as one of the better sci-fi films of the late 1950s, and a worthy variation on "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," with its theme of aliens replicating the appearance of humans.

synopsis
It has now become a film-review clich to preface a write-up for I Married a Monster From Outer Space with the cautionary "Don't be misled by the title." The fact remains, however, that this one of the better and more intelligent horror outings of the late 1950s. The "I" of the title is Marge Farrell (Gloria Talbott), who can't help noticing that her husband Bill (Tom Tryon) has been acting very strangely since their dark-and-stormy wedding night. For one thing, the formerly demonstrative Bill behaves listlessly, as though possessing no emotions whatsoever; for another, though he spends much of his free time at Grady's Bar, Bill never takes a drink (now that is weird!) It isn't long before Marge discovers that Bill, along with several of his male friends, have been taken over by aliens from the Andromeda Nebula, who have arrived on earth to replenish their species. There's only one flaw to this plan: the aliens are unable to procreate! Once the authorities are alerted, a posse of non-possessed men attack the alien spaceship, paving the way for the not-altogether-predictable finale.

This smart, tidy little sci-fi effort is deserving of its cult reputation. I Married A Monster From Outer Space works primarily because it never tries to outdo the outrageous hard-sell of its title. Instead, Louis Vitte's screenplay builds the story up in a subtle manner, allowing the troubled marriage of its two leads to drive the story and building its alien-invasion plot around the edges of that main narrative hook. This approach also allows the filmmakers to offer some interesting thematic commentary: the film could be seen as a metaphor for how marriage can "change" a relationship. The film also benefits from strong, adult performances by a pair of leads who take the offbeat story seriously and play it straight: Tom Tryon never overplays the alien mannerisms of his character and withholds emotion to show the character's disconnection while Gloria Talbott makes a strong, resourceful heroine who is easy to root for. Finally, Gene Fowler's artful direction seals the film's appeal: he doles out shock effects where need be (mainly during the finale) but mostly concentrates on creating an atmosphere of paranoia through subtle performances and shadowy photography. All in all, I Married A Monster From Outer Space is a fine addition to the canon of 1950's sci-fi and well worth the time for cult film fans interested in this genre.

From time to time the Council receives enquiries about the general condition of Wolsey's Gate and about the possibility of moving it from its present location to some other part of Ipswich.
The Council's position is as follows:
Wolsey's Gate is not deteriorating any more than any other building in Ipswich (or elsewhere) that is approximately 478 years old. Indeed, all-in-all it is not in bad condition by comparison with, for example, the 19th Century when it was seriously choked with ivy.
The eroded condition of the coat of arms has been a problem for over 150 years and there is no accurate indication of exactly what it depicted even from engravings. Replacement or replication would now be pure conjecture but the remaining scant evidence of the original design is the ongoing subject of consolidation by a specialist.
The Gate is the subject of an annual detailed inspection and minor repair. The last major repairs, with English Heritage advice, were in 1996. Further consolidation of the stone panel and other associated works were undertaken by an experienced specialist conservator in late 2007/early 2008.
Although it is part of the Council's corporate estate, direct responsibility for future management of the Gate was made to the Council's Conservation Service in January 2006. Structural monitoring of the monument is currently being undertaken by English Heritage on our behalf.
Wolsey's Gate is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and the designation extends not just to the gateway but also to the return wall to St Peter's Churchyard connecting it to the church vestry.
The basis of all conservation thinking since the middle of the 19th Century, and particularly the passing of the Ancient Monuments Act 1882, is that monuments should be conserved in situ related to their historical context - in this case the below ground remains of Wolsey's College to the rear.
Any works to a Scheduled Ancient Monument require Scheduled Monuments Consent from the Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, following advice from English Heritage and not from the Council.
Moving the Gateway - and the wall attached - notwithstanding the likely physical damage, would not be approved. Nor would the moving of any other standing Ancient Monument.
There is ongoing communication with the owner of the adjacent former Burtons site (including 1-5 College Street) about the setting of the monument, as they own the land to the immediate rear and this will continue. Any proposals for the development of that site will be the subject to the usual planning procedures.
