He is not really sure where he is headed; but neither was she when she was created.

She has been around a long time though; and he only gets half an hour on Earth.

The Michigan Rennaissance Festival is almost here. This annual event runs this year from August 16 - September 19 in Holly, about an hour from Detroit. Come and check out a joust, the legendary Dead Bob, or eat a huge Turkey Leg ( among other activities ). It'll take you an entire day to get through everything here. Granada's impressive cathedral was pointedly constructed on a site previously occupied by the city's main mosque (no doubt razing a breathtakingly beautiful building to the ground) after the area was ceded by the Nasrid dynasty in 1492. It took 181 years to build and is an awe inspiring piece of Spanish Rennaissance, a curious merging of classical and gothic with towering white columns, a blingtastic organ and enough gold leaf to cover a small country. I spent a lot of the time looking up.

Fern is a very warm and charming faire who entertains us each year with your pleasant smile and great movements of her walk, hand jestures and her way of answering your question even though Fern doesn't speak much......

The statues of the muses of Glory, Poetry and Music, atop the cornice of L'viv's Opera House, in western Ukraine.

Properly the Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the opera house is named after a famous early 20th century sopranoist born in the city. Prior to 2000 it was the Ivan Franko Lviv State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, named for famous 19th century socialist and nationalist local poet Ivan Franko. The opera house's Viennese neo-Rennaissance style was designed by Polish architect Zygmunt Gorgolewski, and built between 1897-1900, when L'viv was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, utilising the first reinforced concrete foundation in all Europe.

Archaeological findings have shown that Sárospatak area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The town itself became a royal property in the 11th century. The construction of the castle began in the 16th century by Péter Perényi, who acquired the area past the battle of Mohács. Besides the walls, the five-storey keep of the castle was also built then by Italian master builder Alessandro Vedani in late-Rennaissance style.

Past the extinction of Perényis, the castle changed hands more times until 1616, when it passed into the hands of György Rákóczi (Prince of Transylvania from 1630) by marriage (with Zsuzsanna Lorántffy). In the 1640s, considerable extension works began and the famous Lorántffy wing and loggia were constructed. The castle served as the headquarters for kuruc activities during Rákóczi’s War of Independence and the Diet of 1708 was held here too. After the war the castle was confiscated by the Habsburgs and acquired by Prince Trautson and then Prince Bretzenheim. Constructions in this period added Baroque, Romantic and eclectic elements to the design. After WW2 the castle was nationalized.

The Sistine Chapel is a chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope, in Vatican City. Originally known as the Cappella Magna.

2015 Texas Renaissance Festival

The castle's story dates back to a fortress, Krogen (lit. "the Hook"), built in the 1420s by the Danish king, Eric of Pomerania. The king insisted on the payment of sound dues by all ships wishing to enter or leave the Baltic Sea passing through the Sound; to help enforce his demands, he built a powerful fortress at the narrowest point in the Sound. At the time, the Kingdom of Denmark extended across both sides of the Sound, and on the eastern shore the Helsingborg Castle had been in existence since the Middle Ages. With the two castles and guard ships it was possible to control all navigation through the Sound.

The castle was built on Ørekrog, a sandy tongue of land stretching into the sea from the coast of Zealand towards the coast of Scania. The castle consisted of a square curtain wall with a number of stone buildings inside. The stone building in the northeastern corner contained the king's residence. The building in the southwestern corner contained a large arched banquet hall. The building in the southeastern corner possibly served as the chapel. Large portions of the walls of Krogen are contained within the present-day Kronborg Castle.

King Christian III had the corners of the curtain wall supplemented with bastions in 1558-59.

View on black please!

I do love a good interior and church interiors are some of the best; they're just so full of detail! As much as I hate religion, they certainly know to produce great buildings! Saying that, you can also get some great interior shots in museums too!

This is St. Stephen's Basilica or Szent István-bazilika in Hungarian. It's one of the tallest buildings in Budapest (alongside the wonderful parliament building) and possibly the most ornate. You're allowed to take photos inside, although there isn't many good places to mount a GorillaPod. If you push past loads of people, you can happily attach your tripod to the top of the collection box. Not that I did this of course...

I wasn't going to put this photo up today, but it's Emyli's birthday today and she likes these type of shots, so this is dedicated to her. Happy birthday!

This is a detailed shot, so it looks much better large, on black. (Press L)

Edit: I've just realised that you can have testimonials on Flickr! I have none :(

No group graphics or large images in comments please.

Seen in Vienna's Albertina Gallery at the exhibition "Leonardo, Dürer, Masters of the Rennaissance - Drawings on Coloured Ground".

("Leonardo, Dürer - Meisterzeichnungen der Renaissance auf farbigem Grund")

I visited the exhibition twice, once with the Pentax K-1 and the second time with the K-3iii Monochrome. The drawings on display were all examples of a technique known as "chiaroscuro", which simply means "light/dark". Amazing effects of light and shade are achieved using only white and black on a coloured middle ground. I thought it might be a good challenge to take photos with the monochrome camera, slightly adjusting the contrast curve to bring up the effect. I hope you like the result! I think it reproduces the three-dimensional quality achieved by these great masters.

This scale model outside of Kronborg Castle allows visitors to see the entirety of the place they are visiting. The castle is the main draw but the fortress was used by the Danish Army until 1923 and the garrison and ramparts are worth a look.

The castle's story dates back to a stronghold, Krogen, built by King Eric VII in the 1420s. Along with the fortress Kärnan, Helsingborg on the opposite coast of Øresund, it controlled the entranceway to the Baltic Sea. From 1574 to 1585 King Frederick II had the medieval fortress radically transformed into a magnificent Renaissance castle. The main architects were the Flemings Hans Hendrik van Paesschen and Anthonis van Obbergen, whereas the sculptural work was coordinated by Gert van Groningen. In 1629 a fire destroyed much of the castle, but King Christian IV had it rebuilt. The castle also has a church within its walls. In 1658 Kronborg was besieged and captured by the Swedes who took many of its valuable art treasures as war booty. In 1785 the castle ceased to be a royal residence and was converted into barracks for the army. The army left the castle in 1923, and after a thorough renovation it was opened to the public.
