I'm building a motor drive cable for my pocket wizard to fire a EOS Rebel (XT(i)). The idea is to set it up high with a wide angle lens over a strobist event and key the camera to a shooting station's PW channel to automatically record setup shots for each shot.
Here is the superclamp + ball head setup being tested in my shop. This is gonna open up some cool possibilities at the next garage shoot.
(Side note: Can you believe this much noise is from shooting at ISO400? I'll never buy another camera with a Sony sensor in it again).
Not exactly the prettiest remote, but I think I really dig using my iPad and/or iPhone as a remote control for my TV.

Times Herald-Record Staff Photographer Chet Gordon's remote Nikon D-1X camera with a 10.5mm f/2.8AF fisheye lens prior to the United States Military Academy's 2010 Graduation and Commissioning Ceremony at Michie Stadium in West Point, NY on Saturday, May 22, 2010. This camera is installed primarily to capture a low-angle view of the cadet's traditional "hat toss." President Barack Obama delivered the commencement address as 1,002 cadets received their diplomas and were commissioned as 2nd. Lieutenants in the U.S. Army. Times Herald Record/CHET GORDON
Once you top that little saddle on the Nature Trail, things open up. The valley isn't as tight on the side of the saddle, and the mountain is tapering off back into the sediment-filled valley. That's still Phoenix neighborhoods off in the distance, but it seems a lot more isolated over here.
Outside-inside view of Remote test session, using Internet, done on Wednesday 8 feb 2017. Test was begun in late afternoon since the Moon (11 day-old) was visible in the sky. Conditions were bad, however, with wind and considerable atmospheric turbulence. After two hours, the sky suddendly became overcast, putting an end to the session.

Here a picture of our 'seaside garden', 6 km from the sea! I've blogged the design decisions and details here: bellgirl.com.au/2010/08/remote-seaside-gardening.html
Sunny got me the Xbox 360 Logitech Harmony remote for Christmas, it's awesome, and replaces all the other remotes shown.
This is Parkamoor Farmhouse on a remote fell overlooking Coniston Water. I believe it has no mains electricity or water or mobile phone reception but it has a wood burning stove and paraffin lamps and you can rent it for £400 a week. Nice if you want to get away from it all. :-) www.parkamoor.org/p/Welcome.html
Notice the skull on the doorway :-)
This is the front of the cannibalized VCR front-end, I used it as the button/switch were already soldered on it, but you can use anything for that.
======
This is a homemade EOS remote control, to take shot from a distance and use it as bulb.
It's based on this schema and should have the similar functionality as a RS-60E3.
The cost is virtually null except for the connectors (see the note on the photos) as you need a 2.5mm connector which is not very standard.
The material used is:
- 1 switch and 2 buttons all already soldered on the front of a cannibalized VCR (power switch+two control buttons) FREE
- 1 3.5mm jack from an old pair of earphones FREE
- 1 old Mini-Disk box
- 1 2.5mm male to 3.5mm female jack connector, ~3.5£/6.5$
- optionally a 3.5 jack extension (2m) lead, ~2£
The connectors where found at a normal "media" shop that sells CDs, earphones, etc...
Tiny house deep in the northern reserve - probably something to do with an old cocoa plantation? (doesn't look like the grand dwellings built by more recent incomers)
ps challenge friday group - I'm catching up!!! - but thanks for having excellent themes while I was away, even without knowing I could find photos to match them :)
Remote battery switches. No more bending over or crawling into the bilge to shut off your battery switch.
