I remember

there was a time

When I used to sing for you.

I would like to thank Unspashed for part of the background.

This is a tiny corner of Melba's front garden, which is right next to mine. She went to visit her family a couple of weeks, but was never to return home as she passed away unexpectedly last Monday.

After all our rain, the sun shone brightly and briefly today. I went out with my camera and saw the light falling on all her carefully tended plants and casting shadows from the trees. I felt a sudden pang of sadness that she would not enjoy this ever again. Having lived here for 60 years with her devoted husband who died exactly a year ago, perhaps her enjoyment of living here actually ended then. The end of an era in our little enclave of 6 houses.

Memorial Day weekend isn't for vacations, BBQs, or for getting that great deal on a new mattress. Hell, it isn't even about appreciating our active duty military.

Memorial Day is about remembering those who have died in the service of the United States armed forces.

So while you're out enjoying your 3-day weekend, crack open a beer and have a drink on behalf of those who no longer can.

19 years ago today, the Twin Towers in New York City were brought down by terrorists who flew planes into the towers. Those of us who stopped their lives and their hearts that morning will never forget the sheer horror and disbelief we felt collectively as a nation..

I hope that remembering this dreadful moment in time will help to bring us all back together again in these troubling times we find ourselves in now.

Bless us all, Lord, bless us all.

Do you remember me...

and how you used to look at me?

Things I didn't have to say...

to make you fall in love!

'Cause I remember you!

Αnd how I used to look at you!

Remember that what you have is unique because it's your own special way of looking at the world.

We will remember them,

The ones who stood tall,

Who fought for their country,

The ones who were willing to fall.

We will remember them,

The ones whose lives had shined,

Who were mighty and bold,

May the world be defined.

Look at all our nations,

Oh how far we've come,

As every person will stay in our hearts,

We shall stand one by one.

Shelly-Ann admiring the world where she was born. And yes, I remember those beautiful years in the countryside, living among my animals, where the world felt slower, kinder, and full of whispered stories.

I recently visited my old house and met the three cats who stayed there with the new owners. They’re doing very well!

Thank you very much for your comments and faves, regretfully, I am finding it increasingly difficult to reply to your comments, because of my very limited time on the internet, due to constant power interruptions in South Africa. I do read and appreciate every one of them, however! Thanks again!!

Now that the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder, I would like to use my Monday flower greeting to return to the beginning of the year.

Let us remember when the first flowers appeared in the brown of last year's autumn leaves, when the birds singing greeted us again in the morning and we finally felt the warming sun on our skin.

At this point, this little beauty here, the forget-me-not, was also in full bloom.

And so I wish you many beautiful memories for this week (and not just for this week) and the constant certainty that such moments will keep coming. Especially in times when it seems a little darker and colder.

In Alesund, Norway, a small northern coastal town, they remember their history by placing huge images of their past in various parts of downtown, evoking a sense of connection to what has been rather than only focusing on the future. Fishing has always been an important part of their history and to see a visual reminder at every turn within the town is most satisfying.

Continuing the aerial series of Tasrail, to-day we see train 2-32 climbing steadily up towards Rhyndaston with TR units TR12 + TR17. The line here crosses Rhyndaston Road as the line heads uphill towards the tunnel. The journey has never been easier with the new Caterpillar units seemingly doing it effortlessly without all the huff, puff and noise of the older units that previously plied this line. This is good news for Tasrail but sad for us that remember the diversity and excitement of the older units.
