The work of constructing a new chapel Margao madel at a cost of around Rs 20 lakhs has been awarded to Race Constructions and is expected to be completed within six months. The new chapel will have 45 sq mts of built up area as against the existing 22 sq mts and will be relocated opposite the existing site on municipal land that has been filled up.

The Mormon Island Relocation Cemetery was constructed in 1954 by the Army Corps of Engineers. It was created in order to used as a new site for several cemeteries that would be submerged by Folsom Lake, newly created by the construction of Folsom Dam on the American River. Remains from the Gold Rush mining camps of Mormon Island, Salmon Falls, Negro Hill, Condemned Bar, Carrollton Bar, McDowell’s Hill, Natural Dam and Doton’s Bar cemeteries, plus five individual graves were relocated to relocation cemetery after its construction. In 1996, remains from the Prairie City Cemetery were interred after being discovered during the construction of the Prairie City Road on-ramp to Highway 50.
