This year the Swallowtail population is looking bad, so far no finds in the relevant places where they used to be found.
An archive picture from last year has to serve there;-)

One of the most relevant gems in the Spa of Archena is the famous Neo Nazari style dome located in Hotel Termas.
This is the image of the arabesque style dome taken from the ground floor, just beside our room.
We enjoyed so much contemplating it everyday while we stayed lodged at the hotel.

Una de las joyas arquitectónicas más relevantes del Balneario de Archena es la famosa cúpula de estilo neonazarí situada en el Hotel Termas.
Esta es la imagen de la cúpula de estilo arabesco desde la planta baja, justo al lado de nuestra habitación.
Disfrutamos mucho contemplándola todos los días mientras estuvimos alojados en el hotel.

How did people of the previous generations lived ? Yeah, we can learn more by digging up history, from reading literature works, from old photos, videos or even relevant paintings etc. Suffice it to say, no clear picture will emerge without seeing their settings for ourselves. This is the setting for a well known scholar/high ranking official ( Viceroy of Guangdong and Guangxi ) who was "granted" a white silk scarf -- something similar to what the Japanese economy got from Plaza Accord -- by Empress Dowager, to hang himself with for having favoured the revolutionaries. One of his sons was a painter, and a well known connoisseur who helped a lot to bring Qi Baishi -- the equivalent of Van Gogh or else Monet in China -- into public eyes. His youngest son was a great historian hailed by many as the greatest ever who also carried the nickname of "the professor of the professors" in the then Beijing University, for so many professors flocked into his classes there. This was also home of a great novelist who wrote some well known short stories which had been filmed by many producers and he also authored a book on Chinese costumes of the earlier Dynasties. This also happened to be the home of a well known modern artist/painter, who won a fortune by his works probably also through a little bit of luck, as once proclaimed by himself ... and I'll endeavour to post one or two of his works in Flickr, even though I understand that few Flickr enthusiasts really care much about paintings....

You may recall from a few posts back my excitement at finding a large colony of this migratory bird (Lathams Snipe) close to home. The numbers encountered make this a significant site under our Federal Conservation Act.
My timing couldn't have been better.
I am pleased to say that after notifying the Biodiversity team at our local Council, they were as excited as I was. This area is partially protected due to the presence of a threatened grass species, otherwise it would already have been developed. However, some major developments of the site are about to occur. Literally!
Within a few days of me notifying them, emergency meetings have been called with all the relevant partners and they are all very supportive of promoting and protected this bird and its habitat.
From one little observation by an overexcited birdie nerd who was at the right place at the right time, hopefully the next time this colony of migratory birds make the exhausting journey to fly 20,000 km from Siberia through Japan and back to this tiny little wetland, it will still be here for them.
I don't know about you but I was in need of a good news story. Hope this one makes you feel good too.

The SS Okanagan stern wheeler was owned and operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The vessel was constructed in 1906 to take passengers to and from the communities up and down the 80 mile long Okanagan Lake.the communities. Today it is a museum and event venue.
