This juvenile black-tip reef shark, Carcharhinus melanopterus, is a 54 cm long male.
He was caught in the lagoon of Fakahina, East Tuamotu, French Polynesia.
A DNA sample was taken on him for a study on Fakahina sharks, and he was realeased very healthy as all others sharks.

With a few days of heavy rain, I spent a bit of TIME under my umbrella. I noticed the raindrops falling off the ends of the ribs, thinking it would require good TIMING to get a photo of one JUST as it released.
With modern technology including the fast 8 frames per second I can get from my Canon 7D, getting the perfect moment was just a matter of taking many many shots, and then picking out the one I liked best.
The difficult part was the overall darkness outside. It required a high shutter speed to "freeze" the drop and high ISO because of the darkness. I got a lot of blurry shots, and a lot of annoyingly grainy shots before settling on something in the middle.

We said farewell to the Japanese cargo ship HTV-6 last Friday. Yours truly was at the controls, with Shane Kimbrough monitoring. After 46 days attached to the Space Station we will miss the extra module and space. It is funny to think that the spacecraft is flying alone in space now, before it meets a fiery end as it burns up harmlessly in the atmosphere. Even during its last days it will deliver important information: JAXA is testing a tether they dubbed the Kounotori Integrated Tether Experiment (KITE) – a 700 m long electro-dynamic tether that will drag the spacecraft towards Earth. We need to test this type of technology to ensure future satellites don't stay in orbit around Earth forever but will fall back and disintegrate after they have finished their useful life.
Nous avons donc fait nos adieux au véhicule ravitailleur japonais HTV-6 vendredi dernier. J’étais cette fois-ci aux commandes, épaulé par Shane. Le vaisseau cargo, en plus d’apporter du ravitaillement, a fait office de module supplémentaire pendant les 46 jours qu’il est resté attaché à la Station spatiale. Et maintenant, il flotte seul dans l’espace, avant de brûler sans risque à la rentrée atmosphérique. Une fin... flamboyante ;)
Même en ce moment, l’HTV a un rôle à jouer : l’Agence spatiale japonaise, JAXA, profite du départ de son vaisseau cargo pour tester le « KITE » (Kounotori Integrated Tether Experiment), une attache électrodynamique expérimentale de 700 mètres de long. Son but est de tirer le véhicule en direction de la Terre plus rapidement et avec plus de précision. Ce genre de technologie devrait nous être très utile pour les satellites du futur : on pourra s’assurer qu’ils ne restent pas en orbite autour de la planète une fois devenus obsolètes, mais qu’ils se désintégreront plutôt à la rentrée dans l’atmosphère en retombant sur Terre.

A recent bout with bad health, resulting in multiple surgeries for a retinal detachment in both eyes, prompted me to get back into music production. Although I am happy to be still able to continue to practice my photography profession, I realized that the time has come in my life to release the plethora of unreleased sound materials existing in my archives, as well as re-mixing and composing new soundscapes and soundtracks.
Going back to creating music is for me yet another healing tools, trying to cope with my health problems and an increasingly alien sociopolitical landscape. I hope that translates to the listener and be of (some) comfort to them as well.
I’ve been haunting the places where the growing tides surged in behind the spit, where the sand and Wiyot shells were held together with Tasmanian roots, where the Monterey brethren sent seedroots into CaCO₃ and fought the Alaskan gusts and saline urges.

This didn't really turn out the way I envisioned. You win some, you lose some. The theme for the Flickr Birthday Challenge for today is Inspiration. Inspiration is a funny thing. Sometimes it comes so easy. You wake up and the world is covered with frost. Or you see a group of bees pollinating beautiful flowers. On other days it is much harder. When it is grey and gloomy outside and there seems to be nothing motivating you. Most of my inspiration for my more creatively edited shots comes from human nature and a lot of times human suffering or inequality. When trying to come up with inspiration for an image that's generally where my mind goes for better or worse. This was my attempt at visualizing that. Not sure it works but I guess it's too late now. :)

How many times have you been at a party where you only know one or two people? It can be terrifying or it can be exciting.

I am so grateful that I get the opportunity to hang out with other people's dogs. That seems like a weird gratitude choice for today, maybe… but I am such, such, such a dog person. And we do not have a dog (let alone two) due to various reasons. So, it's very special to me to get to spend time with their dogs, and then share in their little families of love. Woot!

Hi, I made a thing!
2 Colors of it are $L50 in store this weekend too for Wanderlust Weekend. (a pink one and a red one)
I haven't made shoes for a while. I think they turned out OK. They are unrigged so they can be pushed around to fit other feet, but I put in Maitreya and Slink pre-made sizes.
If any of my bloggers are reading this... I'm still having issues with Blogotex, and I'm working on another solution. Hopefully I'll be sending you a notecard about it soon!
