Evening traffic at the Antonio Bonet roundabout in my neighborhood, Valdebebas, Madrid, Spain.

There are numerous roundabouts in this area, all named, as a way of regulating traffic at street intersections, although many drivers do not respect or do not know how to drive when they reach a roundabout.

I hope you like this photo.

I wish you a good day or a good night, wherever you are. My best wishes to my friends in the United States on their Thanksgiving.

This is the first time I've ever seen this condition in our deer population on the Olympic Peninsula. Not pretty but interesting just the same. We don't always see beauty out in the field.

Wildlife and Fish Health - Fibromatosis in Deer

Questions and Answers about Fibromatosis

What is fibromatosis?

Fibromatosis is a common skin disease of white-tailed deer, mule deer, black-tailed deer, and other Cervidae in North America. There is evidence that the skin tumors, called fibromas, are caused by a papilloma virus.

What are the signs of fibromatosis in deer?

Large, warty growths, or fibromas appear as firm, round, nodular, hairless, pigmented skin abnormalities adhered to or incorporated within the skin of deer. The masses occur most frequently around the eyes, mouth, face, neck, and forelimbs, and may appear as a single mass or numerous growths. The tumors are typically small (less than 5 inches across), dark brown or black in color, and their surface may be abraded or bleeding and in some case infected. Most often, fibromas occur in deer less than 2 years of age, with a higher incidence of disease in bucks.

How is the disease transmitted?

The manner in which the disease is transmitted is not entirely known. However, it has been suggested that transmission occurs through direct contact between broken skin and infectious material, either from a fibroma of an another infected deer or vegetation that has come in contact with an infected deer. Since more bucks are seen with the condition, rutting or fighting among males during the rut or rubbing of antlers to shed velvet may play a role in disease spread. Biting insects may also be involved in disease transmission.

What is the significance of fibromas to deer?

Deer with fibromatosis are generally unaffected by the condition, unless the location or size of the tumor impedes normal movement, feeding, or vision. The tumors may be surgically removed, although treatment is not typically practical, and is usually unnecessary, as the disease is self-limiting and fibromas tend to regress over time.

Do deer that get the disease die?

Typically, deer are exposed to the virus at a young age and develop fibromas. If they are exposed again as an adult, they are less likely to get the disease a second time due to acquired immunity to the disease. Fibromas are not a significant cause of deer deaths.

Can humans become infected with deer fibromas?

No, the virus is species specific and deer fibromas are not known to occur in or affect humans. As fibromas only involve the skin and not underlying muscles or other structures, an infected animal’s meat is safe to eat. However, if you have any question regarding the health of the animal or meat safety contact your local ODFW field office or wildlife health hotline

There are two Bellmouth Spillways (plugholes)These are design to regulate the water levels

This image is the result of seven 100mm vertical images edited and cropped. The South Yuba River is one of my favorite places in the whole world for hiking, biking and photography. In the 11 years I've been visiting the canyon I've only seen the river flowing with the velocity and rage the rivers capable of. The calm still water you see here should be white water rapids and a good 3'-4' higher on the boulders. The water flow is regulated by the dam at Lake Spaulding and even in wet years it seems they only let out enough water out to keep the river flowing.

A bill to regulate rent at about 110,000 subdivided flats in Hong Kong, home to some of the city’s poorest residents, will be presented to the legislature next week and is expected to take effect as early as the end of the year.

The Landlord and Tenant (Consolidation) (Amendment) Bill 2021 is a government measure designed to tackle the problem of unaffordable housing that has long plagued the city. A severe shortage of public housing has meant that tens of thousands of low-income families have no choice but to live in shoebox dwellings in rundown buildings.

They are often overcharged by landlords and can be evicted easily when the market level of rent goes up and they cannot afford the increase.

The alcohol licensing laws of the United Kingdom regulate the sale and consumption of alcohol.

Some long-standing traditions (indeed, legal requirements) have disappeared as a consequence. First, "permitted hours" gained a new meaning. Until the 2003 Act came into force on 24 November 2005, permitted hours were a standard legal constraint: for example, serving alcohol after 23:00 meant that a licensing extension had to exist—either permanent (as for nightclubs, for example), or by special application from the licensee concerned for a particular occasion. There was also a customary general derogation permitting a modest extension on particular dates, such as New Year's Eve and some other Public Holidays. Licensees did not need to apply for these and could take advantage of them if they wished without any formality. Now, permitted hours are theoretically continuous: it is possible for a premises licence to be held which allows 24-hour opening, and indeed some do exist.

Most licensed premises do not go this far, but many applied for licences in 2005 that allowed them longer opening hours than before. However, as in the past, there is no obligation for licensees to use all the time permitted to them. Premises that still close (for commercial reasons) at 23:00 during most of the week may well have licences permitting them to remain open longer, perhaps for several hours. Staying open after 23:00 on the spur of the moment is therefore legal at such premises if the licensee decides to do so. The service of alcohol must still cease when the licence closing time arrives. Only the holder of the comparatively rare true "24-hour" licence has complete freedom in this respect.

Florida’s most prolific iguana is the most substantial of all invasive species. The Green Iguana grows over 5 feet and can weigh up to 15 pounds. These iguanas are shades of emerald green with large spikes running down their back and tail. Green Iguanas also have a large dewlap (or neck flap) for regulating their body temperature. They present their dewlap to potential mates during courtship.

The Green Iguana’s tail is its primary weapon. It’s capable of whipping other animals when threatened. When ensnared, an iguana can detach its tail and grow another one. Green Iguanas also have another unique defense system, a third eye. On the forehead, they have a primitive pineal gland. The gland is not capable of forming images like the other two. They use their parietal eye to sense changes in light and track predators above.

Green Iguanas are herbivores. However, their diet in Florida does not provide enough water to regulate their body temperatures. As a result, the iguanas tear through plant matter, leaving little behind.

Green Iguanas are prolific breeders. Females are capable of laying 45 eggs in every clutch. With few natural predators, most of their young reach reproductive maturity.

Green Iguanas are native to Central and South America. The iguanas first established populations in the Florida Keys. It’s thought the green iguanas first hitched a ride on South American fruit ships. In the following years, careless pet owners released the iguanas into the wild.

One way for Great Blue Herons to regulate body temperature is through a process called thermoregulation. Tidal flows into the Waterbird Refuge at Bicentennial Park are carefully regulated to provide optimum levels for its feathered and finned inhabitants, and to minimise thegeneration of wetland odours.

Bicentennial Park is a 40-hectare of parkland located 16 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of City of Parramatta. Bicentennial Park is situated on the shores Homebush Bay and is a part of the Sydney Olympic Park in New South Wales, Australia. The Park is a natural heritage site featuring an important wetland ecosystem and parklands. It offers visitors recreation, nature-based tours, environmental education and outdoor event experiences. The park has picnic areas, playgrounds, pathways and cycle ways, access to the wetlands, salt marsh and bird hides. It also features Lake Belvedere, Peace Monument, Treillage Tower, Sundial, 'Cyrus the Great' statue, the Silent Hearts Memorial Garden and water features. Powells Creek runs through the eastern side of the park. The Homebush Bay wetland is occupied by animals that thrive in the salt water wetlands. Bicentennial Park was created by the state and federal governments during the 1980s, to celebrate Australia's Bicentenary in 1988. The project involved recycling 47.4 hectares of former rubbish dump into a regional recreation area and the conservation of 53 hectares of a wetland ecosystem on the Parramatta River. The park was officially opened on 1 January 1988. R_29708

Interesting FACT about Sedona. " The legal basis for regulating the private property in the US was originally based on the "COMMON LAW CONCEPT of NUISANCE" ……….

LONG STORY.

SHORT STORY : All OUTSIDE lights are to be shielded from interference of night sky. " Amount of Light-Spectrum of Light Sources...etc" so as not to interfere with NATURAL..SKY..NIGHT..BEAUTY OF.

We wondered why all outside lights HAD to be turned off by 10PM at RV Park we stayed at. Come to find out all of Sedona has this level of illumination in their ordinance. ( The street lights are non-evasive for night sky )

How special is that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea), is a wading bird of the heron family Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is resident in the milder south and west, but many birds retreat in winter from the ice in colder regions. It has become common in summer even inside the Arctic circle along the Norwegian coast.
