Amazing what you can find when walking with your camera and looking down.

Caught just as the droplet hit the water.

Subjects who wear eye glasses can offer a unique difficulty for photographers. First, there’s the dilemma of whether they should wear them or not (will they not feel & look like themselves without them? Are they hiding fabulous eyes behind those glasses?) And then there’s the problem of glare and reflection. An attentive photographer will pay attention to this factor, but it does cause issues and where a photo might be perfectly composed and lit, but a little glare in the glasses can throw the whole thing off.

All those tips for creating great catchlights? Forget ‘em. Reflectors aimed at the eyes, facing a light source…all these techniques will only show up as mirror-like reflections in the glass.

When using artificial or studio lighting, have your subject turn away from the lights just a tad and pay attention to what’s going on in the glasses.

As if pop-up flash wasn’t already a no-no, it’s even more so when your subject is wearing glasses

A rather strange suggestion is to have your subjects tilt the glasses downward only 1/2 an inch (just push them up from where they rest on their ears). This tiny bit of angle and make a huge difference. In the same manner, you can also experiment with having them tilt their head or the angle from which you’re shooting.

I'm not that used to black and white photography but this one was well suited for it! It has a high luminance range and superb contrast. This could make one nice place for an Halloween party. You like it? I'd be happy that you share it!

Reflections on the River Teifi, Cardigan with a cormorant fishing

Along the shores of the Onwatin River. Many houses along the water.

From the photoshoot at Yankee Air Museum, many thanks to my sister for letting me borrow her camera since mine is broken and off for repair! Liz is laying on the wing of the plane and is reflecting of the side. This is a vintage WW2 Bomber plane.

Taken from Gallery 8 at St Ives Tate. You can look out from one side of the circular gallery to the other and see amazing reflections in the highly reflective glass they have used for the concave windows of the gallery over the entrance. Porthmeor Beach is reflected in the glass. It would be interesting to go back and see the reflections in all the different conditions - tide in or out, bright sunshine or heavy skies, a deserted beach or covered in holiday makers.

Reflections at the Clinton Marina, Connecticut

This is the reflection of one of the statues on Crosby Beach.

This isn't the usual type of image you’d expect from me, is it? I had some time to kill in downtown Halifax and originally planned to shoot the Town Clock with some long exposures. I’ve shot it before, but with the cold and windy, I wanted to give it another go and explore different compositions. The problem? Not a single cloud in the sky! So, I decided to take a walk in the Public Gardens, hoping to photograph the ducks. Most of them were out of the water, still "sleeping," though I did get a shot that I'll likely share soon.

As I wandered around, I noticed a small house and bridge. I knew it was there, but what really caught my eye was the mirror-like reflection in the still water. While composing the shot, a duck came towards me, probably looking for food. I hoped it would swim into the open area of the frame, but that was asking too much. With no food, it retreated back to shore, out of view.

This was a 20-second exposure, as I wanted to smooth out the small ripples caused by what I assume were frogs. I also had to time the shot between people taking selfies on the bridge. An elderly gentleman even approached me to compliment my composition, which was a nice moment.

Let me know what you think!

Reflections of Saltaire mill in the Leeds Liverpool canal

One of the most photographed locations on the south island in New Zealand. Lake Hayes just outside of Queenstown is a beautiful scenic lake that has a walk all the way around it. Taken during autumn in April with the autumnal colours coming out and the stillness of the lake creating a beautiful mirror image of the hills around it.

Just a fun shot of reflections on the upper pond in the back yard. The color is a reflection of a colored wind mill.
