As far as I can discover, this beautiful cactus from Tucumán, Argentina, was first described by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber (1830-1903). Weber was a French military doctor and botanist who traveled widely with the French army: Algeria, China and Cochin China. But for our purposes it is enough to mention that he took part in the French expeditionary force that established the short-lived Second Mexican Empire (1864-1867), well-known for the execution after only a short reign of Emperor Maximilian I. In Mexico, Weber became very interested in cacti and was soon an expert in their description. Back in France in 1896 he published this Echinopsis which hails from Tucumán; he named it for the German-turned-Argentinian Friedrich Schickendantz (1837-1896), a foremost naturalist and scientist. Schickendantz put much energy into connecting modern ideas of physics and chemistry to the development of early Argentinian industry, also in Tucumám where he worked in sugar refinement. He died in Buenos Aires.

Our Echinopsis is white as sugar gets... and just take a look at those stamens and the pistil!

Spirit of Haida Gwaii is the largest, most complex, and best known of Bill Reid’s sculptures. The work depicts a canoe filled with thirteen entangled ethereal beings, the majority of whom are non-human and of mythical Haida origin: the Raven (Xhuuya), the Wolf, the Eagle, the Frog, the Bear Family, the Beaver, the Dogfish Mother, and the Mouse Woman (Quaganjaat). Three humans are aboard: the Bear Mother, the Chief (who sits at the centre holding his staff), and the “Ancient Reluctant Conscript,” as Reid has described him, who paddles humbly alongside all the others.1 The sculpture has been seen as both a portrait of Reid himself and as a depiction of the condition of life on Earth as seen through his eyes. Of it he wrote, “The boat goes on, forever anchored in the same place.”2 The cast of characters depicted in the Spirit of Haida Gwaii provides an index to themes embodied by Reid throughout his lifetime, and several that appear in his works.

Spirit of Haida Gwaii is a keystone of Reid’s legacy and came to be featured as a permanent installation in three major settings. It was originally commissioned for the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., but Reid famously halted work on the project in 1987 in a gesture of solidarity with the Haida people, who were blockading the British Columbia government’s logging practices on Athlii Gwaii (Lyell Island). The 1986 clay maquette was enlarged to a full-scale clay model in 1988, and the following year it was cast in plaster for further refinement. By 1991 the Tallix Foundry in New York State had poured the first bronze casting, which was given a black patina and installed in the Embassy’s courtyard with the title Spirit of Haida Gwaii: The Black Canoe. In 1993 a second casting was poured, this time finished with a green patina. This piece was installed in 1996 in the Vancouver International Airport with the title Spirit of Haida Gwaii: The Jade Canoe. The original plaster is on permanent display at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec. In tribute to Reid, Spirit of Haida Gwaii, along with The Raven and the First Men, 1980, Mythic Messengers, 1984, and the serigraph Xhuwaji—Haida Grizzly Bear, 1990, were featured on the Canadian twenty-dollar bill from 2004 to 2012.

Transforming a deer photograph into a Van Gogh-style masterpiece using AI is a fascinating blend of nature and artistry! Here’s how you can do it:

Capturing the Deer

- Lighting & Composition: Opt for soft, natural light, preferably during golden hour, to highlight the texture of the deer’s fur.

- Background: Consider framing the deer against a dramatic landscape—perhaps misty woods or a sunlit field—to enrich the final aesthetic.

- Movement vs. Stillness: A standing, contemplative deer might suit a portrait effect, while one mid-stride could add dynamic energy.

AI Style Transfer

To achieve a Van Gogh effect:

- Use Style Transfer Tools: Platforms like Deep Dream Generator, Runway ML, or Prisma allow AI to overlay famous artistic styles.

- Adjust Brushstroke Effects: Van Gogh’s style is known for bold brushwork and swirling patterns, so tweak settings to exaggerate movement in the image.

- Color Enhancements: Amplify the saturation and introduce warm yellows, deep blues, and contrasting greens—hallmarks of his palette.

- Texture Refinement: Some tools let you emphasize impasto-like effects, mimicking his thick paint application.

Would you like advice on the best software for achieving this transformation? Or perhaps some tips on fine-tuning the AI-generated output?

It's just before the sunset and the yellow field of rapeseed flowers surround and hugs gently your legs. In the distance, the rays of the sun begin to paint the sky with its broad brush strokes. The wind draws the clouds like an accordion in its widest position. The yellow field begins to change color and the time for capturing the moment will soon be present. To capture and forever imprint the memory of the gold of nature that we humans learned to refinement. It's the field of agriculture that helps us to live. This is the nature's gold.

Following Job’s Example and Submitting to God’s Arrangements

After praying, these words from God came to mind: “While undergoing trials, it’s normal for people to be weak, or have negativity within them, or to lack clarity on God’s will or their path for practice. But in any case, you must have faith in God’s work, and not deny God, like Job. Although Job was weak and cursed the day of his own birth, he did not deny that all things in human life were bestowed by Jehovah, and that Jehovah is also the One to take it all away. No matter how he was tested, he maintained this belief. … When Job reached this point, God appeared to him and spoke to him. That is, it is only from within your faith that you will be able to see God, and when you have faith God will perfect you. Without faith, He cannot do this. God will bestow upon you whatever you hope to gain. If you don’t have faith, you cannot be perfected and you will be unable to see God’s actions, much less see His omnipotence. When you have faith and you can touch His actions in your practical experience, God will appear to you, and He will enlighten and guide you from within. Without that faith, God will be unable to do that. If you have lost hope in God, how will you be able to experience His work? Therefore, only when you have faith and you do not harbor doubts toward God, only when you have true faith in Him no matter what He does will He enlighten and illuminate you in your experiences, and only then will you be able to see His actions. These things are all achieved through faith, and faith is only achieved through refinement—faith cannot develop in the absence of refinement” (“Those Who Are to Be Made Perfect Must Undergo Refinement”).

Located in the altitude fields of the "Serra da Bocaina", the "Casa de Pedra", as it is currently known, was built by Dr. Lassance, a resident doctor from Rio de Janeiro, in the beginning of the 20th century and its apogee in 1914.

Once ready and decorated with the richest imported refinements, the house was not much to the liking of his wife who was not interested in the patrimony.

The abandonment and vandalism were destroying the beautiful building that is now in ruins, and today is only a reminder of the golden days of "Bocaina".

Villa Carlotta is a palace and museum in Italy, located on the shores of Lake Como in Tremezzo.

Giambattista Sommariva, politician and patron of the arts, bought it in 1801 and transformed it into a true museum, making extensive renovations in the gardens.

The Villa received its name in homage to the other owner Charlotte, Duchess of Saxe-Meiningen (daughter of Princess Marianna of Prussia), who received the palace in 1843 from her mother as a marriage gift.

Although the palace is beautiful and contains some furniture and works of art on two floors open to the public, it is really the garden that attracts attention.

As I said earlier the ample garden and woodland surrounding the palace, in addition to offering a pleasant atmosphere for tour and relaxation, are very beautiful and interesting.

And they also include some tropical plants (various palm trees) as well as exotic flowers (orchids, bromeliads, succulents). A small and well maintained Botanical Garden.

Today - or maybe yesterday - Adobe published the newest version of Photoshop (Photoshop Beta) with some amazing new features. It is the first time prompts can be used inside of Photoshop to generate AI content - and it works like a charm.

I photographed the subject matter in Helsinki Jätkäsaari-island in a new residential area (the young woman and the huge metal sphere).

I tried out the new background changing AI - and gave as the prompt: "A cool mountain scenery with stormy clouds". The genration happens in the cloud after the complete picture is uploaded and analyzed for content: form and color. I was amazed by the quality of the result.

For the depth of field I used the lens blur filter and did some refinement of masks and some color corrections.

Lake Genval in Autumn is a Pure Poetry!

“The word of a gentleman is as good as his bond; and sometimes better.” – Charles Dickens (British author).

“Perhaps the true definition of a gentleman is this: Whoever is open, loyal, and true; whoever is of humane and affable demeanour; whoever is honourable in himself, and in his judgement or others, and requires no law but his word to make him fulfil and engagement; such a man is a gentleman, be he the highest or lowest rank of life, a man of elegant refinement and intellect, or the most unpolished tiller of the ground.” – ‘The Gentleman’s Book of Etiquette and manual of Politeness’ by Cecil B. Hartley, 1860.

The theme for "Looking Close… on Friday" for Friday 25th of April is "fingerprints". Now, I don’t happen to have an ink pad handy, but I do have some grey lead pencils, and I decided to use the lead from one such HB pencil to shave and turn into powder which I was then able to dip my left index finger into to create this fingerprint, which I then turned into the head of a gentleman in a suit (very like me as I quite like wearing suits and smart ties). Whilst it perhaps didn’t turn out quite as clearly as I would have liked, after several attempts, this was the print with the best result. I do hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!

The artist took over his famous father's studio in 1625 when Jan the Elder died unexpectedly. The composition here is borrowed from somewhat more elaborate arrangements by Jan l,the execution pays tribute to him without achieving the same level of refinement. Various insects and fallen flowers support a conventional vanitas theme which is relieved by the butterfly,a symbol of the soul and Resurrection.

Victor Brecheret's award-winning sculpture "Burial" is in the Cemetery of Consolation. The awards took place at the Paris Autumn Salon in 1923 and are in Olívia Guedes Penteado's vault, with the original title Mise au Tombeau. The marble sculpture measures 2.26 x 3.65 meters, has linear forms and a melodic softness to treat the theme of burial, albeit in a formal way, evoking a climate of serenity.

We find in this work the refinement of classical art to the vigor of modern art. In the sculptural group "Burial" executed in 1923 in the Cemetery of Consolation the artist modeled the scene of Pieta (Christ and his mother) and the holy women: Mary Magdalene, Mary of Cleopas, St. Elizabeth and a fourth woman, , but perhaps an allusion to Dona Olívia Guedes Penteado.

" Judgment Awakened My Heart " | praise and worship music With Lyrics

Introduction

What should I seek in my faith? Now I have had an awakening. Before, I believed in the Lord just for blessings. I enjoyed God's grace quite greedily. But judgment awakened my heart. I said all the right things in prayer, but in practice did whatever I wanted. What I did for God was for my future and fate. The truth I did not practice. Then judgment awakened my heart. I worshiped God living in religious rites, but in my heart, I was empty, not filled. My corrupt disposition was not cleansed. How could I carry out God's will? God’s words are like a double-edged sword, piercing my heart and spirit. I've suffered much through trials and refinement, my corruption being cleansed. I've tasted God’s love, and I am determined to seek and gain the truth. I will faithfully fulfill my duty to God to repay His love and be His true witness.

2019 | Christian Music Video | Hymn | English Christian Song With Lyrics "Is the World Your Place of Rest?"

www.holyspiritspeaks.org/videos/is-the-world-your-place-o...

Introduction

I

People who live outside God's words

and flee the suffering of trial,

they’re all just drifting through the world,

like autumn leaves, blown in the wind.

They flutter here, they flutter there.

They never have a place to rest,

much less God’s words of consolation.

They’re only beggars in the streets,

outside the kingdom of heaven.

They’re wandering from place to place,

though God’s chastisement and refinement

don’t ever follow them.

Can you be sure the world’s your place of rest?

Can you smile with ease in this world

if you’ve avoided God’s chastisement?

And can you use your fleeting joy

to cover up the empty feeling in your heart

that cannot be concealed?

You can fool anyone in your family,

yet you can never fool God.

II

Because your faith is all too weak,

you’ve not seen joys that life can offer.

God urges you to be sincere

and spend half your life for His sake.

It’s better than living your whole life

in mediocrity, in labor for the flesh,

enduring all the suffering and pain

that man can hardly bear.

What purpose does it serve to love yourself so much

and flee from God’s chastisement?

What purpose does it serve to shun His brief chastening

and reap shame, punishment forever?

Can you be sure the world’s your place of rest?

Can you smile with ease in this world

if you’ve avoided God’s chastisement?

And can you use your fleeting joy

to cover up the empty feeling in your heart

that cannot be concealed?

You can fool anyone in your family,

yet you can never fool God.

The meaning of pink roses can stand for femininity, elegance, refinement, and sweetness. But the pink rose can also have additional meanings depending on its shade. A deep or hot pink rose can convey gratitude, appreciation, recognition and is a great way to say “thank you,” while a light or pale pink rose conveys grace, gentleness, joy, and happiness. Pink roses pair with almost everything, but most of all, with big luscious peonies best.

Remnants of an European culture still remain on Ilha de Mocambique. Portugal left behind some lovely areas designed for relaxing. The well-preserved treasures are the reason why this island was declared an UNESCO World Heritage site in 1991.

The sea wall is quite distinctive through out the island. It sparkles brightly with fresh white paint. Unfortunately, along with these lovely memories of refinement are memories of the persecution suffered by the people at the hands of the colonists.

So often I've found good conditions forecast, only to make the wrong choice on where to go. I thought the promised hoar frost was going to elude me as there wasn’t much evidence (Other than fog) on the journey. Fear not though... turned out to be spot on when I arrived at my chosen location. A quick minimal bit of refinement on this one. More to come...

Under the same keys, two musical worlds came together in an event celebrating the 150th anniversary of the births of Sergei Rachmaninov and Maurice Ravel. Four pianists, divided across two pianos, brought to life significant works by the two composers, each interpreting their unique musical language with mastery. Rachmaninov was represented through his romantic virtuosity, while Ravel shone with his impressionistic refinement. An extraordinary evening in which the stylistic diversity of these two musical worlds intertwined harmoniously, offering the audience a memorable experience of unity and creativity.

These were the flowers on one of my dwarf crabapples last spring, I think the variety is 'Camelot'. For me, they are the purest and most beautiful of all flowers, and their fresh fragrance is fine and elegant, but not overpowering - just heavenly! Orioles come into the crabapple trees when they are in bloom, and bees come to pollinate, and later in the year, cedar waxwings and robins feast on the berry-like apples. Caterpillars treat crabapples like a native tree, even if European or Asian apples are crossed in. The apple tree was where Adam and Eve encountered each other - at the time it was still paradise! There is no more innocent and no more nourrishing tree, and I believe apple trees are the most peaceful beings in the universe.

Lake Genval in Autumn is a Pure Poetry!

................................................................................................On June 17, 2012, in the 2nd week of Pentecost, All Saints who have shone forth in the land of Russia, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia performed the rite of the great consecration of the cathedral church of the Holy Prince Igor of Chernigov in Peredelkin near Moscow and the first Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated church.

St. Petersburg craftsmen from the Guild of Masters borrowed the idea to create a church with bright domes of unusual shape and texture from the Moscow St. Basil's Cathedral on Red Square. The authors of the current project of porcelain domes have been struggling for more than six months over a seemingly unsolvable task - how to create unusual festive church tops that would not only be unlike others, but also be durable.

The main dome of the temple is about the height of a three-story house and almost ten meters in diameter. Its main color is bright blue. However, the range will not be monotonous - other colors are provided."The dome consists of 24 rounded lobules of cobalt color, and each of them is divided among themselves by porcelain rollers, which are covered with special ceramic gold. This is a 12% solution of gold in vegetable oils. It is applied like paint with a brush, and then it is burned to 850 degrees. After that, the gold seems to stick to the porcelain surface and becomes unaffected by any weather influences."

She had expressed herself, as women will,

in a smug broadside of pastel shades.

Nothing clashed because nothing had the strength to clash; everything murmured of safety among the hues;

all was refinement.”
