Salishan Spa & Golf Resort, a 205-room resort on 250 acres south of Lincoln City in Gleneden Beach,
It was opened in 1965 by real estate developer John D. Gray and his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Neuner. John Gray was an Oregon native and a business graduate of Oregon State University and Harvard. As said by his daughter Janet Webster, “he was an active business person, but also very intrigued with land development“. Gray built several high-end resorts and rustic lodges in the Pacific Northwest such as Sunriver Resort near Bend, Skamania Lodge in the Columbia Gorge in Washington, and John’s Landing in Portland.
In 1996, the Grays sold the resort to ERE Yarmouth, based in Australia, who turned the property over to Dolce International, a management group set on converting the resort into a corporate retreat. In 2000 it was the Westin Salishan resort.
It was purchased by Alpha Wave Investors in 2017. Ken Cruse, CEO, wanted to “return one of the state’s most treasured lodges to its old glory”. He remodeled and updated to make it an expansive, all-inclusive luxury and leisure resort destination. In October 2019, Conde Nast, named the resort one of the top five resorts in the Pacific Northwest.
The enhancements included guest arrival and landscaping, upgrades to the lobby and attic lounge, a new luxury glamping experience, a treetop canopy tour and ropes challenge course, high-energy mountain biking trails and technical features, and new curated art programs. Alpha Wave contracted Portland-based ELK Collective to lead the design efforts and hired Portfolio Hotels & Resorts to manage the resort.
In August, 2024 Alpha Wave Investors refinanced a 3 hotel portfolio (Salishan Coastal Lodge by SCP, the SCP Colorado Springs Hotel, and the SCP Depoe Bay Hotel) for $36.6 million at a blended interest rate of 7.67%. "We are grateful to our long-time strategic lending partner, Sunwest Bank, and to our new tactical lending partner, Edgewood Capital Advisors, for their solution-oriented approach to this refinancing," said Ken Cruse, founder and CEO of Alpha Wave Investors and Soul Community Planet (SCP). The Salishan Coastal Lodge is now a member of Curator Hotel and Resort Collection.

The Salishan golf course restoration in 2004, was overseen by PGA Tour Pro Peter Jacobsen and his design firm, Jacobsen-Hardy Golf Design. The restore preserved the layout and the spirit of Salishan’s fabled links, enhancing playability and opened the golf course to captivating ocean views.
