Name: Charulata
Species: Eastern Coyote/Coywolf
Sex: Female
Location from: Upper US (possibly Canada)
Other: Eastern coyotes (AKA Northeastern coyote) are descendants from coywolves. Due to the wolf genes in their system, they tend to be bigger in size with more robust features- not quite as burly and square as their wolf grandparents, but not as slender and dainty as the rest of their coyote family.
These hybrids and hybrid descendants are most prevalent in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Maryland, New York, New England, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. These hybrids were caused by low wolf population numbers in Canada (Canadian Gray Wolf numbers have since become healthy again), where wolves became desperate and started mating with coyotes. Normally, wolves are not tolerant of coyotes in the least and will usually harass or kill them outright.
The department has been building up a library of design related reference books over the last few years. Pupils are encouraged to make use of these books on a regular basis. The photographs here demonstrate the tremendous wealth of content contained therein.
The sequence has been shot in such a way that the cover of the book is shown first and a few sample pages are included to give the student an idea of the content the book contains. Pupils may then approach staff and request a short term loan.

This was from a fascinating exhibit at the National Geographic Society. I knew that the Chinese had trade relations all over Asia even before the Spanish came to the Philippines. Well, I'm Filipino so my point of reference is Philippine History. :-) In any case, I had no idea that at one time, during the Chinese Ming Dynasty specifically, the Chinese had a trade network that extended all the way to Arabia and Africa.
This exhibit was about Zheng He, the greatest Chinese explorer. He was a Chinese Muslim from Yunnan province. When the Ming army attacked his village, he was captured and made into a eunuch, serving the emperor. Despite his status, he rose through the ranks and later became an Admiral, leading seven different expeditions and establishing a trade network and a Chinese presence from Vietnam to Sri Lanka, to Arabia and all the way to Africa.
The ships of his fleet were called Baochan treasure ships and they were supposedly so large that fleets of Vasco de Gama or Christopher Columbus could have fit into a single deck of his flagship. They were the largest wooden boats ever built.
Zheng He's vision in his relations with other cultures was to create a network based on trade with a commitment to cultural and religious tolerance. Unfortunately, China later entered into a period of isolationism and stopped the trade expeditions. Zheng He's nautical charts and ship designs were lost or destroyed. A great cultural and historical loss.
However, to this day, Zheng He's influence remains in the monuments and culture of some of the communities he visited. Some of his men married local women and created a community of Chinese-Africans in Kenya and he has become somewhat deified in Semarang, Indonesia where Buddhists and Muslims together celebrate the San Po Festival in his honor and pay homage to his philosophy of religious tolerance.

DS has a reference folder that contains things he needs to look up frequently and all his checklists for his activities so I don't have to remind him of what he's supposed to be doing all the time.
The first page has a calendar--printed on cardstock and NOT laminated so he can mark it off himself. The second had his handwriting reference page.
