Clearly not a great shot, but as I stumbled across it looking for something else, thought it worth a quick scan and upload. 37682 and a fellow Tractor pass Water Orton with a Washwood Heath-Peak empties, back in the summer of 1988.

More than often it's when I'm on the road that there's any instant motivation to do any kind of self portraits. I did want to take one yesterday because of the tie and shirt combo I rocked, but by the time I had the chance, it was dark. And you all know how I get alone with indoor portraits...I DON'T!!!!!!

Seeing this On Black might help me look decent.

...after a sedentary Saturday nursing my right wrist, which was in the grips of another tedious arthritic attack, my GLW and I went downtown to the Caribbean bar, Turtle Bay. Plenty of reggae and oodles of Red Stripe later and I hardly noticed the pain ;))

Oh yeah, took the Pen F and 45mm f1.8 too

Red stripes make cars go faster. Maybe it's intended here to alleviate the wait...

The Chinese oak tussar moth (Antheraea pernyi) is borderline a domesticated animal at this point. Unlike the domestic silk moth (Bombyx mori) however, this one can survive on its own in the wild and on occasion, there are various feral populations in China.

This is a large species with a wing span of around 12 cm (4.7") and it has the most wonderful transparent windows in the wings which remind me of the portholes of a ship. Very cool.

No, despite the title, this isn't a post about Jamaican beer, but about those markings that some of the female goldenrod crab spiders (Misumena vatia) have on their abdomen.

I used to think it was something that all of them had once they became adults, but from what I've gathered now, it appears to be something that some have and some don't - like freckles. Here's one which definitely is adult - but completely lack the red: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51543482175/

These ladies can change colour and turn light green and all the way to snow white, but it doesn't affect the red markings.

This particular one was hanging out on a cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris) in Åva-Stensjödal on Tyresta National Park, Sweden, and as you can see, she hasn't had the time to adjust her colour to the new flower yet. It takes a couple of days for them to make the shift so they aren't as fancy as a chameleon or an octopus, but still quite cool.

20010 + 20128 pass Stanton Gate on 28th April 1987.

The line branching off to the left under the M1 served several local collieries, and the Stanton and Staveley iron works, all long gone. There were a few flows of outbound spun pipes, again long finished, and now the line sits waiting for possible future traffic from the New Stanton business park development.

Here is a cool-looking kleptoparasitic wasp called Gasteruption boreale. The presence of an ovipositor tells us it's a female, but unlike some other Gasteruption species, the ovipositor has a somewhat manageable size. There are others where it is way longer than the entire wasp.

This particular one was hanging out next to where a annulate masked bee (Hylaeus annulatus) just had laid her eggs - no doubt hoping to lay her own egg on top of the bee's.

A shot of the poor bee in question can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52182563184/

This extremely hungry spider is a female goldenrod crab spider (Misumena vatia) eating this male Tachinid fly called Gymnosoma nudifrons on a cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris).

I had some special plans for her though so I managed to put her in a small plastic container before going home and when we got there, I put her on a ox-eye daisy in front of my neighbour's house.

I've named her Sussi and apparently she was very hungry as not fifteen minutes later, I found her having caught and was eating another fly. Next day she had caught a bumblebee and the day after that a solitary bee. Today I saw Sussi with another fly again. We're going to be out of flying bugs soon if she keeps this up!

I found this very white female goldenrod crab spider (Misumena vatia) when she had caught and was eating a peat hoverfly.

The thistle was just bustling with life so I took lots of photos of them. During this, the spider got scared, dropped the hoverfly and then opened here arms in this "free hugs" position.

In the top left, you can sort of almost see part of the click beetle that was being bullied by some black ants.
