A vacant office building in downtown Syracuse has had its glass exterior removed from the upper floors in its conversion into an apartment building.
The castle like facade has gone, together with its broken windows in the turrets which provided a home for many a pigeon.
The attractive canopy survived until the later redevelopment, but an ugly office building replaced this once characterful view, and remains to this day. The arches on the right and Victorian bridge have also been replaced, in reengineering the line's steep descent to St Paul's Thameslink, after Holborn Viaduct closed in early 1990.
New York Central observation car hickory creek and 2 other private cars are on the back of Amtrak empire service train 233 as it skirts the Hudson river in Peekskill, NY. The scene at Peekskill is rapidly changing with a new development set to block the scenic view of the numerous daily Amtrak & Metro North trains passing by. The situation in Peekskill serves a reminder to document what is there now as it may not be there tomorrow.
This whole area is at the beginning of a massive evolution. The train station has been razed since I shot this and the train line is being closed to remove the level crossing.
Victoria Street, Bristol, crosses the centre of this photo from left to right. The triangular "flat iron" buildings at the junction with Temple Street are already derelict and boarded up, though they lingered on for some years after the photograph was taken on Saturday 19th January 1974. They came down at some time between August 1980 and April 1981. In their later years their Victorian brickwork, by now considered ugly and unfashionable, was covered with a drab render.
The reddish colour of the foreground is from the brick dust of Temple Colston School, which had been demolished during 1973. The buildings had been designed by Foster & Wood. The Novotel hotel now stands on the site. Above the roof of the bus (Bristol Omnibus Co. no. C7071) is part of the Mardon Son & Hall factory. I think the building on the far side of Temple Street was also part of the Mardon complex. On the right a glimpse of the "temporary" metal flyover which took traffic from Temple Way to Redcliffe Way (but not the other way around) and the Grosvenor Hotel.
This is definitely looking along the new wall, which is the back wall when coming in the new main (formerly old, side!) entrance. The lecture room is a bit out of view to the right. The area seen to the left, where the dark grayish-blue paint is, is kind of the focal point for the new store, hence I've been saving photos of that area for a bit later in the series!

A none too great negative taken in poor light, 1968 somewhere in the Manchester area (the previous pictures on the film were taken at Manchester Victoria). Working tender first a Stanier Black 5 gets under way with a train of fitted vans. I hope the atmosphere of this makes the technical side become unimportant.
Scan from a 35mm negative on Ilford FP3 film.
a small family amusement park in operation for 80+ yrs closed forever to make way for housing, seems the land and politicos needs are more valuable than good family entertainment .......
The redevelopment of the Twin Sails wharf site has started, with the area being fenced off. The separate building at 23 West Quay Road is also being knocked down.
I've been taking photos of this area for a few years now and I think that this will be luxury appartments. With everything going on with the economy at the moment it makes me wonder if they've missed the boat with property speculation.

Demolition continues between Blundell Street and Tyldesley Road in connection with Work on the new 400 home development known as Foxhole Village. The development is on two sites, either side of Seasiders Way. Site one is located to the west of Central Drive, south of Rigby Road and north of Blackpool Football Club and site two is in the area to the east of Blundell Street, north of Rigby Road and south of Princess Street.
The area includes the Sands Way, Rigby Road and Blundell Street car parks.
Two parked cranes with lights that have nothing to do with Christmas - just promo for the builder. The bunting is to show that the trolleybus wires have been moved out from the construction zone. Note the lit covered sidewalk across the bottom edge (see next image)
Ryerson, Toronto's downtown university, is redeveloping Gould, the main pedestrian thoroughfare through the campus. It makes this a summer of dust and noise, but it should result in a very pleasant, more campus-like environment. This view is just two blocks from one of the busiest intersections in Toronto.
The tower rising above the campus is Aura, Canada's tallest residential condominium building. canderel.com/en/aura
Part of the River Lea here has plenty of redevelopment behind the fencing, with apartments and shops.
The owners of the old tired block on the High Street have been given planning permission to demolish and replace with a building twice as high. No family flats but 300 co-living units with shared amenities. Rental only.
Future ShopRite site on Admiral Wilson Boulevard in Camden. Being developed with the Camden Redevelopment Agency it will bring a much needed supermarket to this area. Berglund Ford was located here, later a Trailways depot.
In the background is the old R.M. Hollingshead manufacturing plant, which made Whiz automotive and household products.
Groundwork is under way at the former Tri-Towne Plaza in Marlton NJ, being redeveloped into mixed-use Renaissance Square.
The redevelopment at University railway station on the Cross City Line, Birmingham, early morning in October 2022
Although I got several other photos along the back wall, I somehow managed to miss this wall signage in all of them! Like many other departments in this store, dairy is in a traditional location along the back left wall, wrapping around to the side wall as well.

Photographed in 1993 from the signal box at Manchester Victoria West Junction after removal of the station roof & reduction of the track layout leaving in total just 4 through roads.
A few months after this shot had been taken, this site had been cleared & lines slewed to make way for the arena & the arena car park.
Most,(if not all) of the site in this view now lies under the concrete of the Manchester arena.
The footbridge now passes roughly right through where West Junction box once stood.
I miss the old Victoria.
Not much activity here at the former Tri-Towne Plaza redevelopment site since the former Kmart was demolished. The local planning board has given approval for updated plans so work should be proceeding soon. Another hold up has been filing of environmental reports about soil extracted with contaminants from the former dry cleaner here and the clean up work. Delays in lab results has held that up.
The new plan now has a second floor of offices added to a new retail strip on the western side and increasing the sizes of two new restaurants to be built.
