I am not an expert on dragonflys, but I believe this is a Needhams Skimmer.

Every now & then I run into one of these gaudy dragonflies. Always get excited about it. Such a bright color & they are pretty good about perching where I can get good shots.

Nature is amazing!! Whenever I feel sad I take out my camera and spend some time in the lap of nature

Nature continue to amaze me with their beauty but it doesn't ask anything in return ❣️That's the gift of God 🙏

It is so difficult to capture this red dragonfly because it is so wild and fast. However, today during the Chinese Year, red being the good luck color for the Chinese, this creature came by and was so friendly to me.

Dragonfly (English); Cakcibo (Perak Malay); Patung (Northern Malay), Pepatung (Malays); Puting Beliung (Kelantan Malay);...what else?

Hashimchot said, "Capung (Indonesia), Sibor (Johor) !!!!

Menung patung = berdukacita atau menyesal dengan duduk berdiam diri ! == Melengung sotong !!!!!" This is interesting.

♥ Thank you very much for your visits, faves, and kind comments ♥

I don't see this kind of dragonfly very often but the few that I have run into have been friendly and cooperative. They land and stay in one spot. Too bad they can't all be like that.

This Neon Skimmer was taken in my backyard pond a few years ago. Every year we would have around 8 or so, and quite a few gold ones too. That went on for around 10 years or so, then we moved, no pond to put them in either.

Our plans are to make another pond, but that won't be for awhile.

We sure miss our red-orange Dragonflies though.

Scientific name: Libellula croceipennis

A vibrant crimson dragonfly gracefully perched on a delicate purple bloom. The striking red of the dragonfly creates a beautiful contrast against the soft violet hues of the flower, highlighting the intricate details of its wings and the serene beauty of the moment. A perfect capture of nature's artistry.

This is called "aka tonbo" 赤とんぼ in Japanese, literally-- red dragonfly.

I like the red rectangular pattern near the tip of the wings:)

And a interloper a Rhododendron Leafhopper (Graphocephala fennahi)

They catch my eye & I have to stop every time.

I am pretty sure this is the best I have ever captured a Dragonfly in flight. Golden hour, flash and my usual macro settings.

A vibrant male "Cardinal Meadowhawk" Dragonfly lands on the tip of a wetland grass above the water on a sunshiny afternoon.

I enjoy watching these vibrant Dragonflies hanging out around my pond!

Cardinal Meadowhawks are classified as a small dragonfly ( but large for a Sympetrum) with a length of 1 1/2" to 1 5/8" ( 38-40mm). The Meadowhawk pictured is larger in the photo than in real life.

Cardinal Meadowhawks can be found near ponds and lakes and are found from southern British Columbia down the west coast of the U.S. all the way to Chile and Argentina in South America. It also occurs in the northern half of the state of Idaho.

They take flight from mid May to mid August as an adult they eat almost any soft bodied flying insect including mosquitoes, flies, small moths, mayflies, and flying ants or termites.
