Third time's a charm. The weather forcast was promising when I left for the long trip to the High Coast of Sweden. The plan was to scout in this beautiful and wellknown Unesco World Heritage Site I had heard so much about but never visited before. The High Coast is a part of the coast of Sweden on the Gulf of Bothnia, in the Ångermanland province of northeast Sweden. Arriving late in the evening the idea was to climb the top of Skuleberget early in the morning to be there at daybreak, before sunrise. To my disappointment there was this beautiful view but all just grey, dull and flat. Later during the day the sun came out giving me hope for a nice evening light with perfect clouds in the sky. So I tried my good luck a second time only to arrive at the top of the mountain to view the greyish scene without any contrasts again. Comming down to my camper in the dark I heard myself saying: "third time's a charm".

I think that this one is the most comfortable photo I’ve ever made. I usually leave the house in the middle of the night and climb in the dark on a mountain only to catch the best light in the morning. Then when I arrive at the summit I wait for hours until finally everything is just right to make a photo. But not this time he he he :-))
Friends of ours have invited us to spend the weekend at their house. And what you see on the photo is the vista from the garden … wow!!! It was a very warm evening and we had made sausages for dinner. I had the feeling that the evening will bring me a surprise. So I had everything prepared before dinner. The camera was positioned and placed on a tripod, the composition was already made, the settings were estimated for the evening … the only thing to do was to press the shutter button! But since I did not wanted to get up from the dining table, the camera was equipped with a remote shutter release.
And in fact … suddenly during dinner, the sky changed the color to something pink and the area revealed a part of the Alps. I had in my left hand a sausage that I wanted to eat, and in the right the trigger for the shutter of the camera, which was placed about 15 meters away from me he he he :-) What a luxury he he he :-) So I only pressed the magic button … and voila… :-)
I want to thank all very much for your "views", "Comments" and "Favourites" :-) The only thing that matters is that you have joy in this photo. Again, thank you :-)

I continue to test out my new lens. It’s a Canon 16-35 f4 L IS and I wasn’t at all sure about it when I first got hands on but I’m coming around a little. What I really wanted was the Canon 11-24 f4 or the 16-35f2.8 mk3, although I didn’t know that the latter was about to be launched so bought the f4 instead. Perhaps I’ll upgrade when I see the reviews.
So back to the test!
I titled the image keeping it simple but in reality other than the composition this was not a simple shot. I made sure I picked a foreground object that was going to be full of texture and contrast. Wet rocks can provide an excellent test of contrast because the dark colour of the stone and the reflected highlight puts the brightest and darkest points of light adjacent to each other. I also wanted to test front to back focus. I know it’s common now to use focus stacking to bring a sharp background and a sharp foreground together but I like to try and control the depth of field so that I get each in a single frame. It also makes the post processing easier. My old Sigma lens supported f42 so although there was significant diffraction going on the depth of field control was awesome. With only f22 to play with I wasn’t sure I would get the depth I wanted. As it turns out not really a problem! I should have just consulted the DoF calculator, Doh!
So when I finally got the image into Photoshop I was really pleased with the sharpness of the foreground rock. I was worried that there would be a lot of noise in the shadows but that appears to have come out pretty well too. There really isn’t a lot in the background to test for sharpness but the clouds look good and what town lights there are look like points and not smears or blurs. More test shots to come tomorrow.

I chose The Acorn Planter because the first thing I thought of was a squirrel.
Then I read more about it.
london.sonoma.edu/londons-writings/plays/acorn-planter. It's a California Forest Play.
Firefly art image, painting.
Text prompt - "A forest hillside where great oak trees stand with wide spaces between. A stream flows from a spring that bursts out of the hillside. It is a place of lush ferns and thickets of such shrubs as inhabit a redwood forest floor". I also added a tepee is off to the one side.
Photo shapes: Firefly art gray squirrel holding an acorn among oak leaves.

There's something wonderful about those sunsets.. It’s not just the magical view, but the amazing feeling of being small yet connected to something bigger than ourselves.
Just could not get enough of these shots of the red setting sun as it travelled across the sky between the clouds. While it is beautiful to see, it tells you something about how much pollution is in the air all around.
Sunset not far from the place where I live. Have to walk 5 minutes to get to the open space where I can see the setting Sun.

Early morning sunrise over my birthplace, was taken just before the sun came up from behind the mountains. It was a December early morning, with the snow cover the mountain range across the Lebanese Cedars in North Lebanon. I tried to use my canon but unfortunately the battery was not charged up. I went for my Full Spectrum Olympus. It is a camera with a modified sensor which allows Full Spectrum photography, IR and Ultraviolet photography depends on the filters one chooses to use on it. This photo is taken with this camera with no filters applied. LifePixel did the modification on this one camera and it has been my little companion for nearly 11 years.I mainly use it for IR photography.
In the corner of the photo, there is a Cedar tree. I ensured it is in the photo as the cedars go in history to biblical days. It is not only today that cedars take on a big role in putting Lebanon on the global map. The trees are first mentioned in the Epic of Gilgamesh; The Cedars of God are mentioned as a divine, shady forest fought over by the demi-gods and the humans. It is said that the expanse was once protected by Mesopotamian Gods and that Gilgamesh himself used cedar wood to build his great city.
The trees also hold significant religious importance, as they are mentioned in the Bible on several occasions: King Solomon used their wood to build Jerusalem and Emperor Hadrian ruled them as royal domains which stopped their destruction.
