On Sunday 2nd September 2012, the Great Scottish Run 10k took place in Glasgow. The ADP Communities Sub-group, (chaired by GCSS) and partners Glasgow Life, helped fund more than 150 people to take part in the event as Glasgow GRAND Recovery Runners.
People recovering from alcohol and drug addictions, their families, friends and supporters of Recovery came together from across the city to take part in the run as part of this year’s GRANDweek. (Getting Real about Alcohol ‘N’ Drugs)
The Glasgow GRAND Recovery Runners were not only given a focus to improve their fitness and health as part of their Recovery, but were able to be part of an event with more than 24,000 participants from all over Scotland. The visibility and positivity of the group helped to challenge the stigma that is unfortunately still a major issue for those recovering from addictions in Glasgow and made a contribution to the fantastic work taking place in the Recovery field in communities all across the city.
