I realize my recent burst of Canadian stuff is neglecting CN a bit. They're actually kind of a big deal up there. I haven't expended a whole lot of time going after them, but they're pretty dominant and sometimes you just end up with the right target. On July 11, 2018, Ian and I woke up in Kindersley, Sask., with a hint that a train would be headed east toward Saskatoon the next day. This line is just a glorified branch now, so it takes a hint of luck to find a target. Instead, our quarry ended up going west. It's a local for the end of the line at Oyen, Alta., behind a pair of SD40-2Ws. The canola is in full bloom and oil wells are in full production. The train is on the approach to Marengo, Sask., and a dozen or so miles will cross the boundary into Alberta.
Today I just realized I took this picture exactly one week after the previous image—the same tree, different clouds, and leaves a different color, while riding in the car to the another neurofeedback appointment.
I took this picture while riding in the car about 70 miles per hour down the highway (my husband was driving) on the way to a recent neurofeedback appointment. Sometimes I bring my camera and see what I can capture as a way to cope with my severe mental health struggles. This tree, all alone, reminds me of how I often feel as a result of experiencing devastating traumas and severe mental health struggles. And somehow it feels a little helpful to make an image like this.

Somehow at the beginning of January we start to realize that winter will be here for a few months more, and we can't help to go back and remember the days in the sun and the warmer temperatures.
I guess I need a vacation, again...
A happy tune for a Monday :)

Photography is my passion, and nature photography is my favorite.
I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.
I'm in many groups, and I only add my photos to them if they are not private.
I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!
The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado
A lucid dream is a type of dream wherein you realize that you are actually dreaming, while still immersed in sleep. Title is from the lovely ambient piece by
Lights & Motion
Great Sand Dunes NP is a truly remarkable place. At sunset, with the wind blowing, a storm in the distance, and all alone on the dunes, it seems very much like a lucid dream. You know you are there, but time and presence of mind are blurred. A truly wonderful experience, if done right.
My son Daniel is in the distance. You can get a sense of how immense the dunes are from his relative size here. And it's just sand built up over time, eroded away and then rebuilt again through the action of wind and water. Amazing.

This is Rain. She is my alt. Although nobody believes this, because people seem to know that we live on 2 different continents, 8 hours apart.
What people don't realize is, we discovered time's not linear. And then we applied Fae logic. And now Rain is also my Rain Dear 😍
Sheeee's baaaaack!!! The best bestie with a different avatar because her previous one is broken. Welcome back bestie :D <3
Back after some much needed rest from the holiday! I do realize that the holidays aren't always a joyous time for everyone, so for those that have difficulty during that time, I do hope you were able to find at least one bright spot and something to be grateful for!

"When I realized that every morning I would see this light again, I could not describe my joy. I decided not to leave Nice and stayed there practically all my life"
( Henri Matisse )
******
When in 1917, at 48 years old, the painter discovered Nice, the light and reflections of the Mediterranean Sea aroused an unparalleled emotion in him. From 1921 to 1938 the artist lived in an apartment in the lively Cours Saleya, in Old Nice. From the balcony of his studio on the 4th floor overlooking the sea, he positioned his models in carefully arranged and highly theatrical settings, using an array of props, furniture and fabrics from his own collection.

I realized earlier this week that I haven't posted any photos of NYC laterly. I love you , NYC, but your cost of living is insane and always brings me down. Still, rides at Coney Island!

While driving along the Kings Canyon we realized it was only a couple hours to sunset. Importantly we had not decided any place where we wanted to get the sunset. For a change it was drizzling all afternoon and I was thinking of getting some nice post-rain clouds for the sunset. We finally decided to drive back to Sequoia and get the sunset at the Moro Rock. It was about an hour away from the Kings Canyon National Park.
As we arrived at the spot after climbing like 500 stairs, we were greeted with this awesome view. This is the west side where all the magic was happening.
The stairs go right to the top, an exasperating climb but completely worth the effort. At times a bit unsafe as the railings are absent, but no biggy! Excellent place to watch stars if you stay late on the top. This was taken from about half climb where there is a small balcony put out to watch the wavy valley.
The windy roads down the valley looked tempting. I instantly wanted to get the light trails of the cars driving back from the NP. I stayed up late and tried many exposures before I was sure about the settings. About 20min after the sunset I started to see the trials in 3-4min exposures but still the top of the photograph was too exposed. Had to wait a bit more for the light on the top to get less intense. The worry was the valley can get too dark! This was my third and final shot with a 6min exposure after the sun was completely down. Eventually, I realized its only a 15min window when the light is right to expose the shot right and get the trails distinct enough to stand out of the scene. The lights in the back is Visalia and Tulare.
This is a single photograph (not panorama), cropped from the bottom to remove the rocks from the front. In addition, I used a graduated ND filter (3-stopper) for this photograph.

i realize i live in a ridiculous place ...
... especially when the wildflowers are still blooming in the second week of July, and the fog is coming over the hill but the water is still blue because the sun is still out.
Past from few days i have been thinking about life a lot n i realized one fact that to be alone gives you a lot of peace n gives you a lot of space to think about ur self. i think its the stage of my life where i can stand alone, but still be happy.
attachment was what spoiling my peace all the time.now i have slowly started to be on my own n not to be attached to any one...n i shud say i am really happy guys :)
so i want to dedicate this picture to all those who are standing alone to achieve some thing, to be one with the self n to realize there own self.
And guys please dont comment on my pictures for the heck of commenting [don worry i would still comment on ur picture :)....]
and don comment if u don mean it and plzzzzz don use ur templates to comment on my pictures.i feel we are here to share our thoughts through our pictures n not to make others to comment on our pictures. any comments and critiques are much appreciated
i am still a beginner so please feel free to express ur Thoughts.
Have a wonderful week ahead!!!
Thank you all !
I realize that for Marilyn, this is a balmy spring day on the ranch. But I like to enjoy what little cool weather we do get here in the South. This is MY kind of weather, 16 degrees!
I just realized that we haven't been in the forest together for a while.
And since it's been really warm in the last few days and a little cooling down is needed again, I'll try to solve both problems at once.
Is it already working? If not, I have a few little details for you about the photo.
The temperatures on this beautiful winter morning in the Königsbrücker Heide were around minus 15 degrees Celsius. The air was as clear as glass and the snow crunched under my boots with every step. The ground was covered with small ice crystals that sparkled like small diamonds wherever the sun reached them. And every single branch had been encased in a crust of ice and snow and transformed into a work of art. And when the morning sun made these sculptures shine, it was a fairytale sight.
Otherwise there was an extraordinary silence in the forest as the snow absorbed the sounds that tried to get through to me from "civilization".
Well, I don't know about you, but I'm feeling a little more refreshed now.

I realized over the weekend that I passed my two year mark here on Flickr. I usually like to reflect back on the year and think about where my camera has taken me. I was amazed at how many of you I have actually met in person over the last year. I'm tagging all of the Flickr friends that I've shot with over the last year on this photo. Here's to more photo shoots in the future!
I realize that I just uploaded an American Tree Sparrow shot, but I really liked the look of this shot that I got last weekend. I noticed a group of sparrows in a brush pile so I 'spished' them out into the open. The charming little guy mounted itself on the best perch and I took the shot. It won't be long before these sparrows make their way out of Iowa and back into Canada for the summer.

I photographed this simple home in Tucson with the giant Saguaro's in the front yard. A few weeks earlier I found out that Universal Films reached out to me about using some of my photography in a new motion picture that will be directed by Steven Spielberg. My photography will be in a Steven Spielberg film! Any film would be an achievement for me but how incredible is this. I know its just a few images but its such a blessing. I am very thankful to God and my wife for allowing me this side hobby/passion of love photography has given me. I also want to thank everyone out there for always saying kind words and giving encouragement. Take care and God Bless.
Just realized I had not posted anything yet from Zion National Park. This park is absolutely stunning and totally different from the neighbouring parks. I can only recommend a halt here if you ever go to this area.

I realized when assembling the next few uploads that I have a new series going, "Birds On Blue". Nothing especially complex or esoteric about this; summer's here and we are seeing a lot of blue skies. In the final shot the background will be water, but I'd bet that most people who don't read my narratives will mistake it for sky...
As for degree of difficulty, birds in flight are never easy, and the Common Nighthawk's flight is both swift and erratic, with sudden cuts and turns as it alters course to snatch an insect from the air. There must have been a recent hatch that day, because I had about two dozen nighthawks swooping and gliding and wheeling above a large pasture, and they were obviously having success because it went on for some time. I sat at the edge of a ditch - NOT in the rolling red Toyota blind. The action was nonstop for more than half an hour. What fun!

Just realized I hadn't posted this photograph taken last October. My buddy, Mike Koenig, and I hit perfect conditions on this day. We hiked down into the gorge late afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves. Our shutter fingers were happily clicking away trying to take in every conceivable composition.
We reluctantly had to stop when we realized it was past sunset and by the time we began to hike up we were in total darkness. Luckily, Mike had a headlamp but it was still pretty creepy getting out. But what a great day.
Thanks for viewing my photos. Comments are always welcome.

I didn't realize how fierce looking and how ready (s)he was to attack me until I got home and had a closer look at it. I have no idea what kind of insect it is but I got pretty close until (s)he flew right at me and I got out of his/her way as fast as I could! I didn't even know those stingers where up and ready to attack me if I got any closer!
Wishing you all a HAPPY, PEACEFUL and a BLESSED Sunday/New-Week!

Here's a female Hooded Merganser with HER crayfish. You can see the object here is to break those legs off for easier swallowing. Her hood is a bit flat here but when fully fluffed, she's a knockout. The first sign I get for female vs immature/nonbreeding male is the yellowy color in her beak, while the male's is solid black. Second is the deep brown eye, vs. the male's golden eye.
The first time I eventually realized when I was looking at a nonbreeding male, he was with some breeders and seemed to be practicing his moves and I thought it was a misguided female. Only later did I get it.
I realized how great it s life when you enjoy every single moment without wasting the energy on thinking about the unknown future. "Let it go, and lets have some great photographs" I said just before taking this photo.
I hope you're all doing well.
I realized that I never posted a Snow Goose image all year, so before the warblers come up in full force, I am purging my images from last month. Here are some geese in nice late light.

Obviously I did not realize today was Valentines Day when I set up the images for the week. Next time I will try a little better. :)

I didn't realize that Arches has a timed entry program and wasn't able to get into the park until after 1:00 P. M. Because of my mistake, I didn't have a lot of time to visit at each of the main arches. So, I only went part way up to this feature that actually has two arches. The hike on the trail isn't that difficult and was well maintained.
They have the timed entry system because of the limited parking at each of the arches. People were driving around this parking area more than one time to find a place to park. That being said, once you get out of your car and get to explore, the place is pretty magical. Everyone has a smile on their face and is in a great mood. There are so many different opportunities to frame different perspectives of each arch. This was my first arch and I couldn't wait to see what the rest had in store for me.
A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me?
I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."
The woman below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."
"You must be a programmer," said the balloonist.
"I am" replied the woman,"How did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far."
The woman below responded, "You must be a manager."
"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well," said the woman,"You don't know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow "it's my fault."
