Realizing this is not very popular, I do love doing these so much!

I realize this is very different from the 'things' I usually do, but this is life for me at the moment.
New depths, higher highs, the beauty of the morning light and the life amidst the cool breeze and music drifting up from the cafe below my window.
I never realized the lead plant blooms. The color on both foliage and flowers was quite nice but I suspect that won't last. In between gusts of wind I got this shot which includes a bit of the foliage.
And its another plant with the nickname "indigo" - downy indigo bush. plants.usda.gov/factsheet/pdf/fs_amca6.pdf

I realize it's a ladder. Also, in a kiva you descend to the sacred space instead of ascending. The understanding of that space differs a bit among Indigenous Peoples who build kivas.
After the Pueblo Revolt, the victorious people of Cicuye built this kiva in front of the ruins of the old mission church. This expressed their views of the matter quite effectively.

Realized that I never posted this shot, even though it's a favorite of mine from last Fall.
Edited with my soft color pop and then added a texture from my Worn set.
.... and realize that it's still winter.
Hibernation isn't what it used to be anymore. Since our renovations about a year ago I had to put some of the files which I need for work into the room where Cleo hibernates. This means of course that I have to disturb her occasionally when I'm looking for something. Cleo wouldn't mind to be disturbed if I told her that spring had arrived but unfortunately that's not exactly the case right now.
And the world breathe.
Is it me or you guys are all a bit tired from Flickr? I have to confess I am.. but as I'm addicted, I urge to post almost everyday despite all the things I have to do, read and the everyday work of course....
I see less people posting as often and commenting as often.. Maybe is just because I'm not visiting you all and here, as you realize the comment-fave-go-round-thing need to be fed or will die...
Hope the "cancer" that is hitting Flickr (or just my group of friends) will not end it....
Have a wonderful Thursday!

I realized a couple weeks ago that I hadn't shot a self-portrait in a few months... And then I remembered that my tripod had officially died (I have unfortunately, yet quite mercilessly, dropped it down some rocky cliffs - by accident I swear - several times while hiking over the year). So with the help of my wonderful dad, I now have a new tripod and am ready to rock n' roll once again with my photo adventures!
This first weekend of spring I headed into the forest with Gurbir and Noah to shoot with the gorgeous (and almost long-forgotten) sunshine. When I saw how the light was hitting these logs, I immediately donned my dress, took off my running shoes, and went to stand on these precariously rotting branches. And... er... huh... as I'm typing this, I'm just now realizing that I seem to be wearing this same dress in several other standing-on-log photos... (here, here, here, and there's still more out there...) It must be an unconscious habit of mine. I'll do my best to change it up next time.
Anyway, as I stood here, part of the log started crumbling beneath me. I lost balance and jumped down, my dress snagging on the branches, thus causing my landing to not quite be up to my usual ninja smoothness standards... Still off balance, I stumbled forward and stepped most perfectly into the center of the biggest and squishiest dog poop I've ever seen. It was a bit of a pity that I chose this day as my first day of the year to go bare-foot in the forest.

This man was so engrossed in his phone that he paid no attention to the bin he was transporting on a dolly as it fell off, instead he stood behind his truck, totally oblivious. He opened his truck, reached for the bin and realized it was no longer there. My friend and I chuckled to see how long it took him to become aware.
just realizing now that i took a photo very similar to this one back in mid-september.
oh well.
i cropped this photo to within an inch of it's life.
just didn't want to see my face AGAIN today!
my mood is all over the place these days. i should only be happy with the weather finally taking a turn for the beautiful, but for some reason, i am feeling a bit empty right now.
and no, i'm not hungry! ;)
ah well. spring is in full bloom here and the vitamin D is plentiful, so i'll get it in gear soon.
hope you can all spend a good amount of outdoor time this weekend.
i know i plan to.

Just realized I have been on flickr for 5 wonderful years!! What a joy it has been, I have learned so much from looking at such beautiful photos! I have met the most wonderful, kind hearted people from all over the world! Many of you have been with me through the loss of my three dogs Rusty, Goober and Miss Penny over the last few years. You helped pull me through, and for that I thank you. I have never read an unkind word or been made to feel uncomfortable by a flickr member until recently. Problem solved, blocking someone is a beautiful thing!!
I just realized that 51 of my photos made it to explore. In all honesty, I don't care about explore at all anymore (honestly, have you seen most of the front pagers these days? Either I have spent way too much time on this site, or something is not right with this algorithm), but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the support my flickr contacts have given me. Really, thank you everyone! :)

I just realized that this is the first square self-portrait I've uploaded since day 365.
I couldn't chose between 3 edits of this so- Black and White on Facebook and bluish BW on Tumblr.
As Sarah was giving me a ride back home after shooting the last photo in my stream we were talking about wanting to shoot in Bannack, a ghost town a few hours away from us, and we were talking about how (relatively) close Whitney Justesen was to us. When i got home I got a message from Whitney telling me that she was going to be in Bannack the next day shooting. Such a perfect coincidence! I texted Sarah and within an hour we had planned a mini-roadtrip!
Bannack was such a cool place, so many abandoned buildings that were completely open to be explored, such as this hotel and a school house. Definitely need to go back soon.
Realized I didn't have a photo focused on this on my stream, so here it is.
I've had this little guy for quite a while now. It's by far one of my favorite tanks of the war.
Enjoy!

i realized that if you're shooting from a steep corner on top an unfinished building, you dont have much time to worry much about your horizon lines....
Despite the lack of a safety shoes and a helmet, we were given 5 minutes by the person in charge of the construction and took the lift to the 27th floor. i wasn't even contented that i took the stairs to the 29th. i was shaking when i tried to look down from where i was standing... this is the thrill of being on top -- the risks, the difficulties and the efforts just to get a shot... but it is worth it... even if i have a lot of pictures with unacceptable horizon lines, i will take more attention to it next time...
One fine day back in April I realized there was going to be low tide and likely good weather for catching the low sand levels around the Peter Iredale that had recently been featured back then in two posts by Alan Moditz and Zeb Andrews. Additionally according to The Photographer's Ephemeris there would also be a day old setting moon followed by the end of twilight before the parking area closed at 10PM… i.e. sunset, moonset, twilight, and stars all in a couple of hours. So at 4:30 Jim/JP Hansen @ Random…¡ and I headed out before the evening rush hour arriving about 6:30 for what turned out to be a great evening at the beach.
My recollection of that evening was of one compromised by the many other visitors walking and driving around the wreck, and as a result I had only posted one photo from that outing and quickly moved onto taking, posting and processing photos from other outings done busy Spring time of year. But during some recent rainy days and a week stuck at home with a cold I found myself reviewing photos from earlier in the year and was pleasantly surprised to find that I had come a way with many more photos than I remembered or expected. And that the abundant people there had helped force me into looking for and finding new and (for me) different comps- even one including people - that I otherwise would not have found or looked for. Last weekend I posted a few more shots and starting today will post the rest.
One way to shoot around people is to use an ultra wide angle lens which allows you to get closer to your subject than those shooting with their phones and cameras with longer focal lengths typically do, while pushing the background even further away. Here I loved how the late afternoon sun brought out the rich variety of rust colors of the wreck complementing them nicely against the rich blue sky. NB11493
....some things do just fine.
I have no roots. my father was a petroleum engineer and we moved every two years. I think my mother and my sister suffered the most.
I didn't realize that I was rootless, but when my shrink told me, years ago, i had one of those "aha" moments with better understanding.
my friend sati sent the tilandsias; air plants [the grassy ones]...rootless. they are doing just fine.
I just realized that my Steam Sunday post from earlier in the week never uploaded so here it is belatedly...just a wider take on this scene from New England's own little steam Mecca.
For five weeks before Christmas the Valley Railroad (dba Essex Steam Train and Riverboat) runs an astonishing amount of holiday trains branded as the North Pole Express. Most are steam powered and this requires all three of their steam locomotives to be under steam at once. Excepting the Strasburg Railroad I don't believe there is anywhere else in the United States where it is even possible for three standard gauge locomotives to be under steam at once. But here, every weekend, it is a regular occurrence as the railroad runs 13 sold out departures between 2 and 8 PM every Sat and Sun (only 9 on Tue-Fri) using four consists one of which is led by one of the road's center cab GEs.
Through some fortunate twist of fate I only live a bit over an hour away from this magical place so every year I make a trip or two down just to soak it all up.
The 2:30 PM departure to the North Pole has just departed the Essex depot and is crossing Main St. / Route 154 near MP 4.1 on the old New Haven Valley Line. In charge and putting on a nice show is Valley Railroad #3025, a China Railways SY class 2-8-2 that was built in 1989 by the Tangshan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works for Pennsylvania's Knox & Kane Railroad where it spent its life until that railroad's demise following the collapse of that lines signature attraction, the Kinzua Viaduct. It was purchased by the VRR in 2008 and was rebuilt as a functional replica of a New Haven J-1 'Mikado' locomotive like the type that once plied this line in local service and re-numbered 3025, one number above the last of the original class on the NYNH&H.

If you just realize what I just realized,
Then we'd be perfect for each other
and will never find another
Just realized what I just realized
we'd never have to wonder if
we missed out on each other now.
Realizing that Monday September 29th is National Coffee Day, Wonder Woman takes a moment to celebrate! Whether it's the aroma, the energizing boost, or just the ritual of drinking coffee, many of us can't start the day without it!
Even though she makes good money at the IADC, Diana prefers to brew her own coffee at home.
“The color brown, I realized, is anything but nondescript. It comes in as many hues as there are colors of earth, which is commonly presumed infinite.”— Barbara Kingsolver
The browns of Morocco. Like brown sugar or rich honey, it offers the comforts of a tattered throw, the familiar embrace of a worn leather chair, the sturdiness of the earth under our feet. Brown is at once familiar and a keeper of stories, a color of things that have lived. An old pair of leather shoes in a loud world of neon, chrome, and plastic high heels.
I used to enjoy my summer a lot, but nothing could make me happier than the fact that fall is coming slowly, and winter as well. Well I realize that the kind of fall I'd love to live, and the ones that we actually have here in Normandy are quite different but I still hope that once, I'll find that place where I could enjoy a REAL season without being disturbed by the pouring rain and the grey clouds all the time for example (I'm writing right now and it's raining outside haha - again)
Anyway, fresh air, coldness, sunbeams, orange colors, golden feelings, red trees and a billion leaves, cold sunsets and hot drinks, I hope I'll be able to take some cool pictures about all of that from now :)
And again as always, thanks for your support x
I didn't realize that experience and camera gear can make such a huge difference. But it does. My next in my restored building series is the Flatiron building in Toronto. However I am not happy with the outcome so Toronto bound I go to redo the composition. Using my new camera and my new top secret technique that I developed I know the outcome will be stunning..Stay tuned. for now here is a sample I am working toward.
Realized I had not taken proper advantage of the Michigan fall color so I grabbed some of the last leaves of the season and started floating them on the pond. Especially liked that this leave was likely once on the tree in this reflection. 305

After giving it careful thought, we realized our home felt too empty without a kitty, and Little Burrito was depressed. Last week we went to a shelter and looked at all the cats. I was especially taken with Domino (who was named Raspberry at the shelter) but the moment wasn't quite right so we went home and thought about it.
Yesterday morning Jim said let's go find a cat. We had considered a younger cat but when I called he was reserved. I decided we should go and take another look at Raspberry. When I went into the Senior Cat Room, she came right up to me and purred, and when i sat on the floor, she climbed up on my lap so decision made -- I wanted to bring her home with us.
She's had an interesting life. She was adopted from the shelter as a kitten back in 2009. In 2014 she was returned as her family had moved to a home which did not allow pets. She was adopted again in 2015, but in August of this year once again her family had to move and she was returned. (And no negative comments please about someone moving to a no-pet place -- the rental housing market is very tight in this area and it is extremely difficult to find a rental which will take pets. I give both her former families credit for returning her to the shelter rather than just abandoning her.)
Our application was approved, we paid her bail money and made a donation to the shelter, and brought her home with us. On the way home Jim said if we were going to change her name we'd better do it quickly, and I realized her markings reminded me of Ruth's beloved Domino and so we named her in honor of him.
A fun thing is that the local newspaper has a Friday Pet of the Week column, for which the various shelters are allowed to post a photo and information about two of their adoptable pets. They have to provide this information by Wednesday. Raspberry and a little dog named Millie were planned to be this shelter's featured Adoptable Pets, but yesterday, both got their Home for the Holidays. Yay!!!
I realize that I don't match up to my many contacts with superb rare bird image shots , am I jealous blood right I am , best I can do.

I didn't realize that I had blown out the chimney area with my strobes until I got home and was pissed that we could have spent so much time outside in the cold for nothing. I used some other shots where the strobes misfired to overlay the blown areas and tone things down a bit. I also changed the color balance to make the white light look as if it were orange-red to seem as if it were coming from a fire.
strobist: long exposure of about 100 seconds, 2 sb-24s fired from cheap ass (never using them again) ebay radio poppers both inside the chimney structure. My ever patient assistant, Lauren, light painted the top of the chimney with a Petzl headlamp (hence the bluish tones).

i'm back home for the summer now, and have been playing around all day with my brother Zev's Wacom tablet. i'm thinking of making a series out of this... what do y'all think; would you be interested in seeing that?
Realized from a concept by IgnusDei, found on DeviantArt.
Problem is that I'm a noob in composition and this ship is very big...so sorry for the picts again...
Merci à Pierre pour la typo...
About midday, I realize that it's time to begin considering something for today's 366 project. I gather the iphone, a coffee cup, and a fern leaf and dart toward the light flowing through the kitchen window. I move things around a few times and still don't have something that feels soulful to me. Then my friend, Lucio, walks in to ask a question. And this is how it happens. Doors open, and options reveal in the moments when you most need them.
All of this brings us here, an image of his hands. He is such a kind person, and he didn't even think twice about accepting my unusual request. Then again, most folks know if they stop by the house, it's likely they'll be in a photograph, smiling.
Thanks so much for following and supporting this little project of mine. I appreciate it.
I'll see you tomorrow, xo.
I realized while continuing this project that I definitely enjoy doing schoolwork when it feels like personal work more than anything else. I started this project as a personal thing but showed it in class, which led my teacher to tell me to continue. I took another three photos for this series yesterday but this is the only one I really like. So you may or may not see the rest.
However, I probably can and will post little previews of the others on my Instagram so you should definitely go follow me there. And go "like" my Facebook page as Im starting a small little giveaway soon in celebration of being near 1,000 likes!
I realized that I've been lacking uploads - a lot. So, went fiddling through files to see if I had anything that was of a quality worthy of posting, Well, here ya go. I'll be getting quite a few more up in the coming days...
Back in the spring of 2018, 2923 drills 324 of Gibson Yard in Hammond. If I remember correctly, this night was the perfect one to make the mile walk from home up to the yard - something like 68 degrees is just too great to not enjoy.
