this is lonely. she has now joined her friends in this "lonely doll" series.
i think the series is now complete.
lonely is not lonely anymore as she now has all her friends...and of course she is never lonely when you dear flickr friends come to visit her.
EXPLANATION OF PIECE:
this past summer i was traveling down a back road in utah and saw a old baby doll sitting on the front porch of an antique store. i was drawn to her.
since i have so many old baby dolls sitting in my art studio, and little room for another, i decided to take a photograph of her so i could remember her.
she looked so lonely to me (hence the title). perhaps lonely for her "long ago" little girl owner?
when i came home i knew i wanted to make an art piece to remember her. i happen to have an old piece of painted wood that i found in the trash and knew it would be perfect.
i "worked on" the colors of the photograph to suit the painted wood.
and here she is.....lonely

EXPLANATION OF THIS PIECE:
i find lately that i am preoccupied with making shrines. i just finished this one. am working on the next one and already have an idea for the third one.
thanks to pete i began thinking about why i was on "shrine" making .
there is a reason for shrines, totems and altars. i hadn't thought of it until pete's comment.
my husband is having a problem with his eyes and has to have surgery beginning of july. i think i am creating (unconsciously) shrines to send him good vibes/thoughts/quick & easy healing.

it is a four person show.
i did not apply for this show but was asked by one of the gallery directors to be part of this show....very exciting to be asked!
14 of my pieces were hug in the main room. two if my pieces greeted the visitors as they entered the gallery.
the reception was yesterday...it was a smash hit :)

self portrait:masks
this is my first self portrait. we all wear masks....some we show to others, some we hid and are private. the "skulls" represent the "inner me"...what lies below the surface. the "face" is me as i show myself to everyone. the two "masks" are what lies hidden. sometimes i lift the "mask". but if some get too close and i don't want them to lift the mask.....beware..there are "pins" in the mask to protect me. i am sitting in my hand.......i control my life, my fate, my destiny.

self portrait 6: flying high
when life goes well there is an inner sense of joy and peace. i feel i can do anything i want to do...even reach for the heavens. nothing is beyond my grasp!
i am riding high (on the horse).
the figure on the lower right is me looking at all i have/will accomplished, specifically in my art.
my hand is outstretched as i reach for new expression, new adventures, new directions. the baby in the hand is me growing and maturing as an artist.
the green face is me looking off into the future to see what awaits....the sun, the moon, the stars!

blood series uses visual language to generate archetypal, primal figures. there is a subconscious decision to call forth these god figures - form representations. they are tied all together in blood -- birth, life, family, violence and death. from "the garden of eden" to "the hand of god" -- witness horror, joy and recovery.
"blood series" was created in a two week painting frenzy following the opening of my art show. there are six paintings in this series. they all were painted in two weeks.

the middle part of this piece was done separately. i have a series of sketchbooks that i had made 2d collages in. every now and then i take out one of my earlier works and incorporate it into a new art piece. since my "style" of work changes as time passes i like to use the "old" with the "new". this keeps me in my original 2d collage roots and yet refreshes the piece into something different. maybe i should change the name of the series to "transformation"???
actually the "inside" collaged piece is "billboard" from italy and the "pink face" is torn from a billboard in new york. so it's a "double billboard". i just realized that...it was unintentional, but i like the "double" effect.
since i didn't realize this when creating this piece this underscores what i wrote about how i do my art in my profile...it is often "unconscious"...i never know from whence it comes!
