Gustav Klimt was a Austrian symbolist painter in the eighteenth and nineteenth century most well known for being part of the Vienna secession. Furthermore, He revolted against academic art in 1897 because he believed in freedom of expression. Gustav Klimt’s work is a peaceful protest against censorship and captures human nature in the most captivating way.
Therefore, I have recreated The kiss (painted in 1907-1908) as it represents a tender and intimate moment shared between two lovers. Gustav Klimt perfectly captures emotion and feeling regardless of his cubic style. The rigid aspects of this painting contrast with the softer shapes and colours to reflect the complexity of love. This reflects his struggle to express his love through his art.
Similarly, I have recreated miniature version of various other Klimt pieces that I believe reflect Klimt’s desire for freedom of expression. For example, the recreation of Klimt’s “Mother and Child shows a raw reflection of the very essence of what it means to be a human. However, when it was created in 1905 it was a shock to the public to see such a private affair in a painting. Klimt’s art is a slice of life that reflects his romanticised idea of human life.
