For today, a rant.

There are a lot of things that I love about Vancouver. It has a mild climate, there is fantastic skiing very close by, the mountains and scenery are gorgeous, there are lots of yummy restaurants to eat at, its citizens are (for the most part) really progressive. So what am I ranting about? Real Estate.

And the rant is twofold:

First, the price tag to own a home here is insane. And I don't just mean expensive, I mean absolutely completely and totally out of reach. The average price of a house in Greater Vancouver in March 2008 was $921,000. Yeah, yeah, those are Canadian dollars, but I don't care. My earnings are in Canadian dollars so that's just as ridiculous to me as it is to you. I will never own a house here. Never. I owned a condo once, in the suburbs. +$300k for a 750 square foot 1 bedroom. Ridiculous.

Second, the quality of houses here is so poor. Sure, the Craftsman houses from the early 1900s are gorgeous and well-built. But the vast majority of the million dollar houses that are going up? Crap. It's embarrassing.

I'm standing under a house in my 'hood that is being renovated. It was a 1943-era bungalow, probably around 1200 square feet. They have ripped the siding off and have elevated it, presumably to put an addition on below. This charmer probably came with a price tag close to $500,000. It's located right next to a major road (see behind me) and at the end of the airport runway. I'm waiting for it to be covered in stucco with faux columns at the front and painted pink. Bah!!

I might be the only one (vaguely) happy about the curent economic crisis in that heck, I have no assets or savings, so if housing prices come down far enough, maybe I can take advantage?!

As usual - really interesting stuff from Chuck, and totally confusing in places. The narrative style is interestingly done - lots of different characters telling you their different view on events and chopping between them pretty much every paragraph - sometimes contradicting sometimes agreeing. The time travel stuff and being your own father sounds like he might have watch a little too much star wars recently...

Bill Richardson wants the negative attacks to stop...in a political campaign????

I love the looks of this place, but I haven't been here. I've read the reviews and it seems to be a place to go for drinks and some food. I don't go out to drink, so, unless I'm with some drinking friends, and I don't have many of those, I'd head elsewhere. Otherwise, I'd give it a try.

no please let me do even more

Finally finished the custom.

Now she's not a giraffe's neck.

Now, I have no idea who these two actually are. However, I do know that they are both complete bellends.

A little background - I was waiting at the end of platform 2 for 55022 to depart. It was further into the station, so everyone else was up there. A trickle of people gradually appeared down near the end I was at, all taking care not to get in other people's way.

Then these two wankers turn up. They come wandering up the platform, and decide to plonk themselves directly in front of me and another bloke who's beside me. At this point there isn't time to go and speak to them before the Deltic comes past.

Whoever the hell you two are, thank you very much for ruining all but one of my photos of the Deltic leaving - thank you very fucking much for moving over and standing right in my way when I tried to take a photo of it emerging from the station.

I don't give a flying fuck that you have big posh DSLRs with massive lenses on them, it doesn't make you special and doesn't give you priority over other people.

If anyone actually knows who these two clowns are, make sure they know of my displeasure at their complete ignorance to those around them - as shared by the guy next to me.

If I wasn't in a hurry to get somewhere, they would've got an earbashing from me there and then, but this will have to do for now.

Great old sign in Braymer, Missouri is lighted during the day...at least part is.

Final day of the numbers challenge and I had to resort to an actual number!

I'm sure I rant on about this a lot, but tulips are my favourite flower since Simon said this photo was for me...

His most successful. I loved his poem:

I have two eyes, To see you.

I have two lips, To kiss you.

I have two hands, To hug you.

But

I have one heart, To love you.

I have all that too, but no Simon to see, kiss, hug and love.

I went in this cute little flower shop today to buy some tulips to take to his grave this weekend. Hope he likes them.

"Over My Head"

So I've been feeling pretty distant from you lately, not because of the fact that your literally 40,000 miles away from me, but it's something else. I can't put my finger on it. I'm just feeling like complete shit right now. You came home from college today and we were supposed to have our usual movie dates like we used to. We were supposed to sleep together on skype. We were supposed to do everything we that we used to do. But we didn't. We didn't do any of that. I guess it's my fault for getting my hopes up so high. I literally canceled all of my plans today just to spend it with you. It would of been perfect, but instead you were out the whole day. And I was home. alone. again. Shit. lol. You know how bad my anxiety is. I just wished that you told me that you were going to be out today. It's kind of pathetic cause I prettied up today for our skype date lol. stupid, I know. I don't care lol

Maybe next time.

But I seriously have to remember, we're not in high school anymore...

and that means that things have to change. I can feel the change happening already.

there was this really irritating older photographer in the pit who kept bating this kid and some of the others to jump up and down and act "crazy" for him. what the hell is the point of documenting an insane awesome crowd if you're going to try to control what they do? if you can't make a good picture out of what's already there, move on. don't encourage kids to jump more so you can nail that shitty syndicated photo you couldn't get on your own.
