Today I found an old Argus rangefinder camera at a flea market. It's a model C44 an upgrade from the C4 that was an upgrade from the C3 (The Brick). I have a thing for cameras that were made before I turned ten years old. At any rate I didn't know anything about this camera so when I first picked it up the weight of it and the brushed aluminum finish set off a trigger I have no control over. I bought it. Once I got it home and started going through the usual tests and checks some interesting facts started to surface. First everything worked so I will be buying a roll or two of film. I found a PDF copy of the manual and more interesting things came to light. I found out how to load the film, reset the frame counter and rewind the film once all the exposures have been taken. And something else. There is a lever with an arrow on it at the base of the lens. It had me mystified. Come to find out it's a lens release switch. By twisting the lens barrel to infinity pushing the lever in the direction of the arrow and twisting the lens in a counter clockwise direction the lens comes loose from the bayonet mount. Horror!! I HAD to buy a 35mm f4.5 and a 100mm f4.5 on Ebay. How could I possibly enjoy using a camera without having all three available lenses. No big deal the entire outfit was less than $90.00. If I get any good photos out of it I'll post them.

After having detoured to see the Sunset Crater just outside of Flagstaff, we headed due North to our next destinatio, Page Arizona. There we took a much anticipated tour of Upper Antelope Canyon.
The drive there along Forest Service Road 545 afforded us views of wide open spaces like this , with very few cars to get in our way.

Adapting a minolta macro lens to my Canon EOS1n. I wish this Pax worked-- it such a solid and small camera, but like most it is completely frozen from old grease.

I have been wanting to get out all week for a descent sunset but I was finding myself in the wrong place at the wrong time!
Tonight at St Mary's Island it was a beauty and I would like to think I opened the shutter at just the right time, after this shot the colour and the light was drained from the sky and it was the end.

So I bought a couple of old cameras the other day, I'd like to get back into shooting B&W with film, and I've never had a rangefinder before. This was kind of an interesting find, it's not all that special, but it came with the original box and instruction booklet (circa 1966), as well as a really cool old school bulb flash. it looks like it's never been used, so I'm kinda stoked!
Once upon a time it would have been considered sacrilegious to put a Zeiss lens on a Leica rangefinder. I've gotten over it.
I really like the atmosphere over there especially the lights coming from the ground and the bokeh behind.

The Olympus 35 DC has the same six element 40mm f1.7 lens, body and rangefinder as the Olympus 35 RC but is AE only and offers no manual override. Although this can be limiting to some extent, I like the fact that all you have to do is focus, point and shoot. I have both the 35 RC and 35 SP but have a soft spot for the DC.
