A big group of terns suddenly started fluttering their wings and rose in the air when I was shooting a portrait of my buddy Shyam in the shores of Dhanushkodi, Rameshwaram.
Dhanushkodi is a ghost town at the south-eastern tip of Pamban Island of the Tamil Nadu state of India. It was completely destroyed by a cyclone in 1964 and a train with 115 passengers was drowned in the sea.
Hindu pilgrims usually bathe in the ocean here before completing the pilgrimage to Rameswaram. The spot is considered a sacred confluence of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. In addition, it is said that pilgrimage to the holy city of Kashi in North India is not complete without also worshipping at Rameswaram, including the ritual bath at Dhanushkodi.

Remains of a boat at dhanuskodi, a small town some (30Kms from Rameshwaram and around 95Kms from Ramanathapuram), which was fully drowned in the sixties due to an alleged 'Tsunami' kind of floods!(No awareness on Tsunami then!!!)
Now the place is deserted...and is a tourist place, you cannot drive there,(to save your car from getting into the beach and sea) had to go on some 4X4 trucks those fishermen have.

Thiru Uthirakosamangai is a renowned Shiva temple believed to exist from 3000 years ago. The presiding deity Managalanathar is believed to have preached the meanings of Vedas and other auspicious secrets of Hinduisms to His consort Managalambigai at this holy place. The temple and its glory are found to be mentioned in various literatures and Saivaite canons.
The unbelievable fact about this idol is that Lord Nataraja stands as a six feet tall statue carved out of a single emerald stone. Dating back to around three thousand years, the source and means for such a precious statue are still a mystery.
