Come late Nov / early Dec all the trees will be bright red :-)

The Pōhutukawa is one of twelve Metrosideros species endemic to New Zealand. Renowned for its vibrant colour and its ability to survive even perched on rocky, precarious cliffs, it has found an important place in New Zealand culture for its strength and beauty and is regarded as a chiefly tree (rākau rangatira) by Māori.

Was keen to see the bokeh on the Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro lens - yep not bad.

Dendroglyphs

In the Chatham Islands, the indigenous Moriori people practiced the art of momori rakau (tree carving) as a ritual possibly associated with death or remembrance. The dendroglyphs cover a range of features, with many representing human figures and others clearly representative of birds, fish, plants and animals.

Thank you for an amazing memoir of the perfect afternoon.

(origin: New Zealand)

(family = Laxmanniaceae or Asparagaceae or Liliaceae)

Because their high carbohydrate content can be made digestible by cooking, they were a valuable food source for at least the first 800 years of Māori occupation of New Zealand. Radiocarbon dating points to use since about the year 1000.

Auf, auf, ihr Diener Gottes alle

1.) Auf, auf, ihr Diener Gottes alle,

Erhebt den Herrn mit vollem Schalle,

Die ihr in seinem Hause wacht,

Und schaut, wie auch bei später Nacht

Ihm euer heilig' Tun gefalle.

2.) Gedenket mit erhabnen Händen

Zugleich den Geist hinauf zu wenden

In ungefärbter Heiligkeit

Und lasset hier bei Lebenszeit

Des Herren Lob sich nimmer enden,

3.) Der Herr wird dich mit seinem Segen

Aus Zion um und an belegen,

Der Himmel, Erd' und ihre Zier

Gemachet hat und was allhier

Sich in und neben uns kann regen.

Michael Behm (* 29. September 1612 in Königsberg; † 31. August 1650 ebenda) war ein evangelischer Theologe.

Michael Behm wurde als Sohn des Königsberger Professors für Theologie Johann Behm und seiner Frau Ursula (geb. Rakau) geboren.

Wasa veranstalteten Colloquium charitativum in Thorn.

April 1665 in Königsberg heiratete. Dieser Ehe entstammen der Theologe Johannes Ernst Grabe sowie der Bibliothekar Sylvester Grabe.

The "New Zealand Christmas Tree" comes in two flavours, of which this is the Southern rātā, Metrosideros umbellata. Thanks, Diane, for pointing out that this is not the Northern rātā Metrosideros excelsa.

Metrosideros excelsa (pōhutukawa, New Zealand pohutukawa, New Zealand Christmas tree) is a coastal evergreen tree in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, that produces a brilliant display of red (or occasionally orange, yellow of a mass of stamens. The cabbage tree Cordyline australis, known as Tī rākau or Tī kōuka (and, more rarely, whanake) in the Māori language is a monocotyledon endemic to New Zealand. It grows up to 15 m tall, at first on a single stem, but dividing into a much-branched crown; each branch may fork after producing a flowering stem. The leaves are sword-shaped, 40 to 90 cm long and 3 to 7 cm broad at the base, with numerous parallel veins. The flowers are creamy white, each flower small, about 1cm diameter with six tepals, and produced in a large, dense cluster 50 to 100 cm long. The fruit is a white berry 5 to 7 mm in diameter.

Because their high carbohydrate content can be made digestible by cooking, they were a valuable food source for the Māori. Related trees were probably valuable elsewhere in the South Pacific. Fern root was the only other substantial native carbohydrate source.

Our head brewer had the romantic idea of doing a 100% Tahoma hop farmhouse ale. After testing the hops in an infusion tea, we found it was so bad, and so dead that we had to look somewhere else for the hop bill. But Tahoma was such a cool name that we decided to keep it even if there is No Tahoma hop in this beer! This Farmhouse pale ale is brewed with oat malt, hopped with Ella, Magnum and Smaragd. Dry-hopped with Simcoe, Centennial and Rakau.

Pandrekk: The Ember Guardian

Elements:

-Air

-Fire (limited)

-Stamina (by access of Hekona stone)

Rakau was a Le-matoran who grew up in Voya Nui, spending time in exploring the realms of the jungle. He was attacked by the Piraka, personally tortured by Vezok and Zaktan. As he grew older, he began to work with other matoran in defiance to the growing sand faction who wanted to conquer the entire Matoran Universe, starting with Voya Nui itself. He eventually joined the Redemption League to become a toa to fight against the Sand. During an aerial advance, a bounty hunter shot fire orbs which grievously injured him and almost left him for dead. Severely burned, he dragged himself into a dark cave, with a pit of energized protodermis. Accidentally falling in, the substance mutated him and his powers by fusing his air and fire elemental characteristics, augmenting some and diminishing others. When Rakau woke up, he lost his ability to fly but still retained his ability to move at faster speeds. His burns allowed him to control the element of fire as a secondary element. The Great Beings implemented in his chest the Hekona stone, which allows him to control his stamina and energy. Realizing that he was needed to protect his own people, he renamed himself Pandrekk as he found out that his armor came from multiple sites. He eventually crafted his very own sword, the taurua, as it means “double” in matoran due to the sword having two functions: slicing and piercing. He waits in Le-koro in a dark cave. Legend says that when he is truly needed, the Ember Guardian will come forth to exact revenge on those who have wronged him and his people. While he cannot fly like his original self, Pandrekk can move faster than other toa as he still possesses the element of the wind. His titan hands, like other titans, can make the earth shake by slamming the ground. He can also control the element of fire and shoot fire from his hands. However he prefers to use this as a last resort as each time he uses it, it burns him. While not an official element, he also controls energy with the kanohi Kaha which is powered by the hekona stone implemented in his chest. This can increase his energy rate but does not have any effect on his opponents. His arms have arm gauntlets which can make any elbow movement (for knocking or slicing) very fast. Pandrekk uses his taurua as his primary weapon. He also owns hidden taraiki blades to slash through vines and to use as secondary weapons. When fighting hand-to-hand, he likes to push around his opponent before using devastating uppercuts and brutal sidekicks. Pandrekk owns the Kanohi Kaha, Mask of Stamina which allows him to not go tired at any point when in battle. While mostly a brooding being, Pandrekk is also light-hearted. He enjoys looking out for those who cannot defend themselves. He usually tries to threaten those through his immense size, and will only resort to violence when provoked. When the opportunity comes, he likes a fair fight, unless dirty tricks have been already played. He is also very spiritual, believing in the nature of the Great Beings, preferring to meditate in his cave

Quote:
