I finally decided on this image for today's theme after taking pictures of thermostats, my tri-pod and my grandsons toy car etc. Happy MM!
December, 1980, film scan.
This was back in the day, a day when there were no CDs, computers, or mp3s. Just LPs and tape carts. The DJ (that's me) would cue up the next record by matching the end of one with the beginning of the next, similar to what is still done today at some clubs. We knew how to create the carts and promos, splice promo tapes, patch in live telephone calls, create seven second delays, and even operate the transmitter. To achieve this level of mastery one had to have enough technical knowledge to pass challenging FCC (Federal Communications Commission) written tests and then wait for approval. I took mine in a federal building on Varick Street in New York City.
And that's the way it was.
Hello there! I hope all is well! TGIF!! Happy Friday my friends! Let me start off by saying I love this build. It has a beautiful touch of glamour to it. The walls, flooring and Staircase. THE staircase. Superb. Featuring kraftwork + [ kunst ] at The Epiphany Event with the Vintage Radio Station Gacha key. This set is really detailed. Decorating this space in the evening really made for a nice mood. I wanted to capture that feeling and share it with all of you. Full details and credits are on the blog. Feel free to have a look! Thank you so much for the support and I wish all of you a blessed day! xoxo <3333 Ebony Cyberstar

Back view of Gebouw A (Building A) also known as Radio Kootwijk or The Cathedral.
This 1920-1923 concrete art deco building was the main building of a vast radio transmitter site with the main purpose of keeping contact with the former Dutch colonies, specifically the East Indies.

KRTS 93.5 FM - Marfa Public Radio - housed in a circa 1930s Spanish Mission Style Sinclair Gas Station building. Started broadcasting 2006-2007.
Got a three-fer here. KZBR-FM (rock/pop), KALQ-FM (Country) and KGIW-AM (pop, soul and CBS Radio programs). KGIW 1450 AM began broadcasting in 1929, making it one of the oldest radio stations in the west.
We went hiking at Point Reyes National Seashore, a national park in northern California, about 1.5 hours drive from San Francisco. The cypress tree tunnel is a gem to visit. There are not many people during the week, but it can get crowded on weekends.
I processed a paintery, a balanced, and a realistic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

We met Poe - owner, operator, and main DJ of WABG Radio The Awesome 960 AM in Greenwood, Mississippi - on New Year's Day. We had been driving by and stopped at the station when Poe invited us in to chat and say hi. We stayed for over an hour, talking about the struggles of a small radio station, what we'd learned on our trip and life in general. J and Poe had some shared contacts in Denver and before you knew it, we had both recorded promos for the station. Poe graciously played them (and a special couple tunes) while we were driving off that evening.

Radio Kootwijk arose as a result of the building of a shortwave radio transmitter with the same name, starting in 1918. The transmitter played an important role in the 20th century as a communication facility between the Netherlands and its then colony of Dutch East Indies. In 1923 Dutch PTT started trans-oceanic telegraphy using a longwave transmitter (a 400 kW high frequency alternator) from the German Telefunken company under the callsign PCG, on 24 kHz and 48 kHz. By 1925 the longwave transmitter was changed by a shortwave tube based, electronic transmitter which had a much better performance due to the better propagation of short waves. With this new technology, in 1928 a radio-telephonic connection was established. At the end of World War II, the forces blew up the transmitter. Afterward some of the radio towers were rebuilt.
Architect William Fox of Missoula, Montana, designed the Streamlined Moderne station for KPRK radio located just outside of Livingston, Montana. The building dates to 1946. The stylized radio tower above the front entrance is reminiscent of something straight out of a Buck Rogers comic strip.

The other day, my husband and I took the dog out for her afternoon constitutional...we noticed that the sky was full of high clouds and figured that there was probably going to be some nice color at sunset. As soon as I finished dinner, I decided to run out and see what I could get.
I'd been meaning to try to shoot this old defunct radio station for a while. The sky did not disappoint! Too bad about the fencing, but I'm way too lazy to try and clone it out.
The little gray building behind the radio station is the "Fully Alive Community Church." Is this to distinguish it from the Undead Community Church...or to make sure those who are only partly alive don't come to service?
Did you ever thought about what is floating around in your dreams? And what is withstanding over time, guiding your way through the fog of life?

This shot of GCHQ communications station at Bude, Cornwall, has taken a long time to achieve and a lot of planning and organization. Firstly, permission needed to be sought to photograph at the station perimeter at night and then the images needed to be security vetted and approved for publication. I STRONGLY ADVISE that you do not photograph near the perimeter at night without the knowledge and permission of the station security.
It is a composite of sky and foreground all taken on the same night within 300m of the base perimeter. The sky was a stack of 8 images with a Samyang 14mm and the foreground are taken with a Canon 50mm 1.8 STM. The blending of the two images took some considerable time.
The image may be used during the GCHQ Centenary Year celebrations.

The former splendor of the vault at 88.7 WNHU, University Of New Haven. It's been systematically dismantled, sold off, and pillaged and probably is a station management lounge with Ikea couches now.
The station began broadcasting as WLIQ in 1961. The call letters were changed in 1980 to WPCY. The call letters changed again 1981-1984 to WIXO. In 1984 the call letters changed one more time to the historic WMOB, one of the oldest call signs in Alabama radio. (The original WMOB began broadcasting 1939.) The station is located on
the US-90 Causeway in Mobile. WMOB ceased broadcasting in 2020 and is for sale.
Sadly - the operators decided to cease transmission from this studio, and indeed to cease tx at all! So it has now been sold off - and exists no more - ah well :) - I leave my original comments below - but clearly most of them now have no foundation.........
I built this studio (even the woodwork!) - and I programme music on the Internet 24/7/365 - a mix of oldish stuff which I like (Beats playing CDs!) and some recent stuff - No DJs - just back-to-back music with the sparodic jingle to help transitions..... (no Rap - and nothing to set your nerves on edge! - this is "ear candy" according to ME - god its good to be the programme boss!)
Tune in and let me have your comments - For PC you'll need Winamp - which you can get on the site. Mac users can listen using iTunes. All of this is done as part of TTV - a Luxembourg cable TV company - which I freelance for.
Best with Broadband - otherwise you could find the audio skips due to buffer problems - this is down to the fact that we send out a very high quality signal.
Once you have loaded the Sunshine Radio stream and it is playing via Winamp - you can continue to surf the net - Winamp will keep streaming the audio until you stop it.
I welcome proposals for the playlist - perhaps your choice will get aired - so make it a good one!
I stumbled upon an illustration I created well over seven years ago. This concept was one of many presented to a local radio station.
