RCAF Station Alsask was conceived in 1959 as part of the CADIN/Pinetree Project. Initial clearing and grading of the land began in the summer of 1961. Construction commenced soon after and was completed in December 1962. On 1 November 1962, RCAF Station Alsask was officially established. The long range radar unit, 44 Radar Squadron, was operational and took over the newly constructed station in early 1963. Equipment at the station included the FPS-107 Search and the FPS-507A, FPS-26 and FPS-6X Height Finder radars. The site was declared SAGE-Operational in May 1963 at which time the entire station was declared operational within the 24th NORAD Region.
The station was later known as a Canadian Forces Station in May 1967. In the fall of 1983, the ROCC concept was introduced to replace SAGE. In August 1984, both ROCCs Canada East and Canada West (Alsask came under Canada West) were declared operational.
Alsask carried on with their assigned duties until they were disbanded on 1 August 1987.
Alsask OPS site was taken over by the Canadian Civil Defence Museum Association/Archives(CCDMA) June 1 of 2018. The CCDMA is restoring the tower to its original state and finally after all these years are allowing tours for the general public.
Greater kudus tend to bear one calf, although occasionally there may be two. The pregnant female kudu will leave her group to give birth; once she gives birth, the newborn is hidden in vegetation for about 4 to 5 weeks (to avoid predation). After 4 or 5 weeks, the offspring will accompany its mother for short periods of time; then by 3 to 4 months of age, it will accompany her at all times. By the time it is 6 months old, it is quite independent of its mother. The majority of births occur during the wet season (January to March). In terms of maturity, female greater kudus reach maturity at 15–21 months. Males reach maturity at 21–24 months.
In the 1930s, McDowell Grove was a camp for the Civilian Conservation Corps - a work-relief program part of President Roosevelt's New Deal legislation - which built bridges, picnic areas, a boathouse, bridle paths and a limestone dam on the West Branch of the DuPage River. During World War II, the site served as a secret installation for developing radar technology.
Today, the 465-acre McDowell Grove Forest Preserve in Naperville is comprised of mature woodlands, open fields with eastern bluebirds and Cooper's hawks, and a floodplain forest with towering butternuts and black maples. It's recently been the site of a dam- modification project, which will return the stretch of river to a healthier, more natural waterway and improve aquatic habitats.
I captured this image of the radar tower whilst photographing the Tall Ships Regatta.
Radar Upgrade Improves Protection of Thames Barrier.
The Port of London Authority (PLA) has completed the latest stage in its radar upgrade programme. The installation of a new, state-of-the-art unit on its communications tower at Beckton, East London helps with co-ordination, control and safety of shipping through the Thames Barrier.

4th January 2015 - Another take on the Radar station at Seaforth Docks
This was taken on the same evening as the previous shot, just with a totally different editing technique..

Abused & Abandoned Jungle Dogs.
Mr Boney Baloney in the jungle with Pumpkin Pie.
His Radar Ears and pointed nose give him
the look of a Lear Jet ready for takeoff.
And that my friends is exactly what
he did at Mach 1 speed flying
over the jungle foliage.
So here we are, the whole world in lock-down.
Pumpkin Pie & Boney Baloney like 4 us to be home.
They can keep a closer eye on us at all times now. ;-)
So I let my mind travel back in time to where & when
this dilemma all started. With the epicenter being
just a stones throw north of us and all ! Right ?
Envision a poor hungry peasant from Wuhan
wandering down the road where he spots
some road kill. A rat, a cat, a bat doesn't
matter as his family is hungry and is in
desperate need of any kind of food.
Now unbeknownst to him within
weeks the entire worlds
economy is free-falling.
Borders are shut
an panic starts.
Sun Tzu would be proud.
The Art of War 4 Dummies.
Now I could be wrong, like way wrong.
It's real hard to put the tooth paste
back into the tube at this point.
Like so many others, we are just keeping our
heads down low and waiting out the storm.
And yes we are also wishing good health
to everyone, no matter who you are ;-)

Alright listen up, here's a funny story.
Our niece just returned from the store
and told us this story.
The list had 17 items on it. Of those 10
were available. Of the 10, 5 were low
cost brands nobody wanted but she
figured they were better then nothing.
Now there was only 2 loafs of bread
and those were white bread. I only
eat wheat bread. But again 2 white
loafs were better then none. She
turned to pickup a bag of rice and
turned back & a man had grabbed
the bread out of her basket and was
running away. He quickly looked back
at her but kept scurrying away like a rat.
She rolled her eyes and shook her head.
No# 1 and I said maybe he
had a big family to feed &
needed the bread for them.
After she was done at the store she
stopped at the dog clinic and
picked up two injections
for Pumpkin Pie .
Life is good ;-)

Another World - The Radar Station mini-series. Nearly done :) One more to come then time to move on ... for now.
[ES] No ha sido hasta mi cuarta visita a San Francisco cuando he conseguido encajar una visita relámpago a Baker Beach, para contemplar una de las mejores vistas del famoso Golden Gate.
[EN] I had Baker beach on my radar for a long time, but it wasn't until this last 4th visit to San Francisco when I could fit a quick stopover to see one of the finest views over the Golden Gate.
4th January 2015 - Trying a different post-processing technique for a change. I would be interested to know peoples thoughts and maybe idea's about how I can do this differently.
Confidence is a must
Cockiness is a plus
Edginess is a rush

This is basically a 2 for 1. My local LUG is having its own version of Iron Builder. The seed part that got chosen through vote was the 2 x 2 round plate with the octagonal bar frame. This is my entry for that and it’s also my rover for Febrovery, which I have wanted to participate in for a while.
