Today, Thursday April 12, 2012, we at the Carl A. Pescosolido Library of The Governor’s Academy joined libraries across the Commonwealth and the nation to provide a “snapshot” of what happens in a day in the life of libraries. Here are just a few glimpses of what takes place at the PeskyLibrary.

Books in this display:

The Expanded Quotable Einstein ... Alice Calaprice (ed.)

100 Selected Poems ... e.e. cummings

...stands for 'sexy and reliable.' yesterday, at strategic workshops for the arts organization i work for we had to group and title sets of values. one of the sets was focused on stability, but calling it such seemed dry and boring. i suggested 'sexy and reliable' and it became the quotable quote of the weekend. i think i might make it my personal brand. maybe print it on some t-shirts or something. i mean, that's ultimately what we're all looking for, right?

Facebook Stories:

Facebook has had a lot of really negative press lately. But you know

what? They are the folks who really "made" social networking a

household concept. They are using that expertise to restore their

reputation. Standard marketing - get people to say something quotable,

and then promote the stories that you really like. We are working on

some similar marketing in some other places I work with.

Here is your chance to help Facebook, if you wish to do so. Tell a

story about a situation in your personal experience in which Facebook

made a difference for good. Get your dot added to the map. If you

don't write a story but you are using Facebook, maybe take a moment

and think about why? Why are you still there? Here are the topics

they've pulled out as highlights from other people's reasons.

TOPICS:

Causes, Celebrities, College, Communities, Crime, Fighting, Education,

Family, Friendship, Government, Grief, Health, Lost and Found, Love,

Military, Movements, Music, Natural Disasters, Parenting, Peace, Pets,

Politics, Religion, Rescues, Reunions, Small Business, Sports, Support

As the quote says – Description

While author Oscar Wilde is famous for writing many quotable things, this is not one of them. This quote can actually be attributed to unrelated actress Olivia Wilde, who said it in a 2012... - #Celebrity

Notable and Quotable American Women from the World of Philately

For some odd reason, I find this funny.

You for whom I have looked so hard without ever finding. You for whom I have longed for, called after, without ever seeing you come, you who are always present without ever existing --- I am writing to you now. You who are basically only myself, but a much bigger and more noble self, a self far from me, as real as the whole distance between the dream and the reality ... You are my thought, I am your realization. An image carries you and your large open wings.

--- Marianne Werefkin

For my favorite Flickr group, Flickr Group Roulette's "A Fish Called You" day. Oh yeah, and gold stars have to go to two of my favorite FGR guys, Run Strong and Northshoreleo for having some great quotables! :)

"Wait, it's April Fools Day? Holy crap! I stopped using the Gregorian calendar back in mid-September and adopted the Fuggorian calendar (how often the world revolves around Clem). Today was just fish-lips day to me..." --Run Strong

Oh no.... *Oshin back to being a regular man's best friend, northshoreleo back to being a normal boring dude* --Northshoreleo

I think this came from Michele Perras. It was her description of the XPLANE method.

Boston sports figures have always been eminently quotable. This is one of the opening galleries in the Sports Museum's exhibition entitled VICTORY. Open now at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Erin Sidney (aka Syd), Patrick Thomas and Lisa Piccirillo are each experienced touring and recording artists with self-released albums and a thick portfolio of singer/songwriter accolades. Each has performed showcases at prestigious music festivals, opened for national acts, maintained rigorous touring schedules and received plenty of quotable love from the press. In the Fall of 2010 they came together in a lakeside cabin to form Hotels & Highways and record what would become “Lost River”, a folk-tinged meditation on the deeper meaning of living and a love letter to the spirit of collaboration.

At a crucial moment of quiet intensity, the members of Hotels & Highways heard the wind rustling the trees in their headphones. For any other project it would have been an unwelcome signal to cut the take short and try again when there was golden silence. Instead, the three newly-committed band members smiled at their good fortune and carried on playing, the wind and trees now indelible partners in the song's performance.
