9/30/2010: Image and color profile P17 of a source H.264 mp4 file prior to editing. The video image is a TIFF screen capture taken while playing the file in QuickTime 7.5.5 Pro on a Vista-32 machine. The color charts are generated by Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
Changing transparency settings to "Straight Alpha" results in an improved image profile compared to the standard QuickTime and RealPlayer settings (slides P14-P16). There is little noticeable difference between the source file and EE4 mp4 output file when viewed in QuickTime Pro "Straight Alpha" mode (see slide P8). Therefore the loss of contrast is likely a result of player-specific codecs and color management.

The whole installation is controlled by a video signal. Upload a Quicktime movie to a webserver and the system (a Max/MSP/Jitter patch) parses it into commands for the matrix of LEDs. We played a few videos I had prepared but I didn't get any photos of the pretty ones -- just this one. I needed proof. After all, how many people can say that they've fucked a cafeteria?

In QuickTime Pro the image appears pale and washed out with a similar color and luminance profile as displayed with QuickTime and RealPlayer SP (see previous slides P6 and P5, respectively).

11 October 2024 02:38 BST. It was a cold windy night outside.
This the full 17 seconds video - the previous one combined only some of the images. It had been my first attempt at making a time lapse video and uploading it.
Time lapse from 111 JPGs taken at 5s intervals.
12mm lens, 1/3s, f/2, ISO 6400. The aurora display was changing too fast to capture at 1/3 second, so the rays look wider that they were. Also I should have taken the images at a smaller interval than 5 seconds.
Batch edit to 4x exposure and resizing with Photoshop. Effectively ISO 25600 - I didn’t attempt to reduce noise, and reduced images to 640x427 px.
Video compiled with Quicktime Player 7 at 6 frames per second.
