10/3/2010: Video playback comparison in Windows Media Player 12, VLC Media Player, RealPlayer SP, and QuickTime on three computers. Images are TIFF screen captures representing a source file and encoded output from Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Pro. Rankings represent relative image quality from best (1) to worst (4). Luminance waveform charts were generated by Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
The highest quality video was produced by Windows Media Player 12, VLC Media Player 1.1.4 on a Vista-32-Pro computer, and Realplayer SP (VC-1 wmv files only). H.264 mp4 playback appeared pale and washed out in RealPlayer SP, QuickTime, and QuickTime Pro (default settings).
The same video has different color and luminance characteristics when viewed in different media players. Therefore the pale, washed out appearance of H.264 mp4 video is likely a result of player-specific codecs and color management.

I've implemented Conway's Game of Life using HTML5 Canvas and JavaScript (and a little ajax+php in order to save each frame).
All the resulting frames were combined into an mp4 using Apple Quicktime.

Tests for using GLSL Shaders in TIFF output for printing
This is a quicktime loop of a 12 frames garbed by the 12 fps engine on the A77. the light is too low for a quality shot but these are fun to grab.. hopefully by spring with longer days and chicks to feed I will get better opportunities and replace these.

A slightly better attempt at the time lapse photography. I mounted my Canon Powershot S95 on a GorillaPod on the dash of my car then drove around long enough to take 1308 pictures (using, again, a rubberband and an eraser). Used QuickTime Pro to compress it to 1 minute, 27 seconds at 15 Frames Per Second.
My new little camera is so fun. It has a short movie feature and I accidentally took this moving footage of Nik while I was playing with the camera the other day. The sound is so clear and it was totally dark when I took this. Can only show you the screen shot, but the movie plays on Quicktime on my desktop and it's so cool, I can't stand it and am afraid I'll keep filling up flash cards with (literally) movies rather than pictures.
Originally included on the CD “Infopedia 2” (Macintosh version) from SoftKey Multimedia, Inc. Converted from QuickTime file format to AVI, encoded with PNG, since ffmpeg doesn’t seem to copy the palette when copying the original (QuickTime Animation/RLE) palettized video data from the source file.

9/28/2010: Image and color profile P1 of a source file prior to editing. The video image is a TIFF screen capture taken while playing the file in Windows Media Player 12 on a Win7-64 machine. The color charts are generated by Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. The charts from upper left going clockwise are YC Waveform (signal intensity; chroma not shown), Vectorscope (color hue and saturation), RGB Parade, and YCbCr Parade.
The following slides show the same video encoded with VC-1 and H.264 codecs using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Pro. The output files were viewed in four different media players (see following slides P2-P12).

I took 18 different photos at 20 degree intervals in photo travel mode in Gran Turismo 4. I then used QuickTime VR Authoring Studio to stitch the panorama together and generate the QTVR file.
