Paris' Latin Quarter <3 We roamed this area by foot immediately following our red eye flight into Paris. Much of this walk is a blur for that reason.
Hiroo (広尾) est un quartier de l'arrondissement de Shibuya à Tokyo, situé entre les quartiers de Shibuya, Ebisu, et ceux d'Aoyama et Azabu de l'arrondissement de Minato. C'est dans ce quartier, et plus particulièrement celui d'Azabu (麻布?), que se situent de très nombreuses ambassades, dont l'ambassade de France.Proche de quartiers cosmopolites et très fréquentés, Hiroo est un quartier résidentiel, aisé, aux rues tranquilles. J'ai accompagné mes anciens élèves du collège Reynerie voir leurs photos "Portrait de quartier", exposées dans le cadre du festival de photo amateur MAP 2011.
Ces photos avaient été prises en 2009-2010 à la Reynerie, lors du projet "Portrait de quartier" réalisé avec l'association toulousaine Terres nomades (terresnomades.net). Les élèves étaient alors en 5eme.
Nous marchons.
Nous découvrons la beauté d'une œuvre collective — deux classes de 5eme, au départ — qui a continué de vivre, grâce à Terres nomades, jusqu'à cette exposition.
Je découvre que, l'air de rien — ou de pas grand chose : un prof et ses élèves, quoi de plus banal ? — on a fait un bout de chemin ensemble, les élèves et moi, qui nous a grandis.

Vendeurs de mangas et figurines, magasins d'électronique, mais aussi rabatteuses habillées en soubrette ... un quartier bizarre qu'on a moyennement apprécié

I had taken this shot previously as an evening blue hour shot but looking at photographers Ephemeris I thought it would make a good dawn shot as the morning light hits the front of the Quartier 1 tower. Sunrise on 24th December was 8:20 the shot was taken at 7:39 2 minutes after Civil twilight start (sun 6 degrees below the horizon. The Shot was taken from the Victoria hotel car park which has an elevated position over the Dual Carriageway and bride in the foreground and enables the river and path alongside it to provide a leading line to the tower. Although I took 3 bracketed shots and did a HDR merge the summated shot uses the a single JPEG image. (Note I had recently bought a new camera and usually shoot in RAW but had managed to inadvertantly change the settings to JPEG) Lesson for the future I think
I took the shot at 59mm focal length F10 ISO 100 and 13 seconds which I wanted to use to capture light trails of rush hour traffic in the foreground. I took several exposure with and without light trails and elected to use the ones with light trails as the White trail (very bottom Right) Red Trail along the bottom form nice diagonals that are replicated by the Bridge in the middle ground a second bridge just infant of and to the left of the Quartier one tower and these lines continue as horizontals up the hill formed by the buildings to the left of the tower
The original composition has had a 4x5 crop applied as the trees to the right added no real interest and it enables the light and the holiday in sign to provide interest on the left boundary.
Several filters have been applied in post processing
1 Grad filter to make the foreground darker as it has little interest but that enables more prominence to be given to the White and Red light trails.
2 Radial Filters applied around 2 strong floodlights to reduce their impact by reducing whites and highlights
1 Radial filter on the river where the exposure was raised slightly and the colour temp was reduced by -30. This makes the river slightly more prominent and helps provide a leading line to the Quartier Tower.
1 x Radial filter on the front left of the shot in the car park of the holiday inn. There were some cars that added distracting clutter to the photo. By reducing the exposure whites and highlights around this area most of the cars are not visible and it makes the shot simpler.
1 x Radial Filter - There is a building with a tower to the left of the Quartier Tower - its the Old town hall its historically and architecturally interesting. I slightly raised the exposure and raised the white balance to make this building more visible
Finally I used the adjustment brush in several ways
1 To reduce the exposure on the sky to make it a deeper blue and darker
2 - to brush over the Quartier tower and the blue building and the building with the triangular side - I slightly raised the whites +50
