The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Science Bowl® is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. Middle and high school student teams from are comprised of four students, one alternate, and a teacher who serves as an advisor and coach. These teams face-off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format, being tested on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and math.

Argonne National Laboratory shipped the 30-year-old Advanced Photon Source (APS) magnets to Brookhaven and Jefferson Lab, where they will be re-purposed for use as part of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a state-of-the-art particle collider being led by those other two labs and that will be built at Brookhaven.

During the Quark Tank event, Jefferson Lab’s research stars deliver inspiring pitches aimed at captivating the hearts and minds of the national lab community!
Jefferson Lab’s local National Lab Research SLAM competition is a short-talk competition in which postdocs and early-career scientists are challenged to present a compelling one-slide, three-minute presentation on their research that a non-specialist can understand.
The winner will compete in the national event on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., in spring 2025, when contestants from the 17 national labs will educate U.S. government policymakers and their staff about the key role our labs play in the nation’s innovation ecosystem and their impact on the nation.

The Technology Commercialization Internship Program (TCIP) is a unique paid opportunity for undergraduate STEM and business students to experience the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE's) world-class National Lab system, boost their entrepreneurial thinking, and explore energy technology markets.
Interns have the opportunity to engage with National Laboratory mentors and learn about technologies at their partnered Laboratories. This internship focuses on the business side of technology commercialization where interns will learn skills such as customer discovery, value propositions development, and market sizing. Interns apply these skills to their assigned technologies at their host lab.

A group of lab scientists, technicians, mechanical designers, engineers, scientific users and students are building a new electron calorimeter in Hall A. Known as ECal, the apparatus is a detector for a nuclear physics experiment that will allow scientists to better understand the internal structure of the proton.

The Sarfan Food Forest is a 5-acre parcel of land located in Downtown Newport News that is currently being transformed into a food forest intended to address food scarcity in the area as well as promote native species and pollinators and enhance wetlands. Sarfan is located within a disadvantaged community and will not only promote environmental benefits but community connection as well.

Several years in the making, the liquid nitrogen dewar for the End Station Refrigeration 2 (ESR 2) arrived on the lab campus. The ESR 2 system will feed cryogens to Halls A, B, and C, and it will replace ESR 1 by adding additional capacity to support the MOLLER Experiment.
