For his residency at Art in General, Heman Chong created Common People and Other Stories, a project inspired by Quantum Leap, a short-lived American science-fiction television program about an imaginary physics experiment gone awry and its consequent ethical dilemmas. Chong took the stories of Sam’s travels and expanded them by bringing them into the context of Art in General’s ground-floor Project Space, which used as a studio as well as a venue where visitors may see the ongoing development of his new work. There, Chong explored the often humorous narratives and serious moral underpinnings of Quantum Leap. He also explored the aspects of the TV show that have caused it to become an underground craze as it touched on a range of gripping themes such as the order of the universe, family drama, nostalgia, coincidence and a seemingly sentient supercomputer named Ziggy.

Art in General assists artists with with the production and presentation of new work. Founded in 1981 by artists Martin Weinstein and Teresa Liszka in the General Hardware building, it has emerged as one of New York City’s leading nonprofit arts organizations. Housed in a six-floor building, at 79 Walker Street, Art in General has a gallery space dedicated to rotating exhibitions of contemporary art. The gallery is located in the building’s 6th floor, and is approximately 2,000 square feet. Art in General’s second gallery is a storefront space located at street-level. It was donated by Gerry Weinstein, CEO of General Tools, in the fall of 2003. This storefront gallery is approximately 600 square feet. The building’s 4th floor houses Art in General’s dynamic office area. General Tools, Inc. occupies the rest of the building.

Where do you go for brunch when you want pancakes? Quantum Leap! ...well, it's a good choice for pancakes. I never heard of this place but happened to take a menu when I passed it one day. It's small but thankfully my group of 6 fit in the back. :)

Sorry this photo sucks but I decided to use my brother's camera today instead of mine. Wasn't very used to it, I guess. :\ He gave me a quick run through on how to use it but I forgot a lot of it, HAHA...um.

Oh, as you can see, this is one huge pancake. On top there's strawberry, blueberry, banana, pear, apple, raspberry, some fruit jam, and whipped cream. Mm!

The Quantum Leap Darwin memorial, a complex concrete sculpture resembling a huge twisted spine, installed beside the River Severn in Shrewsbury in 2008. It was designed by Ranbir Lal of the Pearce & Lal architectural practice.

He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own time was maintained through brain-wave transmissions with Pete, the project observer, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Optimus Prime can see and hear. Trapped in the past, Optimus Prime finds himself leaping from life to life, putting things right that once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next Leap will be the Leap home.

Okay...Leaps can be quantum too !

Quantum Leap was a smashing sci-fi series that ran from the late 80's to early 90's. This is my take on me being Dr Sam Becket in mid leap..." Oh boy ! "

Shot info:

The shot of me was easy. Mug for the camera. Put the pic in Photoshop. Invert the image, then play around with hue and saturation.

The background flare and lightning effects I did yesterday. As I had not tried making either before and did not know how long it would take to do them.So after I took my shot today, I just added it to the previously constructed effects in PhotoShop.

Both the lightning and flare effects were brilliant fun to learn and created from scratch in PhotoShop. If you have PS have a go your self, you'll be amazed how easy it is ! At the bottom of the post I have put the links to the You Tube tutorials on how to make them.

Although I love the TV show Quatum Leap, it pales into insignificance next to the show Automan. It only ever run for 12 episodes...but such episodes !

Automan is a prime example of something being so absolutely and totally awful that it actually becomes wonderfully brilliant. The acting and scripting make T.J. Hooker appear almost Shakespearean in comparison...but that was Automan's charm.

My favorite bits were when Walter Nebicher ( Automan's creator ) was in trouble he could step inside Automan's hologram and not come to any harm. "What's so good about that" I hear you cry. Well that meant there was only one actor on the screen, but the guy who plays Automan, because the other charecter has been subsumed inside him, ends up having what is essentially long conversations with himself as both charecters ! You have to see it to believe it.

Go to You Tube now...go on...and watch it ! It is unbeliviably awful and fantastic at the same time.

Anyway...here are the links to the flare and lightening tutorials.
