Flight 7Q 460 parked at gate 4 after arrival from Melbourne, Florida (MLB.) N92EA previously flew for Air Nostrum as EC-IKZ, in Iberia Regional colors.
Minimal effort to get started with the Macroblock MBI5030 PWM LED driver. Comes with onboard LEDs, but can still drive external ones. All pins broken out. Only needs a microcontroller and a high-frequency grayscale clock. An AVR running at 16MHz can use its CLOCK-OUT pin for the latter. The chips 'speaks' an SPI-like protocol. Unfortunately some information is encoded in the timing of the LE input, so one cannot use fast hardware SPI for the hole transfer. The special sequences must be bit-banged. Nevertheless it is a rather affordable chip and does mostly what it should. There is an issue with the datasheet(s) that can be found on the web. The older ones document functions that definitely are not implemented in the current silicon.

The PmodMAXSONAR is a single-transducer ultrasonic range finder that uses the MaxBotix® LV-MaxSonar®-EZ1™. Users can measure how far away an object is with an accuracy within 1 inch to over 20 feet away. Information is sent in a variety of ways including UART, PWM, and analog signals.

Being able to do individual PWM is a small bonus and performs sufficiently at night. Still the main function of the board is to uniformly light up LEDs with the same color, which gives much higher brightness. That way 6+1 combinations of (R,G,B) can be used.

Quad op-amp wired sequentially as oscillator (frequency set by VR17), square-wave generator (with breakout testpoint), triangle-wave generator (with breakout testpoint) and comparator with voltage reference, making a voltage-to-PWM converter. The voltage reference pot doesn't need high-value resistors on either side, but this (and the similar bias for U1C) is the largest power draw in the whole circuit so having them reduces the power it uses. I added a connector between the Vref pot and the comparator so you can use an external input to set your duty cycle. This is intended for the current-limiter above: using a cheap opamp as a comparator is a bad idea for most applications because it has slow slew and would leave a FET in its active region for far, far too long and allow it to overheat.
V- is 0 volts, V+ is 5-15 volts.
