The Pushkar Fair, or Pushkar ka Mela, is the annual five-day camel and livestock fair, held in the town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is one of the world's largest camel fairs, and apart from buying and selling of livestock it has become an important tourist attraction.
November 2008 - For an early morning workout I ascended the mountain trail leading up to Savitri Temple. More than 400 pilgrims died in stampedes on similar temple trails at two other locations in India in 2008. After making this trek it became apparent to me how easily these temple trails can become deadly. Add energetic teenagers running to the top then back down, with elderly visitors barely able to crawl to the top, then often resting in the middle of trail on the way down, to a steep, rocky, narrow trail, and you've got a recipe for disaster when crowds swell.
