One of the holiest sites in India, Pushkar is a laid back town surrounded by hills on three sides on the desert border. Also known as the ‘city of temples’, Pushkar is one of the oldest Indian cities housing over 400 ancient temples.
Pushkar was one of my favorite places
As we got off the bus we were literally mobbed by Indians trying to get us to their guest house
I went with a couple of young German students I talked to on the bus to a guest house on the lake, where we all ended up sharing one room
my initial reaction to this place was: it's a small dirty lake, I'll be here for 5 minutes and I'm gone!
I woke up early in the morning, got myself a pot of chai and sat in the cold morning breeze on the rooftop over the lake...
first I noticed the mist covering the other side, than I noticed all the birds... suddenly I heard chanting from the ashram and drums.... drums for the people coming to this holy lake for the morning puja ritual
I ended up doing the same thing every morning
Walking around on the Pushkar Camel Fair in India is absolutely an overwhelming experience. Once you are surrounded by thousands of camels and their traders it is as if you have entered another world. There are so many beautiful animals, bright colours and interesting faces that you just don't know where to look. But when you get a little used to the chaos, you will find plenty of amazing photo opportunities.
