This picture was a purchase from a nautical shop in a bunch of old nautical pictures for sale. Nothing on the back, but the date, 9-17-1937.
She is the second newbuild for the Virginia Ferry Corp (VFC) for the crossing of the lower Chesapeake Bay between Cape Charles and Little Creek. Built in 1936 at Sun Shipbuiding & Drydock Co. Chester, PA. Designed by Naval Architect George Sharp and well known Designer Raymond Loewy who gave her the modernistic look on the superstructure and upper hull. Her dimensions were the same as VFC's first newbuild the SS DEL-MAR-VA, LOA 260'X59'. Powered by two Skinner Uniflow quadrupole expansion steam engines, 1400 HP each. In 1946 the VFC removed most of Raymond Loewy's design. On the boat deck, the entire superstructure was removed and a new one built with crew spaces and a raised wheelhouse with bridge wings. In 1954, at Baltimore Shipbuilding, she was cut in two and a 90' midsection added bringing her LOA to 350'. She was the first of three VFC vessels to be lengthened. All three gained a knot in top speed. With the opening of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, ferry operations stopped. Five of the seven vessels were sold to the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA) for a new crossing between Lewes, DE and N. Cape May, NJ. Renamed the SS NEW JERSEY she sailed with them until 1973 when she was sold to a failed ferry venture between Greenport, NY and New London, CT. Renamed the SS GREENPORT, she made some excursion voyages from Providence, RI. Tied up in governmental red tape, the new ferry venture was not approved. Later the GREENPORT was drydocked in Middleton, RI for possible dieselizing where she was dropped during the drydocking process. Damage sustained to her bottom was her final blow, now becoming shipyard property, she was allowed to sink partially and was used for a warehouse by the shipyard. Palm Beach County , FL was looking for a ship of her dimension for an artificial reef off shore. In May 1993 she was sunk as the MV PRINCESS ANNE, this is in error as she was still a steam powered vessel and not a motor vessel.

Only half of the trims are in this picture i won the whole lot on a ebay auction for £17.52! Pretty much stole them at that price theres a lot of amazing caps here lots of rare ones! About 40% are universals but i can sell those as pairs or sets

The restored clock of the Central Terminal building. The terminal which closed in 1979 had been through the hands of many owners which sold off light fixtures, iron railings, signs, the clock, etc. during the 1980s and 1990s. In 1997 the terminal was acquired by CTRC (Central Terminal Restoration Company). The clock was location in 2003 by volunteers who went to Chicago to see it in 2004 & eventually purchase it through a generous grant of $25,000 from M&T Bank and fundraising by WBEN radio. The clock sat for 4 years in the M&T Bank headquarters until it was later re-installed in the main concourse of the Terminal in 2009 for the buildings 80th birthday. Standing 15 feet tall under the nearly 60 foot high ceiling of the concourse, the clock tower has been a meeting place for many travelers throughout this amazing facilities lifetime.
I paid a winter visit to this cemetery today. In my quest to photograph all of Attleboro's cemeteries, I'd been putting off this one, as it seemed rather mundane from the road. However, as aficionados know, just about every cemetery rewards a visit,and this was no exception. The snow and clouds combined to form some nice winter vistas as well..
Recently purchased from Heritage Coaches (theSussexBus.com) is this rather smart looking Volvo. It is one of three examples of the vehicle type that SussexBus owned, but it is the only one I currently understand that the Rotala PLC have purchased from them.
Diamond's PO58 KPU (30494) is seen parked outside Redditch's Church Road (engineering) depot. It had arrived at Redditch the previous day. All it needs now before it can enter service is a side destination display, which will make it DDA Compliant. This is now the second example of this vehicle type within the Rotala fleet, the other being sister vehicle PO58KPY (30408), which is currently in use at Tividale depot. PO58KPU (305) was new in October 2008 as one of six of the vehicle type ever made. The others being KPV (306), KPX (307), KPY (308), KPZ (309) and KRD (310). All six were new to Kent County Council, Aylesford (Kent Top Travel), where they were used on Canterbury Park & Ride services. When they were sold, PO58KPU, PO58KPV, PO58KPX and PO58KRD were all sold to The Sussex Bus, where they gained their standard red livery. PO58KPY was sold to the Rotala PLC, for their Diamond operation, while PO58KPZ was sold for scrap. I currently don't know what will happen to the three other former Sussex ones, and I hope that KPY will move to Redditch to operate alongside KPU because it wouldn't make sense to have two odd vehicle examples not operating out of the same depot. They are Volvo B7RLE/East Lancs (Optare) Esteem's.

Fitted with a meniscus lens (fixed focus), a rapid rectilinear lens or Anastigmat lens. The shutter is the Kodak ball bearing shutter with variable speeds up to 1/100 second. Capable of taking twelve exposures 2 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches on No. A 116 autographic film cartridge. Added features included a folding bellows design, automatic focusing lock, reversible finder, two tripod sockets. Priced at $11.00 to $18.00, in 1916 depending on lens-shutter combination.

Borneo is well known for its sunsets. This is one of the many self explanatory shots here on Flickr. Taken over the Likas Bay, opposite of the beautiful City Mosque in Kota Kinabalu, of which I'll post some photos later. Have a nice day, particularly if you celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
Likas Bay, located some 5 minutes north east of the city centre, is a scenic bay with a distant view of the Crocker Range and Sepangar Bay in the distance, with the shoreline of Universiti Malaysia Sabah visible. Likas Bay is a stop for migratory birds as a large portion of it is mangrove swamps and in fact, the beautiful and long Tun Fuad Stephen Road along this bay was not following the actual shoreline of Likas Bay. The actual shoreline was right behind All Saints Secondary School. It might then take around 3 - 5 minutes by a car to get from one side of the bay to the other. There is a public park here, where locals like to throng during the weekends. All along the seaside, some are seen fishing. The bay is planted with majestic royal palms which line the main highway, and aplenty of coconut trees sway at the seaside. The western end is known as Tanjung Lipat, where one can have a clear view over the old ports and Signal Hill on the other. The most noticeable landmark along this bay is Wisma Perindustrian while there are The Peak & The Peak Vista on Signal Hill.
I purchased my first, solitary, bee hotel in the spring of 2018. It was quickly discovered by Mason and Leafcutter bees and by the end of the first summer, I had almost "full occupancy." The bee hotel was placed on a shelf in the garage for the winter to protect the developing larvae from sub-zero temperatures. The following spring, it was placed back on the front porch in the same location near the garden where the bees forage. Unlike, honey bees, solitary bees only travel a few hundred feet from where they emerge. I added a second bee hotel during the early summer of 2019 and both hotels had nearly "full occupancy" by the end of the summer of 2019 and again in 2020. It has been amazing to observe the female bees go back and forth from the garden collecting pollen, cutting bits of plant material or gathering mud, then returning to the bee hotel to begin the egg laying process. Once they choose a “nesting tube” they crawl to the far end to begin. The female bee places her provisions, pollen with some sticky nectar that she rolls into a ball, then lays a single egg on the top. Next, she seals the egg into a “cell” with mud or leaf material (depending on which species she is) and repeats this process until the tube is filled the whole way to the front. One female solitary bee can lay about 5-15 eggs depending on the length of the tube. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae feed on the provisions, then form cocoons, and don’t emerge until the following spring. Each year, I would bring the bee hotels out from winter storage, but missed their emergence in 2019 and 2020. However, on March 31, 2021, our first really warm day, I happened to look out the kitchen window, which faces the porch and noticed a swarm of small bees flying around the bee hotels, the porch and even resting on the aluminum siding of the house. They were warming themselves in the sun! I was able to determine that these were all Mason Bees because the bees that were emerging were all breaking through the tubes that were sealed with mud. I observed the male Mason bees fly back to the nesting holes to check on whether the female bees were emerging. The males could apparently detect where the females were and would remain on the bee hotel, to attempt mating as soon as a female came out or would even enter the tube to mate before she emerged. At times, several male bees would pile onto the female, fighting to mate with her, often falling to the ground. As each new bee made its way to the opening of a tube, their tiny faces could be seen peering out from the tubes. Each emerging bee would cautiously come to the edge, clean their antennae with their feet, quiver for a moment, then take their first flight! Since the weather has turned cold again and there aren't many flowers yet, the bees are staying inside. On the intermittent warm days, they emerge to work on cleaning out the tubes, as evidenced by bits of dried mud all over the porch, just below the bee hotels!
As of the time of this posting, the Leafcutter Bees have not emerged, as the holes are still sealed with the plant materials used. This photo series was taken over two hours and is only a small portion of the total number taken of the amazing event.

One of my favorite places and pictures from the Seville visit. Being pretty lucky with places and weather, I was so disappointed by the gloomy day which met me in Seville, so mostly I was walking along the streets, went to the Plaza de Espana and started to move to the one of the most famous architectural points - Tower Giralda. I had a lot of plans for photography there, but can you imagine my frustration when I arrived there it was closing! Just one minute ahead! The strict guardians dont let me go even for 5 minutes to the orange trees garden! Shame on them!

La Giralda, the bell tower of the Cathedral, is the most famous landmark in Seville. The tower was originally built at the end of the 12th century as the minaret of a large mosque built by the Moors.
Construction
In the 12th century the Almohades, who dominated the region, built a new great mosque in Seville. Construction of its minaret started in 1184 under the lead of engineer Gever, who designed an ingenious structure with two separate load-bearing walls connected to each other via an internal ramp. Construction of the minaret was completed in 1198.

Stones from ancient Roman monuments were used to build the tower. At the foot of the Giralda one can still find inscriptions dating back to the era of emperor Augustus.
The Giralda
In 1356, after the reconquest of Seville by the Christians, much of the mosque was destroyed by a large earthquake. Only two parts of the original structure survived unscathed, the Patio de los Naranjos (a courtyard) and the minaret. The rest of the building was replaced by a Gothic cathedral.
The name of the tower - Spanish for weathervane - stems from the large vane at the top of the belfry, known as giraldillo. The large statue, depicting Faith, shows a woman in a classical Roman attire, holding a shield in the right hand and a palm in the left. The original vane is now installed near the entrance of the cathedral at the Puerta de San Cristobal.

On a trip to the Smoky Mountains, we left one evening and stayed in Corbin, Kentucky overnight. After checking in to the hotel, we drove the 20 miles to the West to see this waterfall during a full moon. This is the only place in the Western Hemisphere that produces a moon bow (a rainbow cast by the full moon). This specific night was cloudy so we had no luck, but we'll be back.
