Above the summit of punta di Valrossa, Rotentalhorn in German, 2.968m (9,737ft), on the western border between Italy and Switzerland.
This mountain stands between Formazza valley (Italy) and Bedretto valley (Switzerland), near the Novena pass (Nufenenpass), where Ticino river, the long river that crosses the omonimous region of Switzerland and a large portion of Northern Italy, passing through lake Maggiore, springs from the beautiful snowy capped mountains.
The view here is toward SW. In the far distance, from the left, Monte Rosa, Punta d'Arbola, the summits of Lagginhorn and Fletchhorn, the Mischabel group towering above Lake Sabbione green waters, Punta del Sabbione and the snow capped Blinnenhorn. The closer ridge, on the right, is Gries horn.
Sopra la cima della punta di Valrossa, Rotentalhorn in tedesco, 2.968m, al confine occidentale tra Italia e Svizzera.
Questa montagna si trova tra la valle Formazza e l'alta valle Bedretto, vicino al passo Novena (Nufenenpass), dove nasce il fiume Ticino. E' una delle cime più frequentate dell'alta Val Formazza, grazie a un percorso ben tracciato. A inizio stagione, come in questo caso, può tornare utile avere un paio di ramponi, essendo il lungo scivolo che porta sotto il colle occidentale di Valrossa e il traverso che porta sul pendio terminale a sud ancora innevati.
La vista qui è verso SW. In lontananza, da sinistra, il Monte Rosa, la Punta d'Arbola, il Lagginhorn, il Fletchhorn e il gruppo dei Mischabel, sotto ad essi il lago e la Punta del Sabbione, e, infine, la cima innevata del Blinnenhorn. La cresta più vicina, a destra, è invece il corno del Gries. .
