Konni is an important town on the Muvattupuzha-Punalur route. It is about 11 km from the district headquarters. Konni assembly constituency is part of Pathanamthitta (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]
The lush green land has been prominent as a haven of wild elephants and as an elephant training centre. The large area of thick forest with wild animals has now made Konni emerge as another tourist spot for safaris and trekking.[citation needed] In Kerala there are two elephant training centers, the other located at Kodanad.

The Sengottai-Kollam line is planned to open for traffic on 30/03/2018 , 8 years after train services were on September 2010 to facilitate the gauge conversion work of 49.2-km Punalur-Sengottai section.
The 13 Arch Bridge is a 112–year–old bridge. The bridge consists of 13 arches and is a major landmark on the Kollam-Sengottai railway line (Commisioned in the year 1904) as well as a testimony to the architectural abilities of the British. The bridge connects two hillocks and stands on thirteen granite pillars each almost a hundred feet tall.
