The whole of East anglia is kept dry through systems of pumps that feed in to rivers that drain the water into the sea. But there's also another strategy - increase the capacity of the drainage dykes around the fields. What you see in this panorama are some drainage dykes, and on the left hand side of the image is a crane. This crane grabs reeds and other debris that are cut in the dykes (either by chains used to "saw" them free from the roots, or someone wades in and chops them when the water is lower...) and hoists them onto an old cart. The cart is then (presumably) towed out so the reeds can be recycled (maybe???).
The bridge has a lot of character, and acts as a good focal point for the image.
Ended up at the pump room at Clarke Quay . nice booths with muted lighting, a live band etc. the live band that was playing that nite was Jive Talkin’ and they play quite a nice array of songs, most which are familiar to us.

Took the kids to ride the Chambersburg pump track with Larry and Oliver. Ended up staying for the annual Christmas parade as well.
The pump has two types --- horizontal single-acting and double-acting. The diaphragm separates the slurry pumped from hydraulic chamber, effectively increasing the service life of plunger (position) and packing. The diaphragm rupture signaling device prevents metered and hydraulic fluids from intermixing in case of diaphragm rupture. Under all operating conditions, the rupture of the diaphragm is reliably signaled. With appropriate wiring, the pump may be shutdown. The system remains leaktight even in case of a diaphragm rupture.
Single, duplex, and triplex diaphragm pumps are available. Capacity ≤800 m3/h, max. working pressure ≤25 MPa, slurry temperature 200, particle size 8 mm, concentration ≤75%.
According to individual customer requirements, safety valve, damper, check valve, circulating valve, diaphragm rupture signaling device, and control panel can be supplied in full set.

Initially, the polder was drained by wind. The first pumping station for the Veenpolder was built around 1865 and worked on steam power. In 1925 a move to electrical power was made..The redundant chimney was demolished a few years later. In the years 2004/2005, the original pumping station was renoveted and regained its chimney in 2007 The pumping station Echten is a national monument.

The sign is on the Eagle Vaults public house on the corner of Pump Street and Friar Street, formerly Needlers Street.
Needlers Street suggests that the residents were either users or manufacturers of needles. Either way the first attribute to the name was in 1299. The Medieval Trade Guild at Redditch became dominant and the local manufacturing of needles gradually ceased and by 1880 the street was known as Pump Street.
