Utahsadventurefamily.com: Chimney Rock is not a hiking destination, but a road-side pullout with a trailhead. You can easily see Chimney Rock just by driving by. However, we enjoyed the 3.6 mile loop that takes you into the small canyon behind Chimney Rock. This hike is steep, which is the reason we label it as moderate. It starts out with the first third mile climbing nearly as steeply as a staircase. The overall elevation gain is 590 feet. About a half mile into the hike, the trail splits. There is a sign directing you to the right to follow Chimney Rock Loop Trail. However, you’ll see this sign again because the loop starts here. To the right, the trail climbs to the ridge.

We stopped at a small pullout just before Honolua Bay, and got a great view of a beach which I am pretty sure is DT Fleming Beach.
Looks like an amazing place, but Honolua was the destination we were looking forward to on this day.
You can check out our travel blog to read about our trip to this amazing island:

These snow-covered spruce trees were along the Parks Highway at the pullout where I took this picture. This is near a little highway town called Healy where we didn't stop. I don't know who owns all the land here along the highway, whether it's the town of Healy or the Borough or Denali National Park. It might be oil company land. It might just be ... land. You can have that in Alaska, I think, though I don't know how common it is along a road.
I'm still thinking my political thoughts, of course, and I can't stop thinking about those trees. Trump pulled the trigger on his dumbass voluntary trade war with Canada, and is using the fake emergency he invented around it to wreck all kinds of environmental protections Republican morons have hated for decades. Part of this involves a plan to clear-cut 280 million acres of Forest Service land -- pretty much the entire Forest Service -- to make up for the sudden increase we in these not-at-all United States are about to see in the price of lumber. That by itself is an area 2/3rds the size of Alaska and twice the size of Texas, and it will include places that I love very dearly. It will no doubt wipe out stands of forests I love in Colorado and in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The trees in this picture will probably be okay, though.
I'll go up to Michigan and take pictures when they start cutting the forests down.
Mile 48 is the roadside pullout to access the trail to the cabin.
The Alaska Huts Association is refurbishing the old Manitoba mining cabin. Back in the '70 & '80s the Nordic Ski Club used to use the cabin as a base hut when skiing Manitoba Mountain. It's been in disrepair and locked up for over 20 years. We're bringing the cabin back to life as a mountain and ski hut, plus adding two 16' yurts for sleeping accommodations.

We stopped at a pullout near Carpenter Lake and got out of the car for a pee. I was in midstream when she came dashing back up the bank saying "There's a bear in that tree RIGHT THERE!". It's kind of hard to stop peeing midway through but I managed.
Make sure you disconnect the electricity before working on the water heater. A pullout switch allows the homeowner to disconnect the power to the water heater without heading to the fuse box (which in my case is nowhere nearby).

I loved the effect when more atmosphere is put between you and the subject. In the case the seastacks go from dark to light as the distance increases. In addition the long exposure adds the blur at the bottom of the stacks as the big waves pushed through.

Cassiar Highway, BC. July 2013. Almost every pullout along the Cassier Highway offers a beautiful view. The lonely highway in westerrn British Columbia is one of the few land routes to Alaska. Services are few and far between, but there is a photo op at every pullout. The challenge is to take a bad picture.

From a pullout on Scenic Byway 276 this is the eastern face of Looking Glass Rock. Twisty and turny, but oh so beautiful, 276 runs up and over the Blue Ridge between Brevard and Waynesville, NC. See more at Internet Brothers Hiking Logs and Gallery.
