Proverbs 16:9

A man's heart plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps.

אני קיבלתי רק חלומות באספמיה

Proverbs 19:27 (MSG)

If you quit listening, dear child, and strike off on your own, you'll soon be out of your depth.

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:

Not specified in Bible reference; daytime.

LIGHTING NOTES:

Sunlight, coming from the left, is the main source of lighting in this scene.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:

A woman on the right of the scene is standing next to a sign (which represents knowledge).

A man starting to walk away from the woman & sign, with his eyes closed, not looking where he is going. He represents a person beginning to stray away from knowledge.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:

This is my very literal version of the proverb. Clearly the man is heading into trouble, as he has not noticed the cliff edge & deep water below it which he is stepping towards! Another visual clue that he is heading into trouble is the approaching rain storm from the left.

I have used brush textures on the woman’s dress, which is something I haven’t done before. You may be able to make out a cross pattern on the waist part & hems of her dress.

I took some photographs whilst on a holiday in County Durham. The cliff rock is actually a small piece of rock I photographed on a walk!

The problem with not listening to instruction is that a person is then not longer learning. That’s what Proverbs 19:20 (only a few verses earlier) states: “Listen to advice and accept correction, and in the end you will be wise.” Clearly becoming wise & remaining wise is not a state that you arrive at; rather it is an on-going condition. We need to continue to gain knowledge & experience, which increase our wisdom.

Interestingly, Proverbs 19:27 is the only place between Proverbs 7:1 & 23:15 where the words “my son” occur.

Bible References.

Here are some other Bible versions of this particular Proverb, which gives a slightly different emphasis on it:

Proverbs 19:27 (NLT)

If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will turn your back on knowledge.

Proverbs 19:27 (ANIV)

27 Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.

Proverbs 19:27 (BBE)

27 A son who no longer gives attention to teaching is turned away from the words of knowledge.

Proverbs 19:27 (NCV)

27 Don’t stop listening to correction, my child, or you will forget what you have already learned.

Pleasant words are as an honeycomb,

sweet to the soul and health to the bones.

Oh Lord:

If my mouth should open this day

Let it be to bless someone

For there is enough heartache in the world

So let me be a blessing, or don't let me

say anything at allllll...!!

Proverbs 3-13 on south side of Wichita North High School at at 1437 Rochester.

North High was built in 1929 and is decorated in an Native American theme. Designed by Glen H. Thomas and cost $1,285,000. Glen H. Thomas also designed Minisa Bridge, educational buildings and many other commercial buildings in Wichita. It is the second oldest high school in Wichita.

To have the world spinning on one's thumb (to have the world in the palm of your hand).

My mom would have loved this. It has almost been one year since she passed. Bluebonnets were one of her favorite Texas wildflowers.

While out looking for some good patches, I cam across this small field of them. I took the photo, thinking about my mother.

She lived her life by the passage from Proverbs 31. This photo is dedicated to her.

8/365. Proverbs 3. Two of my favorite books of the bible are Proverbs and Wisdom. Mostly because they are short passages my attention span can handle them. But also because they contain some of the best advice to live a good life. Kindness. Trust. Peace.

A happy heart makes the face cheerful but heartache crushes shes the spirit.

I think I've experienced this, so it's true.

Proverbs, book in the Bible, has a potential of becoming my favorite book in the Bible.

What's your favorite or potential favorite book in the Bible?

While staying on the river they fished some. One morning Jerry made his way out to a rock in the middle of the river. I took my camera and looked through an opening in the trees. Three copies of the same photo are layered in this shadow box. I used fishing lures, hooks, weights and line. I also used twigs--there is actually fishing line hanging in the tree. The Biblical quote is from proverbs and it is about being sturdy as a branch.

The last photo I call Proverbs 12:11. “He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.”

"Where there is no counsel, plans fail;

but in a multitude of counselors they are established."

Proverbs 15 verse 22

The Myth of the Rugged Individualist is one of the biggest enemies of joy, success, and mental health. It is the idea that we're supposed to be self-sufficient. A more accurate assessment of history reveals that there is always (and we mean 'always') an ensemble of people gathered together to create something great. Einstein sparked off other great minds - he wasn't in isolation. I'm certain Elon Musk doesn't think alone and most certainly doesn't rely upon himself to action his innovations. St Peter was the one upon Jesus built His Church but St Peter was not alone.

This is one of the strengths of a 'Congregational' approach to Christian Life. We are here to be counselors to one another - to give good counsel. And in diversity, we find strength.

Next time you find a friend a little too serious, realise that they bring uniquely 'sensible' counsel to move your plans forward. And the next time you find a friend a little too silly, realise that they bring their own unique energy to the party.

Above all things, remember to seek and ask for counsel in putting your plans together. We can guarantee that other people will always bring something different with their perspective.
