Who you gunna call?
Weathering created by rubbing on black spray paint (it dries instantly this way) and then sanding off with a coarse sandpaper. Very basic method but looks surprisingly accurate.
...I got there in the end. I'm sad to see this one go off to eBay (eBay UK if you're interested, plug, etc), but it's funding bigger things.
Again, mostly clean. There was some deliberate texturing and scratching on the body as I was going for a realisitic "just made" look, but in the end I didn't really like it. That was a waste of a lot of primer.
The labels are generally ok, would have preferred to have printed them on something closer to the real thing but I had no idea what to use.

One of the main missing pieces, the acrylic tube sits in various custome machined aluminum collars. You can barely see it, but the little light on the "ear" top centre of the picture is glowing.
A combination of many layers of paint, sanding, buffing, splattering paint, powdering, scratching, and finally, a layer or natural dust.
More metal weathering. It all has to be simulated as aluminum is generally pretty clean, and doesn't rust.
I made these metal-looking labels by layering labels printed on transparencies over brushed aluminum-looking contact paper commonly used as shelf liner. The result is a shiny label!
