'Evet', said the white-bearded Turkish gentleman -ak sakallı dede -, 'evet'; 'yes, flowers are good for the heart', I understood him to say. And he shuffled away over the muddy path.
So at home i went to Google to look up daffodils or narcissus and Islam. There's a large literature in the East about flowers and plants in prose and in poetry as well.
But I was searching more specifically for my bulb-friends. Almost immediately I hit upon a quote attributed to the Prophet: 'If a man has two loaves of bread, let him exchange one for some flowers of the narcissus; for bread only nourishes the body, but to look on the narcissus feeds the soul'. For various reasons, it seemed to me that this quote - in circulation perhaps 150 years in the western world - must be apocryphal. Moreover, I couldn't find any reputable source traceable to either Quran or Hadith.
I carried on and saw that somtimes 'daffodil' or 'narcissus' is replaced by 'hyacinth', and that others claim the quote goes back on Abū-Muhammad Muslih al-Dīn bin Abdallāh Shīrāzī's, Gulistan (Rose Garden), middle of the thirteenth century CE. But I couldn't find that citation there either.
Anyone out there in Flickrland in the know? Please tell me.
Regardless, my heart danced with this Late-Winter Yellow, to half-quote someone.
Al-Masjid al-Nabawi (Arabic: المسجد النبوي "Mosque of the Prophet"), often called the Prophet's Mosque, is a mosque situated in the city of Medina. As the final resting place of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, it is considered the second holiest site in Islam by Muslims (the first being the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca) and is the second largest mosque in the world.
One of the most notable features of the site is the Green Dome over the center of the mosque, where the tomb of Muhammad is located. It is not exactly known when the green dome was constructed but manuscripts dating to the early 12th century describe the dome. It is known as the Dome of the Prophet or the Green Dome.[1] Subsequent Islamic rulers greatly expanded and decorated it. Early Muslim leaders Abu Bakr and Umar are buried in an adjacent area in the mosque.
The site was originally Muhammad's house; he settled there after his Hijra (emigration) to Medina, later building a mosque on the grounds. He himself shared in the heavy work of construction. The original mosque was an open-air building. The basic plan of the building has been adopted in the building of other mosques throughout the world.
The mosque also served as a community center, a court, and a religious school. There was a raised platform for the people who taught the Qur'an.

A selection of books in the Kings Library Tower within the British Library, London.
The story of Prophet Muhammad's first encounter with Angel Gabriel reads as follows: One day while meditating in the cave of hira in the hills overlooking the city of Medina, he heard a voice call out Iqra (read). Shocked, surprised, unaware of where the voice came from he responed, "I cannot read". He then felt a tight hug, then the voice again said Iqra. Again, he replied, "I cannot read" - after all, in that period of time very few could read and write, with knowledge be passed in the verbal tradition. The same happened again, after which Angel Gabriel said:
"Read, in the name of the God who created. Created man, out of a mere clot of congealed blood. Read and your Lord is Most Honorable. Who taught man to write with the pen. Taught man that which he knew not. "
This important message, of education, of learning was pushed throughout the Muslim world, so much so that S.P. Scott, speaking of the Muslims (Moors) of Islamic Spain wrote:
"At a time when even (Christian) kings could not read or write, a Moorish king had a private library of six hundred thousand books. At a time when ninety-nine percent of the Christian people were wholly illiterate, the Moorish city of Cordova had eight hundred public schools, and there was not a village within the limits of the empire where the blessings of education could not be enjoyed by the children of the most indigent peasant, ...and it was difficult to encounter even a Moorish peasant who could not read and write."
We must all read, learn, educate ourselves and understand. Any by that, I'm not referring to the TV Guide :)

Not a day passes without a flashback of these places. Not a reminiscence goes without reliving the urge to go back again and again insha Allah.
Over 2 million Muslims will prostrate toward the direction of this House and see it for themselves over the course of next 10 days insha Allah. Their Host is none but their Creator – the Almighty of the heavens and the earth – the One Allah ‘Azza wa Jal.
May Allah Sub’hana wa Ta’ala guide and help His guests, fill their hearts with righteousness, accept their good efforts, forgive the conscious and the unconscious errors, and grant them all the Hajj Mabroor, for which His Messenger (ﷺ) has taught us, “there is no reward except Paradise”. (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 933)
These 10 days are of enormous significance for those who are not going to perform Hajj too, which can be understood from the words of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), “There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days.” When his companions asked at this, “Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah?” Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) replied, “Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah, unless a man goes out with himself and his wealth and does not bring anything back.” (Ibn Majah book 7, Hadith 1799).
Allahumma a’inni ‘ala zhikrik, wa shukrik, wa ‘husni ‘ibadatik. Amin.

I know a man who lost his parents but refused to be called an orphan. He was man enough to love a strong woman years older than him, worked for her and made her stronger, opened his heart to her, shared his fears to no one but her.
He was
romantic and was faithful to her till her last breath. Cleaned after himself and sewed his own clothes. He was good looking, courageous and fearless
. He never judged anyone on their pasts or looks, and was moderate, open minded and tolerant.
Beaten and exiled when he was helpless, he was merciful when he became stronger. Intelligent, wise and a hard worker, he built a long lasting nation out of nothing in the last 20 years of his life. He had no parents, but loved his daughters and grandchildren. His last will was "Be good to women".
This man was a mercy for all mankind, this is my #ProphetMuhammad Peace be Upon Him! ♥

Details about Mourning of Muharram -
The Mourning of Muharram is an important period of mourning in Shia Islam, taking place in Muharram which is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It is also called the Remembrance of Muharram (Arabic: ذكرى محرم or مناسبة محرم). Many of the events associated with the remembrance take place in congregation halls known as Hussainia.
The event marks the anniversary of the Battle of Karbala when Imam Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, and a Shia Imam, was killed by the forces of the second Umayyad caliph Yazid I. The event is marked by arranging 'majalis' (gatherings) to review Islamic teachings and to commemorate Imam Hussain's sacrifice. The mourning reaches its climax on the tenth day, known as Ashura, on which the forces of Yazid killed the 72 individuals who fought, including Imam Hussain, his family and supporters. The women and children left living were made prisoners and transported to Yazid's court in Damascus.

THE VIRTUE Of SAYING BISMILLAH.....
The Holy Quran starts with the sentence “بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم”. It means that “In the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the eternally merciful.” This formula has an important impact on the life of a God-believing person. A person, who believes in God, should start all of his tasks by pronouncing the name of God.
A person starts a task on the basis of some support. That support might be the intellectual and physical capabilities of person, it may be his/her wealth, it may be his/her friends and companions, or it may be the favorable circumstances. Quran requires a person that (s)he should base his/her tasks on the help of Almighty God. Therefore, Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ واٰلہ وسلم said that any task without pronouncing Allah’s name remains blessing less.
Uthman bin Abu al-As Al-Thaqafi reported that he made a complaint of pain to Allah's Messenger (SAW) that he felt in his body at the time he had become Muslim. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (SAW) said: Place your hand at the place where you feel pain in your body and say in the name of Allah three times and seven times I seek refuge with Allah and with His Power from the evil that I find and that I fear. [Muslim 2/280]

Sayyidna el-Hussein Mosque (Arabic: مسجد الإمام الحسيننا الحسين), built in 1154, is located next to the Khan El-Khalili bazaar. This makes it one of the most popular and most visited mosques in Cairo.
It is one of the most sacred Islamic sites in Egypt, and reputed burial place of the head of el-Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Bread sold here is believed to have a special blessing and alcohol is prohibited.
Three mechanically operated, square shaped umbrellas set in a row in front of the mosque, once open, cover a total area of 750 sq. m. The height of the umbrellas is 12 m, and they provide shade for worshippers who gather to pray outside in front of the mosque on the plaza.

Thursday March 20th 2008 is the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, who, Muslims believe is the last in a line of Prophets including Abraham, Jesus and Moses, peace be upon them all.
In my understanding the geratest message all of the Prophets taught was the belief that there is only 1 God and that while we live in this life, fulfilling our duties to our Creator and our fellow human being must be done with sincerity, kindness and above all happiness. So share the Joy Joy happiness (guess who recently watched Demolition man :p)

Islam is the only religion and philosophy which does not discriminate human beings on the basis of race colour and economics.
Islam gives due respect to labours , farmers and working class. Prophet Muhammad SAW always led a simple life and never tried to lead a lavish life. he always worked hard like simple people.
Majority of the organizations which are raising slogans in favour of labour class have political motives but Islam does not support working class for political reasons. Prophet Muhammad SAW told his ummah that workers are loved by Allah swt.
A Hadith Of Rasool Allah SAW say AL Kasib Habibullah which means hard worker is friend of Allah.
Bilal, Sumayyah, Zunairah and Khabbab R.A were beloved companions of Rasool sal laho aliehi wasalam despite their poverty and these great names are source of motivation for all Muslims till the end of the world. so we should not be feared to work hard and should respect those labours who works hard.

On Dr. Martin Luther King memorial day, it is worth noting that Lord Buddha advocated human equality more than 2500 years ago, dismissing and refusing to recognize social structures which hold individuals down. He accepted all students regardless of caste or gender or other differences.
Buddha is quoted as saying "Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule."
As human beings It must be difficult to change.
500 years later Lord Jesus Christ put it this way "As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
By being simply honest with ourselves, open hearted, and willing to change as individuals we can look at our own prejudice and remove what ever they are, simply by watching our own minds. Setting ourselves on dismissing those thoughts and deeds as incorrect that do not align with the advice great beings who have come before us have given, going back in history beyond human memory.
There must be something even more to loving each other that we can not even yet imagine. Otherwise how could love and compassion be such a radical idea thousands of years after these great ideas have been recommended and even insisted upon by the foremost to ever live?

It is said:
A Brahman saw the Buddha meditating by the River. He engaged the Buddha in conversation.
"What caste are you? Asked the Brahman.
"Caste is irrelevant." Said the Buddha.
"How so," said the Brahman, "surely you would agree that Brahman and royalty are of considerable worth whereas peasants and commoners are not?"
"Caste and riches matter not," replied the Buddha, "it is one's conduct that matters."
"How so," said the Brahman.
"In that fire comes from any type of wood so can a wise person come from any caste. It is through the knowing of truth that one becomes noble not through caste. The noble one is the one that doesn't cling to unworthy attachments. The noble one realizes the true way that things are, he no longer thinks of himself as a self and thus has gained clarity."
"You are truly wise," said the Brahman.

His Holiness Younus AlGohar answers a question from a viewer who asked, ‘It is said that man is the most eminent of all creation. However, we see that Jinn are so powerful that they can dominate a human being and manipulate his thoughts and emotions. How then is he the most eminent?’
Main points:
- Human beings do not know their reality; they think their body is their reality. They do not know the potential of their soul, and whether or not their soul is even awakened. It is the soul that will be judged on the Day of Judgement, not the body.
- There are many types of Jinns. Some are Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Jews. Some Jinns are Companions of Prophet Mohammad, alive even today.
- Human beings think they are the best of all, but they do not know that they have to make themselves eminent with the knowledge God gave. If all men were eminent, why do they cause so much bloodshed and rape? Why did God create hell?
- The only eminent ones are those who have awakened all their souls and become the master over them. The souls in the human body, when enlightened, enable man to travel beyond this realm. With enlightened souls, he holds the keys to multiple realms. At this stage, no Jinn can dominate him; in fact they would show him great respect.

'Ashura is a religious observance marked every year by Muslims. The word 'ashura literally means "10th," as it is on the 10th day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic year. 'Ashura is an ancient observance that is now recognized for different reasons and in different ways among Sunni and Shi'a Muslims.
In the year 680 A.D., an event happened that was a turning point for what was to become the Shi'a Muslim community. Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, was brutally murdered during a battle against the ruling Caliph -- on the 10th day of Muharram ('Ashura). This took place in Karbala (modern-day Iraq), which is now an important pilgrimage site for Shi'a Muslims.
Shi'a Muslims observe the day in mourning for Hussein and in remembrance of his martyrdom. Reenactments and plays are performed, attempting to relive the tragedy and keep the lessons of this event alive. Some Shi'a Muslims beat and flog themselves in parades on this day, to express their grief and to reenact the pain that Hussein suffered.

His Holiness Younus AlGohar, at the request of a viewer, explains in lengthy detail the true meaning of Chapter Yaseen from the Quran.
Watch the video here:
Arba'een or Chehelom (Persian: چهلم, Urdu: چہلم, "the fortieth [day]"), is a Shia Muslim religious observance that occurs 40 days after the Day of Ashura. It commemorates the martyrdom of Hussein bin Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad which falls on the 20th day of the month of Safar. Imam Husayn and 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala in the year 61 AH (680 CE), killed by Yazid I's army. Arba'een, or Chehlom, is one of the largest pilgrimage gatherings on Earth, in which over 15 million people go to the city of Karbala in Iraq.
The occasion reminds the faithful of the core message behind Husayn's martyrdom: establishing justice and fighting injustice, no matter what its incarnation—a message that strongly influenced subsequent Shi'a uprisings against the Umayyad and Abbasid rule.
