I probably shouldn't be exposing this typo, as it was the only thing that went wrong at the fabulous Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE) workshop that I attended (Durham, NC 2009)

so heres the story.
i was making these two random sims (will and iris) while listening to "Momentum" by the Hush Sound -i love you bob- and i thought of a new idea for a story. Don't worry, "Viva la Vida" isn't going anywhere. (In fact, I just need to take shots for the last scene and get the edited versions back from the proofreaders) At best "Momentum" will be a short series.
so the lyrics are the really tiny words that i will be very proud if you can actually read, and thats about it.
oh, and i'm very proud of the hair editing in this picture. and will's face. i think i will always be very proud of that.

Today I scanned the service log of my El Camino going back to 1998 (I bought the car in 1996, dunno why it took me so long to start the service log). It was handwritten, of course, as I serviced and fueled the car. Then I asked Google Docs to OCR (that’s a verb now) the scan into text. It did a shockingly good job, considering it was handwritten.
Still, the OCR’d text was a mess. I next asked Claude Sonnet to look at the text and make some sense of it, exporting a tab-delimited table that could put into a spreadsheet. That worked pretty well, too, especially as Claude was clever enough that he would interpolate obscure odometer readings to organize everything properly (odometer readings only go up).
Finally I proofread the whole thing and printed it into a new service log as the original was getting kind of ratty.
Workflow:
1. Copy pages from the log one by one (enlarge while copying) (copies can be seen above);
2. Scan copied pages into a multi-page PDF;
3. Upload to Google Drive;
4. In Google Drive, open with Google Docs for automatic OCR;
5. Copy and paste Google Doc into text file; looks like garbage;
6. Ask Claude to fix it up into a proper spreadsheet;
7. Proofread spreadsheet;
8. Print results.
Google OCR is insanely good, and this would have been an extremely tedious project without Claude Sonnet.
Probably within six to twelve months the workflow above will seem kind of quaint, as by then Claude Sonnet will be able to do the entire thing for me once I copy the pages.

The Plantin Polyglot (also called the Antwerp Polyglot, the Biblia Regia or "King's Bible") was printed by Christopher Plantin in Antwerp (Belgium) between 1568 and 1573.
Plantin was suspected of Calvinist sympathies, although Antwerp at that time was firmly Catholic. He developed a plan to prove his loyalty to the Catholic king Philip II of Spain by producing a polyglot version of the Bible, in five languages. The king promised to finance the project — completing it nearly bankrupted Plantin — and sent the Spanish theologian Benito Arias Montano to Antwerp to watch over the production of this eight-volume of printing, which was printed in 1,200 copies on paper and 12 copies on parchment.
Printing the Bible required thirteen printing presses and fifty-five men to run them, as well as expert linguists who acted as proofreaders.
The first four volumes contain the Old Testament. The left page has two columns with the Hebrew original and the Latin translation, the right page has same text in Greek with its own Latin translation. Underneath these columns there is an Aramaic version on the left-hand page and a Latin translation of this on the right-hand side. Maybe the proofreader was sick the day (week?) the Central Illinois Advertiser was being written, edited and published.
What strikes me as extra funny is that they got it right in the article.

The TTS cartridge goes into the slot on the back of the Laser PC6 as shown -- well, not quite EXACTLY as shown because the PC6 is upside-down in this picture, but you get the idea. It sticks out a little bit when installed but not too annoyingly.
Speech quality is coherent but very robotic (rather like DECtalk). The volume gets loud enough for the voice to be heard reasonably well in small to medium-sized rooms as well, and there's also a headphone jack in case you want to use the TTS feature for proofreading or listening to your notes or text files privately.
Total randomness. Well, not completely. If you can't tell (who could?), it's Romeo and Juliet. I revamped them into modern day. Ok, total understatement. They're not even the same sims. Anyway, I thought of it because my class has to read parts of Romeo and Juliet and it is so boring. This old day english is driving me crazy. I just want someone to go in and proofread it. Geez. I know. I'm weird like that. Anywho, I'm working on a new story! (Not about thses sims) I ditched the old one. I'm currently writing the text on a word document, and I'm doin the words for the picture thats gona be number 20 or something.
