History:
The parish priest, Ivan Mihovil Smrekar who was educated in Graz and in Vienna, commissioned the church in 1758. The citizens of Prelog paid for it with alms. In little over a decade (1765–1767) a monumental three-part high altar – a documented work of the sculptor, Veit Königer, and cabinetmaker, Josip Herman of Graz – furnished the altar financed by Abbot Josip Gradičaj. It is likely that the community were able to engage the outstandingly important sculptor, Königer, because of family connections in Croatia – his sister was married to the Varaždin sculptor, Josip (Josephus) Schranz – after whose death she married the sculptor Leopold Mayrhofer (active c. 1771).
Description:
The high altar, a monumental and typologically rare composition consisting of three altars architecturally connected, is a documented work by Styria's most important sculptor of the time, Veit Königer. His work betrays a clear and persistent element of Classicism, linked to his artistic training at the Vienna Academy, along with Rococo elements. The central altar is dedicated to the titular saint of the church, St. James, while the side altars are dedicated to St. Joseph and St. John Nepomuk. The central part of the Altar of St. James is accentuated by a pair of columns the width of which, on the mensa, a monumental tabernacle is placed adorned with a row of angels. Alongside the columns are imposing figures of the apostles St. Peter and St. Paul, the handling of which draws closely on the sculptures of the same saints on the Altar of St. Ignatius in Graz Cathedral. An imposing Holy Trinity in a sunburst halo crowns the altar. On the side altars, the placing of the ornamentation is more marked, aspiring to the picturesque. This outstanding sculptural achievement was an important stimulus for the leading Maribor sculptor, Joseph (Jožef) Holzinger (1735–1797), an inspiration seen in the disposition of his sculptures on the side altars of the church in Polenšak (Slovenia). A pulpit was installed in the church in Prelog before the altar (1760 is mentioned). According to stylistic analysis, the pulpit reliefs are likely to have been by Königer.

Seen on the placemat at Miss Florence Diner in Florence, Massachusetts, USA, near Smith College. We enjoy honing our proofreading skills by scanning restaurant placemats, while waiting for our meals to arrive. Unlike some errors, this was not a spellcheck issue.
An intersting first novel; Charles is an uptight immigration official with a special unit coping with random arrivals from parallel universes! The whole novel may be set in a parallel universe actually, because the, ah, social arrangements to deal with sink estates, poverty and crime are not as we know them... but some people might like them to be!
The bulk of the arrivals are malcontents and radicals slipping from their own timeline to another, without knowing what awaits them - they may be able to 'slip' again, or they might not. More keep arriving, and a crisis approaches. Can Charles figure things out and find a criminal ringleader of a bizarre inter-timestream sect, or will the psychic turbulence of the slippage incidents he's forced to investigate send him over the edge?
A bit of a change of pace from most takes on parallel worlds - my main complaint is the shoddy proofreading. Odd words missed out here and there, or extra ones not deleted when a phrase was rewritten, etc.

Today and yesterday I've woken up at around 6:30 after going to bed around 3:30 and maybe 2, respectively. The "president" of our "engineering firm" wanted our complete senior design report to him by 9 this morning, and I was the designated proofreader -- not an easy task when you're working with engineers. Finally got editing done along with the rest of my engineering and e-mailed him the full report by 2. After that I needed to get out of the house (I had been in my pajamas the whole day) and went to the mall. Shopping was certainly much-needed. When I pulled into the spot, this car was like IN YOUR FACE, because the front was so... big -- I can't think of a better word at the moment.

For a time, he was a full-time assistant to Christoffel Plantin, illustrating mainly religious books. Adriaen Pietersz. Van de Venne was the son of Flemish parents who fled to the Northern Low Countries. He was a painter, grisaille painter, miniature painter, engraver, draughtsman, poet and publisher.

This is the spacious outdoor seating area near Don’s, the on campus pub which hosts events every Thursday evening. It is a great place to catch up on homework or have lunch on sunny days. The surrounding complex also includes the gymnasium, where many intramural sports clubs (like netball, squash, and basketball) meet during the week for practice.
