Liu Fang Yuan, the Garden of Flowing Fragrance, is one of the largest Chinese gardens
outside China. Designed to create, preserve, and promote the rich and complex traditions of Chinese
culture, this authentic garden is a special place for visitors to feel inspired by the elegant harmony
of nature and poetry. Thanks to visionary landscape architects and artisans from China and the
United States, inspired historians, expert gardeners, and generous benefactors, Liu Fang Yuan
reflects today an exceptional combination of learning and beauty.
A Chinese garden is often compared to a work of art: It is like a scroll painting composed of carefully arranged scenes. As you stroll through the pathways and pavilions of Liu Fang Yuan, new vistas are revealed as if a scroll were being slowly unrolled. In the garden, as in a painting, several key elements play an important part in creating balance, meaning, and beauty in the composition.

As far as I can see all religions promote love? And surely love means caring for everyone. Love is unity, harmony, embracing all. Love is NOT divisive, hate-spewing, and rejective. I know that we humans are not perfect but please let's all make an effort to be inclusive and share so we all get a piece of the pie, not just the chosen few!!! No matter our race, religion, sexual preference, surely we can find common ground to HELP each other regardless of who we are??? If we do, it is a win-win situation if we continue as we are we are only destroying ourselves and we have no one other than ourselves to blame. Love is at the center of family, community, and the world, we just have to find it and if we look hard enough WE CAN FIND IT!
Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

This is a vintage Christmas embossed postcard, copyrighted 1908 by Julius Bien & Co. N.Y.
The postcard features an illustration of Santa Claus with a white beard, wearing a red hat and a holly wreath. Santa is holding a plate with a large, decorated Christmas pudding (or plum pudding).
The text "A MERRY CHRISTMAS" is visible on the plate.
The card number "5004" is printed in the bottom left corner.
Christmas pudding and plum pudding are essentially two names for the same dish: a dense, steamed dessert made from dried fruits, spices, and suet. The name "plum pudding" is an older term. In pre-Victorian English, the word "plum" was used as a general term for all kinds of dried fruits, such as raisins, currants, and sultanas, not the fresh stone fruit we call a plum today. The dish is traditionally prepared weeks or even months in advance to allow the flavors to mature, often involving family members stirring the mixture and making a wish. On Christmas Day, it is usually served warm, doused in brandy, and set alight for a dramatic presentation.
Santa Claus looks excited in the image because, in the context of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, the Christmas pudding was a highly anticipated and significant part of the Christmas feast, symbolizing family unity, abundance, and joy.
Symbolism and Tradition:
A Prized Delicacy: The Christmas pudding was the centerpiece of the festive table and a rich dessert made with expensive, imported ingredients like sugar, spices, and dried fruits that were not everyday fare for most people at the time.
Anticipation and Ritual: The making and serving of the pudding was tied to numerous family rituals and superstitions, such as every family member taking a turn to stir and make a wish, or the excitement of finding a hidden silver coin for good luck.
Culminating Moment: The moment the pudding was ceremoniously brought to the table—often doused in brandy and set alight (flambéed) for a dramatic display—was a moment of great excitement and the celebratory culmination of the meal.
Joyful Imagery: Postcards from this era often depicted a jolly and enthusiastic Santa, as this aligned with the overall joyful and abundant themes promoted by Christmas imagery, a stark contrast to some earlier, more austere depictions of Father Christmas. Santa's expression, therefore, reflects the genuine excitement and shared happiness that the pudding represented to families during the Christmas celebration in the early 20th century.
Twas the Night before Christmas: Even in the iconic 1823 poem that helped shape the modern Santa, the description of his "cheeks... like roses" and "nose like a cherry" has been interpreted by some as suggesting a ruddy complexion from drink, though the modern interpretation is that his jolliness comes from the Christmas spirit, not alcohol.
The tradition of leaving food for Santa Claus has ancient origins in European folklore, though the modern American custom of cookies and milk became popular in the 1930s.
Historical Roots - Ancient Norse Mythology: One of the earliest roots of this practice dates back to ancient Norse mythology. During the midwinter Yule festival, children would leave food, such as hay or carrots, for the god Odin's eight-legged horse, Sleipnir, hoping Odin would stop by and leave gifts in return.
Dutch Tradition: The custom also stems from the Dutch celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas on December 6. Children would leave their shoes out the night before with treats for St. Nicholas and his attendants, who were believed to be traveling long distances, and wake up to find them filled with gifts.
Modern American Tradition - The specific tradition of leaving out cookies and milk for Santa Claus became widespread in the United States during the Great Depression in the 1930s. At a time of economic hardship, parents encouraged this practice as a way to: Teach children about the importance of gratitude and giving to others, even when they had very little themselves. Reinforce a sense of hope and the spirit of generosity during a difficult period. The dairy industry later used marketing campaigns to promote milk as the ideal accompaniment to Santa's cookies, helping to solidify the tradition in American culture.

Boracay is a small island in the Philippines located approximately 315 km (196 mi) south of Manila and 2 km off the northwest tip of Panay Island in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. Boracay Island and its beaches have received awards from numerous travel publications and agencies. The island is administered by the Philippine Tourism Authority and the provincial government of Aklan. Apart from its white sand beaches, Boracay is also famous for being one of the world's top destinations for relaxation. It is also emerging among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife.
White Beach, the main tourism beach, is about four kilometres long and is lined with resorts, hotels, lodging houses, restaurants, and other tourism-related businesses. In the central portion, for about two kilometres, there is a footpath known as the Beachfront Path separating the beach itself from the establishments located along it. North and south of the Beachfront Path, beachfront establishments do literally front along the beach itself.
Boracay was awarded as the 2012 best island in the world from the international travel magazine Travel + Leisure. In 2016, the resort island was at the top of the Best Islands in the World list published by the international magazine Condé Nast Traveler

i thought i'd get some signs and stuff ready to promote the 'It's yours, take it!' street exhibition for which i'm one of the 'nailers'.
as always i got sidetracked and did some free art too
Born from the bowels of the Free Art Friday Flickr Group, "It's yours, take it!" is a global free art project taking place in 5 cities. Stateside we have Chicago,Illinois, Honolulu,Hawaii and Phoenix, Arizona. Outside the land of consumption is Tel Aviv, Isreal and Portsmouth Hampshire, UK.
38 artists are contributing one piece each to these five locations. In place of curators we have "Nailers"... those that will be putting these pieces up at an impromptu outdoor location. The installations will be put up around the last weekend of March, 2008. Stay tuned for previews of finished pieces and complete photographic coverage!
Welcome to the Beacon Theater. Built by the Knights of Pythias (a fraternal order that promotes peace around the globe) in 1926 but Non operational since the early 70's. The top floor though has been renovated for conferences, etc. I want to apologize for the lack of quality in these photos. I was shooting with the camera that I dropped and the viewfinder and lcd screen are both busted up so I didn't really know what I captured until I got it home on the computer. Also,I was working in conditions that were the most filthy yet. If I barely moved I would kick up tons of dust. I had no source of real light to see by as only the hall lights leading into the theater worked. I relied on my camera phone light to see in most instances.(I never claimed to be good at what I do. I just enjoy what I do). I had a blast though. What with hearing organ music playing when I was in a building completely locked up (no organ was in the building by the way)and a door opening and slamming shut. I had quite a time.

I decided I couldn’t hold off much longer sharing the images I shot from #PPC2018. So here is the very first image I shot there on my first day. We all built a gigantic birds nest (a total dream come true for me). I miss it all dearly. I’m almost done editing through everything I shot there- and I don’t want it to end because it feels like the only piece left that’s hasn’t ended yet. But more on that later.

Special logojet promoting 'Star Wars - Galaxy's Edge', the latest movie in the Star Wars franchise, featuring the 'Millennium Falcon'.
Named: "Hot Lips", later "The Falcon" (Sep-19).
Originally ordered by GECAS for lease to Alitalia as EI-CVI, the lease was cancelled and the aircraft was leased to Virgin Atlantic Airways as G-VLIP in May-01.
In May-10 it carried large 'Harry Potter' graphics until Jan-11. In Sep-19 the aircraft was renamed 'The Falcon' and repainted in a Star Wars 'Millennium Falcon' special livery promoting the 'Star Ward - Galaxy's Edge' movie.
Virgin Atlantic were due to start retiring their seven remaining B747-400's from the end of 2000, however the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 caused them to retire the aircraft early. All seven aircraft were initially stored at Manchester, UK in Mar/Apr-20.
They are gradually being moved to Ciudad Real in central Spain for long term storage and lease return. This aircraft ferried Manchester / Ciudad Real on 15-Jun-20.
It was ferried to London-Heathrow and onwards to Marana, AZ, USA in Dec-20 where it was permanently retired.

Latin Name: Centranthus ruber - Red Valerian
A lovely rich pink Valerian growing in an area of our tiered section of garden leading down to our garden river walkway.
Valerian (Valeriana officinalis, Caprifoliaceae) is a perennial flowering herb plant native to Europe and Asia. In the summer when the mature plant may have a height of 1.5 metres (5 ft), it bears sweetly scented pink or white flowers that attract many fly species, especially hoverflies of the genus Eristalis. It is consumed as food by the larvae of some Lepidoptera (butterfly and moth) species, including the Grey Pug and Hummingbird Hawk Moth.
Crude extract of valerian root may have sedative and anxiolytic effects, and is commonly sold in dietary supplement capsules to promote sleep.
