Due to part constraints, I was forced to make some color inconsistencies.
I think my descriptions are usually pretty barren, so I'll insert a summary of the T-70. :D
Much like the classic T-65 X-Wing, the T-70 was mounted with 4 laser cannons on each wing tip, and the fuselage was built with twin launchers that could fire a larger array of projectiles than the T-65.
The major visual design changes are that the four circular intakes are now half circles that form full circles when the s-foils are closed. The wings now close in a scissor pattern rather than being stacked on top of each other.

Mesa Verde National Park is a National Park and World Heritage Site located in Montezuma County, Colorado. It protects some of the best preserved Ancestral Puebloan archeological sites in the United States.
Created by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, it occupies 52,485 acres (21,240 ha) near the Four Corners region of the American Southwest, and with more than 4,300 sites, including 600 cliff dwellings, it is the largest archeological preserve in the US. Mesa Verde (Spanish for "green table") is best known for structures such as Cliff Palace, thought to be the largest cliff dwelling in North America.
Starting c. 7500 BCE, Mesa Verde was seasonally inhabited by a group of nomadic Paleo-Indians known as the Foothills Mountain Complex. The variety of projectile points found in the region indicates they were influenced by surrounding areas, including the Great Basin, the San Juan Basin, and the Rio Grande Valley. Later, Archaic people established semi-permanent rockshelters in and around the mesa. By 1000 BCE, the Basketmaker culture emerged from the local Archaic population, and by 750 CE the Ancestral Puebloans had developed from the Basketmaker culture.
The Mesa Verdeans survived using a combination of hunting, gathering, and subsistence farming of crops such as corn, beans, and squash. They built the mesa's first pueblos sometime after 650, and by the end of the 12th century, they began to construct the massive cliff dwellings for which the park is best known. By 1285, following a period of social and environmental instability driven by a series of severe and prolonged droughts, they abandoned the area and moved south to locations in Arizona and New Mexico, including Rio Chama, Pajarito Plateau, and Santa Fe.

Macro Mondays #Glass
Size of the Moldavite: 2,8 x 2 cm / 1,1 x 0,7 inches
And we know who wins, don't we? Our favourite "grumpies" are always a go-to when it comes to heckling anyone into oblivion, aren't they?
Some of you may recall a similar looking piece of glass from an earlier MM theme: a moldavite I had set as a ring which I had chosen for "Souvenir" (please see first comment). This is another, bigger moldavite, one that would be nice as a pendant, but I like to keep it in my pocket as a "worry stone" or good luck charm (pretty esoteric, isn't it?).
Moldavites, formerly known as "glass meteorites", are a green tektite variety. They were formed by a huge meteorite impact which ocurred about 15 million years ago in the Nördlinger Ries area of Southern Germany. The chemical formula is SiO2(+Al2O3) (Wikipedia). The "Ries impact" was so strong, that the meteorite melted, and merged with Earth particles. This melted and merged material was blown as far as 250 to 450 kilometres (between 155 and 279 miles), before it cooled off and solidified to pieces of green glass. 99 percent of all Moldavites are found in Southern Bohemia.
I thought that this piece of "cosmic glass" would look best backlit. I tried different ways of backlighting, none of which I was particularly happy with, the lights were in the way, too big, visible in the image, until, rather late last evening, it "clicked". I used a small flash light and placed it right behind the moldavite. There were no other lightsources, and it was already dark outside. This worked really well and brought out the moldavite's strange textures / structures in, I think, a really beautiful way. The flashlight still wasn't small enough, so the edges are rather blown out (and I had forgotten to take off the star filter), but I still somehow like the effect. However I guess I will get myself a smaller flashlight for future backlit macros ;-) Shot with in-camera focus stacking and processed in Luminar. All in all I'm very happy how this turned out.
I have busy days at the moment, so unfortunately won't be able to comment on your captures as much as I'd like to. I hope to properly catch up with all of you again soon!
Have A Happy Macro Monday, and a "grump-free" new week ahead, dear Flickr friends!
Wer gewinnt?
T-100 Ogre MBT
--------------------
A high tech medium-heavy tank.
A menacing, destructive heavy weapons platform.
It boasts twin AA 25mm autocannons, ATGM, and coaxial/turret-top machineguns. Seen from the front, the chassis looks like an Ogre, giving it the name it has.
The ATGM is able to target low flying air targets along with armour.
There are two variants: G and K. G employs a normal 125mm heavy tank cannon, while K is equipped with a lower range, high calibre 148mm gun. Both are capable of supermassive destruction.
As with most UT tanks, it features a three-tier protection system.
The first tier is the composite armour. It consists of basic armour shell with an insert of alternating layers of aluminum and plastics and a controlled deformation section.
The second tier is the Kontakt-5 ERA (explosive reactive armor). It severely reduces the blow from kinetic projectiles. They are in the form of blocks on the turret and body or as ERA plates underneath steel outer covering. It results in much better protection than simple steel armour as featured on many other non-UT tanks.
The third tier is a Shtora countermeasures suite. This system includes two IR "dazzlers" on the front of the turret in the shape of blocks, four Laser warning receivers, two 3D6 aerosol grenade discharging systems and a computerized control system. The Shtora-1 warns the tank's crew when the tank has been 'painted' by a weapon-guidance laser and automatically activates the aerosol grenade launchers, effectively jamming the incoming missile. The aerosol grenades are used to mask the tank from laser rangefinders and designators as well as the optics of other weapons systems.
For passive guidance rocket systems, IR dazzlers create a blinding field of infrared light, "blinding" the rocket as it's IR isn't visible anymore.
The Arena active countermeasures suite consist of a computer, incoming projectile warning sensors, and shrapnel launchers all around the tank hull. It detects an incoming projectile, and sends out a stream of shrapnel to meet the incoming projectile. It destroys the projectile while leaving the armour intact.
Powered by a hybrid diesel/electric engine. Fast, has good suspension, and is able to submerge completely into water without leaks. Employs an autoloader.
It has it's own air search radar, allowing it to use autocannons by themselves without external assistance. Range up to 3 kilometer radius.
The tanks are also fitted with nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protection equipment. It includes a mine disabling kit. The EMT-7 electromagnetic-counter mine system is installed: the EMT-7 emits an electromagnetic pulse to disable magnetic mines and disrupt electronics before the tank reaches them. The Nakidka signature reduction suite is also equipped. Nakidka is designed to reduce the probabilities of an object to be detected by Infrared, Thermal, Radar-Thermal, and Radar bands.
A mineplow is attached to the front of the tank, making sure mines aren't a problem.
All tanks are installed with night vision and infrared cameras, with direct feed into screens inside the tank.
The tank fires anti-tank rounds with tungsten cores.

Yesterday it was the sad anniversary, 14 people were killed as the projectile hit the shelter 1944. Five of them were children, age 2 to 14. Some of them were our distant relatives. My mother, who was a young girl and was living in Postira, told me she decided in the last moment to go to other shelter as bombing started.
I dedicate this photo to innocent victims of the wars all over the world. May their souls rest in peace.

This multi-storied ruin, the best-known cliff dwelling in Mesa Verde, is located in the largest alcove in the center of the Great Mesa. It was south- and southwest-facing, providing greater warmth from the sun in the winter. Dating back more than 700 years, the dwelling is constructed of sandstone, wooden beams, and mortar. Many of the rooms were brightly painted. Cliff Palace was home to approximately 125 people, but was likely an important part of a larger community of sixty nearby pueblos, which housed a combined six hundred or more people. With 23 kivas and 150 rooms, Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in Mesa Verde National Park.
Cliff dwelling. The Anasazi ("Ancient Ones"), thought to be ancestors of the modern Pueblo Indians, inhabited the Four Corners country of southern Utah, southwestern Colorado, northwestern New Mexico, and northern Arizona from about A.D. 200 to A.D. 1300, leaving a heavy accumulation of house remains and debris.

DESIGNATION: CT-1807
NICKNAME: Scout
RANK: ARC Commander grade I
UNIT: 1st Recon Detachment, 3rd Regiment of the 253rd Elite Legion
"Six rockets burst from the trees behind me and roared towards the formation of three MSP80 Pteropter craft that were quickly approaching our positions along the cliffside. We had spent the last five standard hours ascending the sheer cliff that made up the northern side of the Trandoshan's mountain fortress. The rockets neared their targets their pink contrails beginning to fade, in a panic the three Trandoshan craft broke formation and attempted to avoid the oncoming projectiles, a futile attempt for the missiles had successfully locked onto their targets, which exploded in brilliant flashes of light their remains plummeting downwards into the jungle canopy kilometers below us. During the Trandoshans aerial assault the rest of the Detachment had abandoned their ropes and had used their jetpacks to quickly climb what few meters were between them and the top of the cliff. Now all seven squads of the First Recon Detachment of the Two Hundred Fifty Third Legion's Third Regiment stood in the clearing along the cliffside. Each squad consisted of nine troopers the yellow and grey markings on their armor designating their specialties, the troopers loading fresh rockets into their Plx-1 launchers belong to Squad Zeta, the detachments heavy weapons and demolitions specialists. They had saved the detachment four times in the last four hours by singlehandedly destroying a total of eight Trandoshan Pteropters. A kilometer north loomed our objective the ancient ruins of a Sith temple the spot where the Trandoshans had allegedly summoned an ancient Sith… I hate force users. The terrain between us and the temple was mostly barren with patches of shrubbery, small trees and rock outcrops providing the only concealment for our advance, our best bet was to hit them hard and fast. Vaulting undergrowth and weaving between rocks, I lead my men in a mad dash for the temples crumbling walls. We were close... a meer hundred meters from the wall, when the overgrown battlements erupted into a brilliant storm of red blaster bolts. Nine troopers in the lead squads were cut down instantly, their armor torn to pieces by the sheer volume of fire that had engulfed us. Screaming for my men to take cover I threw myself behind a rock and turned to watch the carnage unfold. Another six troopers fell victim to the Trandoshan's fire while the rest disengaged and found cover behind rocks, small trees, shrubs and the bodies of the fallen. A tree which two troopers sheltered behind was cut in half by a concentrated volley of blaster fire, the two troopers were eviscerated by the red plasma. If we stayed here any longer the Detachment would be destroyed, tearing my gaze away from my dyeing men I peered out from behind my cover and searched for a blind spot in the Trandoshan's kill zone. As soon as I Identified one in the shadow of a crumbling tower I burst from cover without any hesitation using my jetpack to launch myself parallel to the ground towards the wall moving to fast for the Trandoshans to hit. The distance closed rapidly, I barely managed to rotate my thrusters in time to slow my approach enough that my legs wouldn't disintegrate from the impact the wall. Kicking upwards I virtually ran up the wall as sped upwards I pulled two thermal detonators from my belt and primed each. Five seconds... four... three... two... one.. suddenly the all ended and I was staring into the surprised faces of a squad of Trandoshans, I nailed the closest one in the nose with the first thermal detonator the impact knocking him down and tossed the second one towards a pile of crates, containing what I assumed to be blaster batteries. Gunning it I accelerated upwards before the Trandoshans could react, below me the entire top of the wall erupted into a massive fireball, turns out I was right about the crates. Knowing Lucky, my second in command would organize what remained of the Detachment I took off towards the temple scanning the courtyards for my prey. There he was just outside the eastern gate butchering a squad of clones, I took up a position on top of a ruined tower and zeroed in on the massive beast below. The Trandoshan was larger than most clad in several pelts and black armor, in one hand he held a crimson lightsaber and in the other a struggling clone trooper. With my target centered in my crosshairs I held my breath a slowly squeezed the trigger of my DC-15x sniper rifle. The blue bolt left the barrel of my weapon with a soft thump an raced towards its target hitting the lizard in the neck just below the head, a miss, but a killing blow none the less... the only problem being he didn't die or appear phased by the blast at all. Dropping the clone he turned and stared right at me, cursing I took to the air barely dodging the crimson blade which exploded through the tower behind me. Normally a shot like that would have taken any other creatures head from it's shoulders, but it hadn't, kriffing Sith. I had one option left, but I would have to get close, soaring downwards I rapidly closed the gap between me and the hulking Trandoshan, once I was sure the distance between us would make missing impossible I began to overcharge my rifle, pouring every ounce of energy from the blaster's battery into one round and fired. The force of the blast immediately melted the barrel of my rifle and knocked me from the sky I hit the ground hard, but alive. Rolling over I tossed my now useless rifle away and drew my pistol ready to engage this beast if it had not died from my pervious attack. On the ground in front of me lay the Trandoshans hulking form a neat smoking half circle took up most of it's upper body the lizards head was gone, evaporated along with most of his torso...
Keying my commlink I gave the all clear, target eliminated."
END LOG
Wow that was a mouthful, believe it or not I had a longer one, but my computer decided to spare you guys from it and deleted it twice...
It's good to be building again, I've been busy with work and putting together 40k miniatures, but I'm hoping to make more time for lego again because man this build and log were a ton of fun!
Also first time using my new camera, still haven't figured it out quite yet and not gonna lie kind of like my old one more, don't get me wrong the photo is amazing, it's just a little bright and AI couldn't figure out for the life of me how to tone it down.
Welp here's a cookie for all those who made it this far and read everything, you guys deserve a medal.
As always thanks for viewing and have a good one!

This Dusky grouse hen froze on the side of the road as I travelled by. This survival strategy works when the predator doesn't have a projectile to make you part of dinner that evening. The Dusky Grouse was split from the Sooty grouse of the western rain forests which used to make up the Blue Grouse species with this grouse being slightly less gray and lighter overall. I have only seen dusky and sooty grouse in the mountains with this being no exception living along Fording River in the Rocky Mountain range.

The BAC 98 is the forerunner in quick strike armour technology. Equipped with a Deuterium 3 Hydrogen engine, it is able charge at a stunning 145 kph. The BAC 98 sacrifices significant amounts of armour to accomplish this, but it's effective defence against explosive and impact projectiles is greatly augmented by two HOVER experimental support drones, which are equipped with high intensity Cesium ion lasers and advanced targeting systems. These armaments allow the drones to target most fast moving projectiles and disintegrate or disorient them to the point of neutralization. The BAC 98 features two docking stations to charge the drones for prolonged missions.
Despite being reduced, the protienaceous armour of the BAC 98 still provides substantial protection for the vehicle, and an additional cation hardened grill on the fore end enhances it's ability to blitz through debris and light cover.
The BAC 98 has a utilitarian cabin that can fit three operators, although two is the recommended safety capacity. HUD link controls allow the pilots to control all operations and switch tasks with fluid speed. These tasks are assisted by a robust AI that can take over certain operations.
These functions include the targeting, reloading, and firing of the main neutron mass cannon, the two classic electronic .50 calibre HMGs, and the six programmable grenade launchers, which can be loaded with a variety of lethal and tactical ordinances.
Comments and critiques please! also, I believe somebody wanted the colour codes, the main colour is 5a3a3b, if you want all the shading codes ask and you shall receive.
So a few of you know I go to a votech school every other day. With the year drawing to a close, we get to basically make what we want. Today I attempted an artillery shell, closely resembling a MAAWS shell (the red projectile). It weighs about 4 pounds and is made of stainless steel. The lines were cut with a 45° angle tool bit and the cone was likely the most annoying part of this piece to make. I did not however have time to file or sand it today but the finish is ok.
Thanks for reading y'all.
The Stinger's primary function is a projectile-based machine-gun, throwing out a steady and fairly accurate stream of blue tarydium crystal shards. It can also throw out a half a dozen shards in one wide-angle spread shot, doing medium damage at close range; unfortunately, this shot causes a significant delay before the weapon can be fired again.

ZSU-44 "Zamolchi" (Shut Up) SPAAG
-------------------
The ZSU-44 is a SPAAG designed to destroy both air units and infantry units alike.
It employs a quad 20mm autocannon, and IGLA SAMs on either side of the turret.
It can be loaded with AP ammunition of needed. It features an armour featured on UT tanks:
The first tier is the composite armour. It consists of basic armour shell with an insert of alternating layers of aluminum and plastics and a controlled deformation section.
The second tier is the Kontakt-5 ERA (explosive reactive armor). It severely reduces the blow from kinetic projectiles. They are in the form of blocks on the turret and body or as ERA plates underneath steel outer covering. It results in much better protection than simple steel armour as featured on many other non-UT tanks.
The third tier is a Shtora countermeasures suite. This system includes two IR "dazzlers" on the front/top of the turret in the shape of blocks, four Laser warning receivers, two 3D6 aerosol grenade discharging systems and a computerized control system.

A shuttlecock is a high-drag projectile used in the sport of badminton. It has an open conical shape: the cone is formed from sixteen overlapping goose feathers embedded into a rounded cork base. The cork is covered with thin leather. The shuttlecock's shape makes it extremely aerodynamically stable. Regardless of initial orientation, it will turn to fly cork first, and remain in the cork-first orientation. The name shuttlecock is frequently shortened to shuttle; a shuttlecock may also be known as a bird or birdie. The abbreviation cock is rarely used except in a jocular sense, due to its vulgar connotations. The "shuttle" part of the name was probably derived from its back-and-forth motion during the game, resembling the shuttle of a loom; the "cock" part of the name was probably derived from the resemblance of the feathers
A trebuchet is a type of catapult that was used as a siege engine in the Middle Ages. The counterweight trebuchet appeared in both Christian and Muslim lands around the Mediterranean in the 12th century. It could fling projectiles weighing up to 350 pounds at or into enemy fortifications. Its use continued into the 15th century, well after the introduction of gunpowder. Seems like they need to turn 90 degrees!
Ammunition is gunpowder and artillery, or broadly anything that can be used in combat including bombs, missiles, warheads, landmines, naval mines, and anti-personnel mines. The word comes from the French la munition which is all material used for war. The collective term for all types of ammunition is munitions.
The purpose of ammunition is to project force against a selected target. However, the nature of ammunition use also includes delivery or combat supporting munitions such as pyrotechnic or incendiary compounds. Since the design of the cartridge, the meaning has been transferred to the assembly of a projectile and its propellant in a single package.
Ammunition involves the application of fire to targets, general use of weapons by personnel, explosives and propellants, cartridge systems, high explosive projectiles (HE), warheads, shaped charge forms of attack on armour and aircraft, carrier projectiles, fuzes, mortar ammunition, small arms ammunition, grenades, mines, pyrotechnics, improved conventional munitions, and terminally guided munition.
The Tempest was designed to take down the large elephant type creatures. It fires a large, guided projectile that is capable of being directed by the mounted camera/computer system. The long-range camera is mounted on the bottom rail. The monitor is mounted on the left side (similar to the heartbeat sensor in MW2). The camera/monitor combo and the long barrel allows the creatures to be attacked from a long distance accurately to limit danger to the operator while being bullpup keeps it relatively short. There are also fiber-optic backup iron sights for close quarter engagements in an emergency.

Found in every continental U.S. state (as well as throughout Central and South America!), it would be difficult for someone to argue against the rugged good looks of the Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura). The George Clooney of the raptor world, this bird is a powerful hunter...of already dead prey. It's highly-tuned eyesight and nose allow it to find deceased animals from up to a mile away. Its keen nose has evolved to pick up malodors on the forest floor while it glides above the canopy. This powerful sense of smell is unique in the bird world--it is even unique among vultures.
Oh, and why is his head bald? So that bits of dead meat can't stick to his face.
Oh, and how does he defend himself from a would-be predator? By projectile vomiting powerful stomach acids at it.

Interesting Facts About Galileo Galilei
Galileo dropped out of university.
Initially, his father sent him to the University of Pisa to study medicine, but Galileo became interested in mathematics and left the university without a degree.
Galileo’s middle finger is on display in a museum.
Around a century after the scientist’s burial, the middle finger of his right hand was removed from his corpse and has been housed at various museums in Italy since then.
Galileo spent his final years under house arrest.
Galileo’s support for heliocentrism put him in direct conflict with the Catholic Church. As punishment, he was first sentenced to life imprisonment and then to house arrest.
The Vatican didn’t admit Galileo was right until just recently.
Only in 1992, Pope John Paul II officially declared that Galileo Galilei was right in his support of heliocentrism and that the Inquisition had made a mistake in imprisoning him.
Four years before death, Galileo became totally blind
Contrary to popular belief, Galileo’s blindness wasn’t caused by his observations of the Sun. Most likely, the cause was a cataract or glaucoma.
Galileo's Breakthrough Observations in Astronomy
Galileo Galilei revolutionized astronomy with his groundbreaking observations of the celestial bodies using a modified telescope. Most of them were published in his book "Sidereus Nuncius" in March 1610.

Galileo Galilei discovered four of Jupiter's moons in 1610. He made observations of Jupiter and its moons over several nights and found that Jupiter was accompanied by four small celestial bodies that orbited around it. This discovery was a breakthrough in the scientific understanding of the Solar System, showing that planets can have their moons. The moons, now known as the Galilean moons, are among the largest in the Solar System. If you have the Sky Tonight app, you can see the current position of the Galilean moons by simply zooming in on Jupiter.
The stars of the Milky Way
Galileo Galilei made a seminal contribution to the understanding of the Milky Way. Before his observations, the Milky Way was generally considered a cloudy band across the sky. Still, Galileo was the first to recognize it as a collection of countless individual stars.
Sunspots
Sunspots are dark areas on the surface of the Sun. Before Galileo's discovery, they were not widely known or studied. Galileo used a telescope to observe the Sun and found it had dark spots on its surface, which he recorded in a series of drawings. This was a major discovery at the time, as the prevailing view was that the Sun was an unchanging object. Galileo's observation of sunspots proved that the Sun was not a perfect celestial body but was subject to change and imperfections.
Lunar librations
Galileo Galilei studied lunar librations, small oscillations in the Moon's apparent position, and was the first to understand the cause of these movements. He observed the Moon with a telescope and made detailed drawings, including its librations, which he recognized were due to the changing perspective from Earth and the orientation of the Moon's surface. Galileo's discoveries advanced our understanding of the Moon and its movement, supporting the heliocentric model of the solar system.

Galileo’s achievements outside astronomy
Galileo Galilei was a renowned astronomer and also a prolific inventor and scientist. Throughout his life, he made numerous contributions to various fields, including physics, mathematics, engineering, and philosophy.
The law of falling bodies
The law of falling bodies, also known as Galileo's law of free fall, states that all objects fall at the same rate, regardless of their mass, as long as air resistance is negligible. He dropped objects of different masses from the Leaning Tower of Pisa and showed that they hit the ground at the same time, disproving the prevailing Aristotelian belief that heavier objects fall faster than lighter ones. The Law of Falling Bodies was a significant step forward in the development of the scientific understanding of motion. It helped lay the foundation for the laws of motion developed later by Sir Isaac Newton.
The basic principles of pendulum
The basic principle of pendulum motion, also known as Galileo's law of pendulum, states that a pendulum will swing back and forth in a regular, repeating pattern, with the time it takes to complete one cycle, or period, being dependent only on the length of the pendulum and the acceleration due to gravity. This discovery laid the foundation for the development of accurate timekeeping devices such as clocks. In addition, it led to a deeper understanding of the laws of motion and the behavior of oscillating systems.
The theory of parabolic trajectories
Galileo Galilei's theory of parabolic trajectories, also known as his law of projectiles, states that a projectile's path under gravity is a parabolic curve. He showed that a projectile's horizontal and vertical motion can be described separately and that its trajectory is a parabolic curve. This was a crucial step in understanding motion and paved the way for Sir Isaac Newton's laws of motion. Galileo's theory remains essential in explaining the motion of projectiles, including objects in satellite orbits, sports projectiles, and missiles.
What didn't Galileo Galilei do?
Galileo Galilei was a man of many talents and achievements, but there were some things he did not do.
Galileo didn't invent the telescope
Galileo made all his famous observations with the help of a telescope he created. He used spyglasses invented in 1608 — low-powered telescopes capable of magnifying objects three times as a prototype. In 1609, after figuring out how spyglasses worked, the scientist built his own improved version that could magnify a normal vision 8 times. As Galileo kept working on his invention, he made a telescope capable of 20x magnification a few years later. Nowadays, amateur astronomers use telescopes with 20x or 30x magnification for planet viewing. Galileo's telescopes were not flawless, as they had a very narrow field of view, making finding objects more difficult. Nevertheless, it didn't stop Galileo from observing.
Galileo didn't discover the laws of gravity
Galileo Galilei is often credited with discovering the laws of gravity, but this is only partially accurate. While Galileo contributed significantly to understanding gravity and its effects, he did not realize the underlying laws governing the force. The concept of gravity can be traced back to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, who believed that objects fall to the Earth because they are naturally attracted to it. However, the work of Sir Isaac Newton in the 17th century led to the laws of gravitation, which describe the universal force of attraction between all masses.
Galileo didn't prove that the Earth rotates
Galileo Galilei is frequently associated with proving that the Earth rotates, but this is also a misnomer. The idea that the Earth rotates on its axis was first proposed by the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras and later developed by Aristarchus in the 3rd century BCE. However, this idea was largely dismissed during the Middle Ages and was not widely accepted until the work of Galileo and other scientists during the Scientific Revolution. Galileo made important observations and experiments that helped support the idea of a rotating Earth, but he did not prove it conclusively. Later, the evidence for a rotating Earth became more solid and widely accepted through the work of other scientists such as Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton.
Galileo didn't say, "And Yet It Moves"
The phrase "And yet it moves" is often attributed to Galileo Galilei as a symbol of his defiance of the Catholic Church's views on the Earth's place in the universe. However, the exact origin of the phrase is unclear, and there is no direct evidence that Galileo ever said it. It is possible that the quote was first attributed to Galileo by later writers who wanted to highlight his bravery in the face of opposition from the Church and other authorities. Regardless of its origin, the phrase has become a popular representation of Galileo's groundbreaking ideas and discoveries and his impact on the history of science.
Examining Galileo's theories: are there any flaws?
While Galileo's ideas were groundbreaking for his time, they were also limited by the scientific understanding and technology available to him. He made many important contributions to the field of science, but some of his ideas were later found to be incorrect.
The theory of tides
Galileo believed that the tides were caused by the sloshing of ocean water back and forth due to the movement of the Earth. However, it was later shown that the tides are caused by the Moon's and Sun's gravitational pull.
The nature of comets
Galileo believed that comets were atmospheric phenomena rather than celestial objects. However, it was later shown that comets are, in fact, small, icy bodies that originate from the outer reaches of the Solar System.
The idea of a perfect vacuum
Galileo believed creating a perfect vacuum, a space devoid of all matter, was possible. However, it was later shown that a perfect vacuum is impossible due to particles, such as electrons and photons, that exist even in empty space.
Galileo's stargazing traditions continue today
Galileo was passionate about stargazing and encouraged others to observe the night sky and explore the universe. He wrote extensively about his observations and discoveries, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for astronomy with others.
It is still possible for amateur stargazers to make astronomical discoveries. With the advancements in technology and accessibility to equipment, hobbyist astronomers can contribute to the field of astronomy in meaningful ways.
One notable example is amateur astronomer, Terry Lovejoy, who has discovered several comets using commercially available equipment.
Another example of a contemporary discoverer is Gennadiy Borisov, who has made significant contributions to astronomy. He discovered the first interstellar comet, 2I/Borisov, originally designated C/2019 Q4 (Borisov), in 2019, demonstrating that comets from other star systems can visit our Solar System. His discovery highlights the role of amateur astronomers in advancing the field despite limited resources.
These examples show that enthusiast stargazers can make meaningful contributions to astronomy, and their passion for stargazing can lead to discoveries.
Galileo’s discoveries: Bottom line:
Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was the first to observe the mountains and craters on the Moon, the phases of Venus, and the four largest moons of Jupiter. He also studied sunspots and proved that the Milky Way was a collection of stars rather than a huge cosmic cloud. For these and many other achievements, he is often called the “father of observational astronomy”. He made many scientific discoveries outside the field of astronomy as well. Want to be like Galileo? Use the Sky Tonight or Star Walk 2 app to locate Jupiter, Venus, and other celestial objects in real time and embark on your own astronomical journey!

Flock behaviour is fascinating. How they manage to synchronise turns or decide on the next action or direction is a mystery. The synchronism is impressive. Here and below, all birds have closed wings at the same time, becoming little projectiles.
When visiting family stationed on Guam back in 2018, I became fascinated with the tragedy that is its history during WWII. Carved bunkers in the hillsides and beaches, projectile impacts all around them. Even the beaches were primarily made up of large chunks of wave rolled coral, dislodged from the bottom during the bombardment and liberation by American forces in July of 1944.
The large coral chunks often made it difficult to see the very small hermit, and in this case, a Ghost crab mingled in amongst the coral.
If it were remotely possible to read a facial expression on a crab, I’m sure this one is saying “Please don’t step on me you big buffoon!”

There is no better reminder to go have a check-up than seeing a vulture staring down at you in anticipation. Gulp!
Vultures when threatened, use projectile vomiting as a defense mechanism. Not kidding, and we should expect no less. Mercifully, this one wasn't apparently threatened.

Mesa Verde National Park is a National Park and World Heritage Site located in Montezuma County, Colorado. It protects some of the best preserved Ancestral Puebloan archeological sites in the United States.
The park was created by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. It occupies 52,485 acres (21,240 ha) near the Four Corners region of the American Southwest, and with more than 4,300 sites, including 600 cliff dwellings, it is the largest archeological preserve in the US.
They built the mesa's first pueblos sometime after 650, and by the end of the 12th century they began to construct the massive cliff dwellings for which the park is best known. By 1285, following a period of social and environmental instability driven by a series of severe and prolonged droughts, they abandoned the area and moved south to locations in Arizona and New Mexico, including Rio Chama, Pajarito Plateau, and Santa Fe.
This is what happens when I can't think of what to do with a challenge image. I started by going through some of my old DUC images to see if I could come up with any ideas and settled on my DUC 614 image to use for the background for this Down Under Challenge 879 image. Then I converted Gillian Everett's whale (see his challenge image in the 1st comment below) into an RPP (rocket propelled projectile), and for whatever it's worth, this is the result ~~~ a jet fighter, a blimp, and a great big bullet having a race... Yeah, I know, but c'mon, I'm 80 years old - gimme a break...

The NAFC HL-60 is a powerhouse of industrial, military and civilian operations. Most models are equipped with a clamp compatible with any standard shipping crate or "sea can". While industrial and civilian models are often interchangeable, military models come equipped without any windows and more advanced equipment. These models feature a network of sensors and a neural interface to effectively turn the pilot and aircraft into a single entity. Giving the pilot a sense of being the aircraft than simply flying it. This also has the advantage of a sturdier fuselage and more protection from projectiles. Other than that, all models are equipped with twin high output electric motors and large battery banks throughout the central part of the fuselage. The intakes are reminiscent of fuel burning aircraft but are simply for cooling. All in all, this is an extremely reliable and common aircraft that often falls into the background for most people. Save for the occasional aircraft enthusiast or logistics operator. Just a machine that keeps things going.
This model was a lot of fun to design. It started with the agricultural livery (the white, green, orange, and blue scheme). That version was basically 100% done before I designed the police/military version. The agricultural version was meant to be a break from my darker builds. But I thought the idea of a vehicle being used basically everywhere in my universe would be cool enough to put in the extra effort. And I gotta say, I love how these two look together. The construction is fairly simple. No real out there techniques. Just a lot of SNOT to create the shaping. Still, very happy with how they turned out.

And of course especially here!
The extensive flat area on the inland side of the castle, now covered in lawn (with "Keep Off" signs!) has probably served several purposes over the centuries. In earlier times there would probably have been a 'castleton' here, as well as space for mustering troops. As the range of projectile firing weapons increased, the area closest to the castle walls would have needed to be cleared, to provide clear fields of fire for defenders on the walls to pick off attackers and deny those attackers places to conceal themselves while picking off the defenders! However once Urquhart effectively evolved from Royal fortress to Grant Tower-house in the 17th century, it is likely that gardens and orchards were planted here.
The main firepower was two Vickers-Armstrong, 38.1/45 cm (15 inches) coastal guns. These guns had enough power to fire a projectile of almost a ton over 35 kilometres.

The Clumsy Creature is back! After the recent Kylo Ren oriented parody images I wanted to get back to the classics.

This is of course a parody so no real intended toward characters, creators of characters etc, etc..

It works! :D
A little bit differently than described on BB. I cheated a bit and used a windlass crossbow mechanism instead of a ballista one, as the rope wouldn't unwind fast enough and would slow the projectile.
It GENERALLY works, even through that creaking is scary, and usually does not blow up.
I tried to do away with some of the ornateness that was prevalent in my older designs. This weapon would be something that is more common, less unique. If fires a heavy brass projectile with compressed steam. A group of these rifles would be hung on a rack, with corresponding valves to charge the steam reserves.
