ADULT AND CHICK, nesting on chalk ledges and caves in Kent, Both are voicing warning sounds to birds to stay away, while the other parent is out fishing. INTERESTING POINT, the Fulmar is capable of regurgitating its oily and smelly contents in projectile fashion over an intruder if alarmed.

THANK YOU for your friendship, enjoy the weekend, hope you get many photo opportunities, as far as birding is concerned it is very quiet in Kent, which is normal for this time of the year. Stay safe, God bless.......................Tomx.

The Cornfield Range is located at Vliehors on the island of Vlieland in the northwestern part of the country. The range is used for air gunnery, unguided rockets and bombing practise with both practise and live ammunitions, the only one in the Netherlands where this is possible. ( and still, I think it is a shame in this beautiful nature area) .
Live bombing is restricted to the period between 15 September and 28 February.
On 4 November 2013 the control tower of the Cornfield NATO aircraft gunnery range on Vlieland, the Netherlands got accidentally hit by about 17 projectiles during an air-to-ground strafing exercise by a F-16
The two occupants of the tower got away unharmed.

This pair of Fulmar seen on a nesting colony on Lunga (near Mull) were performing a noisy greeting ceremony which included excited head waving and conversational cackles and chuckles interspersed with gutteral crooning purrs. Fulmars mate for life and return to the same breeding site each year protecting it against intruders with projectile vomiting. This sticky stomach oil can be deadly on predatory birds as it water logs their feathers.
Thank you all for your kind responses.
The ruins of the castle are what remains of the one that was built in the 9th century on the remains of an old fort. The 9th century fortification was maintained until 1073, the year in which it was razed to the ground by Gonzalo de Moscoso, son of a certain Beremundo. After this, its reconstruction was made difficult by the prohibition ordered by King Fernando II in 1180 to build new fortresses in the "Land of Santiago" without the express authorization of the Archbishop of Compostela. It belonged to the Moscoso family from the fifteenth century onwards.
It was again demolished by the Irmandiños in the 15th century (1431-1469), during the revolt and rebuilt in 1471. Curiously, the new walls were already adapted to withstand the impact of gunpowder projectiles. Later it was besieged in 1471, by the troops of the Archbishop of Santiago, under the command of his own brother Luis de Acevedo, without much luck. Since 1480 the castle was inhabited by the 1st Count of Altamira Lope Sánchez de Ulloa y Moscoso Due to his possession he was spared the Battle of Altamira.

Like every Libeskind building, this one is a shock at first. As a military city, the Albertstadt is entirely designed for symmetry and axiality. If you now turn from Stauffenbergallee into Hans-Oster-Straße, you walk towards the centre of the columned entrance to the classicist old building. But on the left, between the risalites, this five-storey-high metal wedge protrudes, emphatically asymmetrical, crooked, metallic - like a projectile or, better still, a ship's prow that was pushed into the building and got stuck there. Maybe that's why Libeskind's office likes to quote the weight of the steel structure: A 140-tonne truck has thus crashed into the old building and is intended to express the museum's theme in a powerful and violent architectural gesture: a symbol of the ordered violence that war represents (see BauNetz report on the topping-out ceremony in 2008). This new building is not an extension - it has declared war on the old building.

One of my artworks showed at EMERGENT Art Gallery, the beautiful gallery of Ilyra Chardin. The series was made in collaboration with my partner Eli Medier that made my works talk through his poems. In this poem he played with the short word "so" and its different meaning in different languages (Italian, English, Spanish and French):
"So
d'ombre
d'umidi recessi
notturni
di tuoni lontani
e di giorni persi
So
your destiny
was a bomb
falling from the sky
straight on your lives
miserable and unwise
So
tenía un cinturón
se hizo estallar
entre la gente
borró nuestras vidas
por accidente
So
c'était son surnom
cheveux yeux coulants
un projectile lui traversa
le coeur en s'emportant
pour toujours sa splendeur"
"I know
of shadows
of damp nocturnal
recesses
of distant thunder
and lost days
So
your destiny
was a bomb
falling from the sky
straight on your lives
miserable and unwise
Under
he had a belt
blew himself up
among the people
canceled our lives
by accident
So
was her nickname
flowing eyes hair
a bullet went through
her heart taking forever
away her splendor"

The bow and arrow is a ranged weapon system consisting of an elastic launching device (bow) and long-shafted projectiles (arrows).
Archery is the art, practice, or skill of using bows to shoot arrows.
A person who shoots arrows with a bow is called a bowman or an archer. Someone who makes bows is known as a bowyer, one who makes arrows is a fletcher, and one who manufactures metal arrowheads is an arrowsmith.
Humans used bows and arrows for hunting and aggression long before recorded history, and the practice was common to many prehistoric cultures. They were important weapons of war from ancient history until the early modern period, where they were rendered increasingly obsolete by the development of the more powerful and accurate firearms, and were eventually dropped from warfare. Today, bows and arrows are mostly used for hunting and sports.

Sous les pavés la plage.
A popular protest slogan at May 1968 protests in France, "Sous les pavés, la plage!" refers to the sand found under paving stones ripped up by rioters to use as projectiles aimed at the police.

Colorium, Düsseldorf Medienhafen, Architect: William „Will“ Allen Alsop
--- The standout feature in architecture at the Medienhafen is the colorful façade and the red technical projectile, which currently crowns the second highest construction in the harbor at 62 meters. More than 2200 color-printed glass panels made of thermal insulating glass were installed by the architects to exact specifications and, in combination with an internal sunscreen, form the curtain wall. When splitting the color surfaces, areas that are completely colored alternate with patterns of up to four colors. The color design also continues inside the building.
RELATIVE of the shearwaters and petrels family. Easily distinguished from gulls at close range by its tube nostrils and, in flight, by its stiffly held wings and effortless gliding action, Generally sociable and nests in colonies on sea cliffs, Typically indifferent to the presence of human observers, although capable of regurgitating its oily and smelly crop contents in projectile fashion over an intruder if alarmed. See at Skokholm Isaland, but we are vert lucky to have them in the South-East of Kent as well.

"Did you know, when stars die they'll explode in a supernova? Small stars will turn into Neutron stars, however, big ones -", he pauses and gently opens his hand. Dust collects on it's center in a whirling cloud. Small pebbles lift off the ground as they get attracted to his palm, shooting through the air towards him like projectiles. "The big ones will turn into black holes. Monstrous objects, with such gravity, that nothing can escape from their inside." Bigger rocks collect around him as the field around him grows stronger. Even the floor seems to vibrate as his feet slowly lift off the ground and he starts to float.
"Not even light.", he continues as his environment starts to bend around the gravity center. "Thus, nobody can see beyond. Nobody knows what's inside. All they will see is a black spot in the universe - almost invisible."
A soft smile curls his lips while he's surrounded by an unstoppable storm of gravitation. Suddenly, with a loud crack, the ground breaks open like a frail eggshell.
"At the same time.", he speaks, "they have immense power. They will destroy everything within their way."
The gravity center on his palm increases and grows as more materials gets sucked into it, slowly increasing it's mass while they get pressed together tighter and tighter with such force that it barely endurable. Suddenly a light starts to spread from within, shining brighter than anything he'd seen before.
"At the same time.", he whispers, "they have the power to create and bring life."

This mountains represent the west border of the meteoritic crater of Charlevoix.
The Charlevoix impact structure is a large eroded meteorite impact structure in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, Canada. Only part of the impact structure is exposed at the surface, the rest lying beneath the Saint Lawrence River.
Description
The original impact structure is estimated to have been 54 kilometres (34 mi) in diameter and the age of the impact is estimated to be 450 ± 20 million years (Ordovician to Silurian age).[1] The projectile was probably a stony asteroid, at least 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) in diameter, and weighing an estimated 15 billion tonnes (17 billion short tons). The Mont des Éboulements, situated in the exact centre of the impact structure, is interpreted as the central uplift, a consequence of elastic rebound. The impact structure is classified as a multi-ringed basin with a central uplift.
The impact origin of Charlevoix impact structure was first realized in 1965 after the discovery of many shatter cones in the area. Other evidence for impact includes planar deformation features (PDFs) in quartz and feldspar grains.
In contrast to the surrounding craggy Laurentian Mountains, the impact structure is relatively smooth and flat, which has facilitated human settlement. Today, 90% of the people of Charlevoix live within this impact structure.

The Romanesque monastery of Sant Miquel de Fluvià is not very well known, but quite interesting. It was founded in 1045, although the church dates from 1066. It was a dependency of St. Miquel de Cuixà abbey, and towards the s. XVII, of St. Peter of Galligans abbey. It continued as a monastery until 1835.
The magnificent Romanesque church and bell tower are the main remains of the abbey, fortified much later, in the XV Century. As part of the fortification, a moat was dug around the church, splitting and destroying the Romanesque cloister. Currently, both the cloister and its destructive moat have been excavated and partially restored. The bell tower shows what appear to be impacts from siege projectiles at the top, so it does seem to have served as a fortification, perhaps during the Catalan Civil War.
There are two phenomena in California's Central Valley I look forward to each year: the arrival of Sandhill Cranes, followed closely by Snow, Ross's and White Fronted Geese. To be caught in a "snow globe" of thousands of geese or cranes, enveloped by their calls and the whirr of their wing beats, is, to me, a spiritual experience. And, before you ask... no, I've never been hit by a... um... projectile, but there is always a first time. Being there is worth the chance.
A shuttlecock is a high-drag projectile used in the sport of badminton. It has an open conical shape: the cone is formed from sixteen overlapping goose feathers embedded into a rounded cork base. The cork is covered with thin leather. The shuttlecock's shape makes it extremely aerodynamically stable. Regardless of initial orientation, it will turn to fly cork first, and remain in the cork-first orientation. The name shuttlecock is frequently shortened to shuttle; a shuttlecock may also be known as a bird or birdie. The abbreviation cock is rarely used except in a jocular sense, due to its vulgar connotations. The "shuttle" part of the name was probably derived from its back-and-forth motion during the game, resembling the shuttle of a loom; the "cock" part of the name was probably derived from the resemblance of the feathers

Obviously not the osprey you would expect in my stream. This is the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey. The osprey was "designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft" at $78,000,000 each. A most impressive experience seeing four osprey up close. They are extremely loud and as you can see, it stirs up the earth. What you can't see are pebbles and rocks becoming dangerous projectiles.

This is (believe it or not) right in the middle of the Melbourne Central - a large shopping centre and office hub refurbished in 2005 in the heart of Melbourne, Australia. Underneath the shopping centre's massive glass cone sits the Shot Tower which was built on the site in 1888. After last being used in 1961, the tower was retained to become a focal-point of the centre.
The Shot Tower was built to produce shot balls by freefall of molten lead, which is then caught in a water basin. The shot was used for projectiles in weapons.
The tower is a favourite haunt for photographers when in Melbourne

4 in one day is too much, but I had to get these uploaded before my memory became too hazy to describe the conditions. The weather in Iceland tends to suck most of the time, and not just suck like a persistent overcast, but an industrial strength suck, Hoover Deluxe in a power surge, as in you can barely stand against the wind and blinding projectile black sand grains are shooting at your face like bullets. That afternoon the wind was in full force but these images give an impression of calm, as if you can just put a chair on the beach and sip margaritas.... wrong, I was nearly swept out to sea by a rogue wave and got wet up to my thighs. I'm aware there are people in some of the frames, I know who they are so will not clone them out.
Was on a hike few weeks back on an old trail that could be seen from Google Earth quite well, but in reality quite broken up from age. Was quite certain it was Native American. Walking on one of the more pronounce section I saw this beautiful quartz Elko Projectile Point for an Atlatl Dart lying in the middle of the trail. Took a picture of it where it layed.
Elko points are dated at 3500-1400 B.P.
Sorry wont be give out directions or locality, except Imperial County Ca.

∎ If we break a lance for someone, it means nothing more than that we support that person and stand up for them. The expression comes from the Middle Ages, when knights regularly competed against each other in tournaments to find out who was the strongest and bravest among them. One discipline of these competitions was the so-called joust, the fight with the lance.
Originally, people used these spear-shaped poles as projectiles, but later they were converted into stabbing weapons that were used in tournaments and broke during the fight. In the medieval imagination, knights did not fight for themselves, but for others - this could be a nobleman or a woman they wanted to impress. So they broke their lance in honor of these people.
In addition, the duel with the lance was considered a legal means of settling disputes. If two people did not agree on something, they could decide in battle who was right. However, the two quarrelers did not necessarily have to fight each other; they could also choose members of their families to break the lance for them.
Regardless of whether the breaking of the lance resulted from a legal dispute or a fight for honor - today we only break it literally. And that is precisely when we stand up for another person with determination.

Dagmar bumpers (also known as "bullet bumpers") is a slang term for chrome conical-shaped bumper guards that began to appear on the front bumper/grille assemblies of certain American automobiles following World War II. They reached their peak in the mid-1950s.
The term evokes the prominent bosom of Dagmar, a buxom early-1950s television personality featuring low-cut gowns and conical bra cups. She was amused by the tribute.
As originally conceived by Harley Earl, GM Vice President of Design, the conical bumper guards would mimic artillery shells. Placed inboard of the headlights on front bumpers of Cadillacs, they were intended to both convey the image of a speeding projectile and protect vehicles' front ends in collisions. The similarity of these features to the then popular bullet bra as epitomized by buxom television personality Dagmar was inescapable.
As the 1950s wore on and American automakers' use of chrome grew more flamboyant, they grew more pronounced. The black rubber tips they gained on the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham and other models were known as pasties.
Postwar Cadillacs began sporting conical bumper guards in the 1946 model year. In 1951 models, some were raised into the grille. In 1957, black rubber tips appeared. The element continued to become more pronounced in size through 1958, but were eliminated in the 1959 Cadillac redesign.
Mercury sported Dagmars in 1953 through the 1956 model year. Lincoln added Dagmars in 1960, with a black rubber ring separating the body from the chrome tip.
Buick added Dagmars on its 1954 and 1955 models, in 1954 as part of the bumper assembly, and moved into the grille in 1955.
Packard included large Dagmars on the bumper in 1955 and 1956 models.
Full-sized Chevys in 1961 and 1963 also had small rubber Dagmars on the front bumper, and 1962 Ford Galaxie had small rubber Dagmars as an option.

Around four hours before the kick-off of the Europa League match Austria Wien vs Fenerbahçe Istanbul at Reumannplatz . Austria Wien has been playing its home matches in a stadium located in Favoriten, Vienna's 10th district, since 1973.
Later, the square filled up more and more with Fenerbahçe fans, and a larger police contingent also appeared. But the Turkish football fans were extremely peaceful, the atmosphere was very relaxed, and several police officers took advantage of the time to have a leisurely snack.
During the match, the Fenerbahçe goalkeeper was hit by a projectile coming from the Austria fan block, a drumstick, but he continued to play after a short treatment break. Had he not been able to continue playing, the match would probably have been terminated.
The match ended with a 2-0 victory for the Turkish team. After the match, according to the daily press today, there were clashes. A group of Austria supporters attacked a group of Fenerbahçe fans right here with wooden and iron bars as well as chairs. Subsequently, according to the authorities, there was a counter-attack. The Vienna police ended the conflict situation with the use of pepper spray.
As peaceful and pleasant as I experienced the Fenerbahçe fans before the match, I can't help but dislike the Austria fans.
Since the fans of local rival Rapid Wien are no better and both teams also play lousy football, I can only remain a fan of FC Augsburg, even though I haven't lived in my home town of Augsburg since 2007 and have lived in Vienna since 2009. I have forcibly given up on finding a second football home here.
